function was chaired by RIET Chairman, Dr Biju.
Ramesh. B Tech graduands of 2018 batch received

in the presence of Dr K. C. Raveendranathan,
Principal, Dr K. Balan, Vice Principal and Heads of
Departments. This occasion was commemorated
with love and blessings of parents, teachers and
friends who helped to fulfil the goal.

TRANSFORMING RIET AS A START-UP
HUB
Over the past years, the START UP ecosystem in
RIET has been maturing. It has started moving
from being student entrepreneurship centre to one
that houses mature start-ups.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell
(IEDC) was established in RIET under the
leadership of Prof. (Dr) K. Balan, Vice Principal.
An Innovation Laboratory was also opened for
students wherein they can develop their ideas into
practical solutions.

STUDENT CHAPTERS OF PROFESSIONAL
BODIES
Student Chapters of various professional bodies
established at RIET during the period are: IEEE,
IGS, and ISTE. The main objective in establishing
the Student Chapters at RIET is to provide a
platform for the students and faculty, where they
can interact with their peer groups in
National/International level to develop professional
skills-matrix which will help them to solve
professional and social problems.

IEEE Student Branch of RIET was inaugurated on
03 November 2018, by the Chief guest

IGS
Student Chapter of Indian Geotechnical Society,
was inaugurated on 13 March 2018 by
Dr G. Venkatappa Rao, Professor Emirtus, IIT
Gandhinagar, Gujarat along with
Dr Venkataraman, President of Indian Chapter of
International Geosynthetic Society, New Delhi in a
function presided over by Principal, Dr Sathikumar.
R. Technical talks were delivered. The Chapter was
established with 124 students and 3 faculty under
the guidance of Dr K. Balan, Vice Principal.

ISTE
The ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education)
is the leading national professional, non-profit
making society for the technical education system
in our country with the motto of career
development of teachers and personality
development of students and overall development
of our technical education system.
ISTE student chapter was inaugurated by Ms Nidhi.
M.B. (Assistant Professor, MBCET, ISTE National
Executive Council Member) on 06 March 2018, in
a function presided over by the Principal,
Dr Sathikumar. R. This student chapter was
established with 354 students as members.

NSS ACTIVITIES OF RIET
Village adoption Programme
Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) is a rural
development programme broadly focusing on the
development in the village which includes social
development, cultural development and spread
motivation among the people on social
mobilization of the village community. RIET was
associated with Kottukal Grama Panchayat,
Neyattinkkara Taluk, Thiruvananthapuram District.
An orientation class at College level was conducted
by the Program Officer Mr Mahesh .A.G.
Orientation class at College Level
NSS coordinators along with the volunteers
resided in Kottukal Grama Panchayath for six
days.Volunteers visited 19 wards of Kottukal
Panchayath and collected the details to study the
problems faced by the villagers. Around 100
applications were filled for Skill Development
program under Prime Minister‟s Kaushal Vikas
Yojana (PMKVY) and Additional Skill Acquisition
Programme (ASAP).

Seven Days Special Camp - Karthavya 2K18
The NSS unit of RIET took the responsibility of
renovating the „Community Health Centre,
Keshavapuram‟. Volunteers actively took part in
repairing the Hospital Equipment‟s and Painting
the buildings

Flood Relief Activities
There has been immense humanitarian response
to the devastating floods from NSS Team RIET.
NSS volunteers along with the ALUMNI of RIET
have taken up the relief and rescue operations on
war-footing basis. They collectively contributed
around 12 Lakh rupees. A flood relief collection
point was set up in RIET by the NSS unit where
they collected items of daily uses like Dry ration,
clothes, soaps, sanitary napkins, medicines of
regular use, milk powder, bleaching powder, hand
wash, sanitizers etc.

The NSS volunteers along with the Alumni
involved in rescue operations, prepared separate
kits out of the collected flood relief items at
collection point, visited flood affected areas and
distributed the kits to the victims. They involved in
sanitising the affected area by taking part in
cleaning process.
B.Tech COMMENCEMENT DAY
The B.Tech commencement day of 2018 was
inaugurated on 02 August by Dr G. Madhavan

The Rajadhani Group of Educational Institutions
signed a letter of acceptance to offer free education
to over 100 students from the state of Mizoram in
Engineering, Hotel Management and Catering
Technology, and MBA programs with the
Honorable Governor of the State,

The two Day intracollege arts festival was
conducted during 11-12 February 2018. It was a
true culmination of music, arts and dance. An
impressive array of literacy and cultural
competitions gives our students the perfect
opportunity to hone their inborn talents, and
discover their untrapped potentials. We were
honoured to have Mr Vijay Babu (film actor &
producer) to felicitate the function.

ITIHA 2K18
ITIHA 2K18 a three day National Level Techno
Cultural fest of RIET commenced on 08 March,
2018. It was the amalgamation of the talent and
resources of the students of six specialised arms of
RIET. ITIHA 2K18 also inducted the workshop on
National Students Space Challenge, organized by
IIT Kharagpur alumni for all disciplines of
engineering.

inspire innovations and a platform to showcase and
hone our technical talents and skills and was well
received by all stakeholders.

Rejoicing the world of rhythm and music ITIHA
2K18 showcased proshows for the first time in
South Kerala with artists from Tomorrowland
Fame, Lost Stories and Teri Miko.

DHEERA 2K18
International Women‟s day was organised under
the title DHEERA on 13 March 2018. It was
inaugurated by Renju Renjimar (Kerala‟s first
celebrity and Bridal transgender make-up artist)
along with Prof O. J. Oleena (M G University) as
the chief guest. Function was presided over by
Principal, Dr.Sathikumar R. A precelebration
program on self-defence was also organized on 06
March 2018.

ADDITIONAL SKILL ACQUISITION
PROGRAM (ASAP) - 2017-18
The Kerala State, by realizing this responsibility,
has embarked on an ambitious project named State
Skill Development Project (SSDP) to equip its
young population with skills in cutting edge sectors
in order to effectively alleviate the unemployment
problem in the state. The project combines both
preventive (ASAP) and curative
approaches (Additional Skill Enhancement
Program-ASEP). On the preventive side, the
General and Higher Education Departments
together will implement the ASAP to
amplify working hands in different sectors of the
economy, by providing additional skill sets to
students along with their regular courses. ASAP
has been developed to impart sector specific skills
among participants to create a labour market ready
work force.

Our college is chosen as the Technical Service
Provider (TSP) for two courses under aegis of
Govt. College, Attingal as Skill Development
Council (SDC), with Dr K. Balan, Vice Principal
acting as TSP co-ordinator. The coordinators for
the CCTV Installation were Mr. Nandu B
(AP/ECE), and Mr. Jibeesh Babu (Instructor/ECE)
and that of Assistant Electrician Course were
Mr Prasanth.R (AP/EEE) and Mr.Satheesh Kumar
(Instructor/EEE).
PRADHAN MANTRI KAUSHAL VIKAS
YOJANA (PMKVY) – TECHNICAL
INSTITUTE
RIET as the main Training Centre for the PMKVY
courses has got sanction for running two courses
under PMKVY –TI for the academic year 2016-17
(1) Welding Technician Level 3 [Automotive
Sector] (2)Plumber General II [Plumbing Sector]
RIET has successfully completed the courses with
100% result.

In 2017 -18 RIET got sanctioned for more courses
(1) CCTV Technician (2) House Keeping Trainee
(3) Trainee Chef (4) Plumber General (5) Helper
Electrician (6) Food & Beverage Service Trainee.
These courses are conducted utilizing the modern
Labs and workshops with most modern
equipments. Many school/college drop outs
attended the courses and most of them are
employed.
ON JOB TRAINING- VOCATIONAL SKILL
TRAINING
Department of Electronics and Communication
An On Job Training on Digital Electronics and
Computer hardware was conducted by Department
of ECE from during 26 November to 06 December
2018 for VHSS Njekkad, Varkala. The training was
for 12 days. Each one of the 60 students thoroughly
enjoyed the theory and practical sessions, including
a hands-on training in CCTV Installation.

An On Job Training of first year Civil Construction
and Technology students was conducted by
Department of Civil Engineering during 05-24
November 2018 for Mulamana VHSS,
Vamanapuram. Twenty nine students attended both
theory and practical sessions accompanied by three
teachers.

Effective Teaching Learning Process
Faculty development Programme on Effective
Teaching Learning Process was organized in the
campus during 02-06 July 2018.
It was designed to strengthen the skill matrix of the
teaching fraternity by providing adequate
pedagogical and practical knowledge in the class
room management as applicable to technical
education. The five days training program
encompasses pedagogical, psychological and
technological aspects of teaching.

UNDER AEGIS OF ICT ACADEMY OF
KERALA
A 3-day FDP on „Expose the Teachers to XXI
century Teaching and Learning Process‟ was
conducted at RIET, which was organized by ICT
Academy, an organization supported and partnered
by Govt of Kerala.

ICT Academy is basically a social enterprise which
is created in a public private partnership model
(PPP) for imparting ICT skills to the youth of
Kerala and to improve their employability
opportunities. The implementation of the above is
done through guided trainings and interaction
oriented activities.
ORGANIZED BY COMPUTER SCIENCE
DEPARTMENT
The department of Computer Science and
Engineering successfully organised and conducted
a five day FDP on Advances in Machine Learning
and Deep Learning during 17-21 December
2018.The entire program was sponsored by APJ
Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and
well attended by 30 faculty members across the
state. The function was inaugurated by
Mr Varghese.Cherian, Head, Technology Services,
UST Global Trivandrum. Dr K.C.Raveendranathan
acted as the co-ordinator and Prof. Sangeetha Shibu
as centre co-ordinator for the FDP. The sessions

Inaugurated and delivered the keynote speech at Marian Engineering College Meenamkulam,
Kazhakkuttam on 14 Feb 2018, on the occasion of commencing the activities of Electronics and
Communication Engineering Association.
Acted as Publications Chair of International CET Conference on Control, Communication, and
Computing (IC4) held at Central Residency, Thampanoor Trivandrum during 5-7 July 2018. The papers
were uploaded into IEEE Xplore (ISBN 978-1-5386-4966-4/18).
Delivered a plenary talk on "Outcome Based Student Centric Practices in Learning and Teaching Process:
Recent Trends", on 06 July 2018, as part of the FDP on Effective Teaching-Learning Process at Rajadhani

post of Principal, RIET. Dr K. C. Raveendranathan, former Principal,CET and LBSITW, Trivandrum
has assumed the post of Principal w.e.f. 13.07.2018 AN onwards. The entire RIET family wishes them
