120+ YEARS OFDRILLING INNOVATIONIn 1888, Edmund J. Longyear, a miningengineer from the rst graduating class atthe Michigan School of Mines, drilled the rstdiamond core hole in the Mesabi Iron Rangein northern Minnesota. Shortly afterward, heformed a contract diamond drilling company toserve the rapidly growing U.S. iron ore miningand steel industry.

In 1912, the E.J. Longyear (Longyear)Company released its rst price list, whichfeatured 19 drill models with drilling capabilitiesbetween 750 and 5,000 feet. Those drills werepowered mainly by steam engines, which laterwould be replaced by internal combustionengines.

During the following two decades, from 1912to 1932, the company expanded internationallyinto Canada, Cuba, China and Africa.

Today, Boart Longyear offers drill ing services inover 40 countries throughout all regions of theglobe.

The LM30 Modular drill is the smallest drill in theunderground coring drill offering. Its small footprintand lightweight body size makes it ideal for tightsituations and locations where mobility and quicksetup time is important.
