I would like to get the tile frames with MWEF handprints repaired and put back upon the campus before the end of the year. This was a fundraiser (about a decade ago)in support of the music program and over the years it has been in disrepair. If anyoneknows of an artist who has knowledge of tile and framing repair, please contact Fran.It would be wonderful to see the colorful student and family handprints back up onthe walls of the MPR by the Redwood Grove in front of the school. Please let meknow of any possible contacts you may have so that this worthy cause can come tofruition this year. THANK YOU!
Library News
The Friends of the Santa Rosa Libraries will be having their Spring Book Faire April 11-14 at the Santa Rosa Vet's MemorialAuditorium. This Friday is their preview day with a $5 admission fee starting at 3:00 p.m.. Sunday is half price day, which means by the inchvalue pricing, and Monday is bag day: load up a bag, pay $5.
Our News: Please help your student be prepared for their assigned Library Day and help them make sure their book is in their backpack, ready toreturn. It's often disappointing for them when they can't check out a new book during their time.
Many thanks,
Denise Cater, Library Paraeducator

PTA News
PTA general meeting Monday, May 14, 6:00-7:30 p.m. in Room 17!
The election is this Monday from 6:00-7:30 p.m. or so. There are a few reasons why we need yourhelp:
1. Sadly our current PTA President Carolyn Gonsalves and Vice President Harmony Cho have to leavetheir positions due to term limits of two years. Their service and commitment are truly appreciated andwe’re in great shape due to their hard work. We want you to fill their shoes.
2. We also need your help because our PTA is so strong and our budget is so big that the PTA havefinanced the salary of the PE Teacher and have run the Walk-A-Thon, the Garden, the Golf Program for6th graders, Parent Education Night, Bingo, Zumba and on and on. We need fresh ideas going forwardon how other programs could benefit our kids.
Thank you to all who sold Cookie Dough! We had a tremendous success and raised money to continue thegarden program year-round and provide other important programs and services for Riebli School!

May 29 Wikiup Picnic
May 30 Promotion Ceremony , 9:00 a.m., MPR
Dear 6th grade parents:
On Thursday, May 29 (only 7 WEEKS AWAY), our tween 6thgraders will take part in the right-of-passage known as the MarkWest District 6th Grade Picnic, taking place at Wikiup Tennis &Swim Club. This year, Riebli is in charge of ALL food for thisdistrict-wide event -- which means that we will be planning, prepping, cooking and serving food/beverages for approximately350 students and volunteers throughout the day, and cleaning upafterward. WE NEED RIEBLI VOLUNTEERS TO GETTHEIR BBQ ON. We have over 100 6th grade parents at Riebli.Unfortunately, we've had underwhelming attendance at any ofthe planning meetings thus far.
The next planning meeting will be a district-wide picnic meetingheld on Monday, April 21 in the San Miguel Staff Room. Pleaseattend this meeting if you are willing and able to volunteerthe day of the event. We will also be having at least one otherRiebli-specific site meeting, TBA. If you can commit to helpmake this a fun day, but are unable to attend a planningmeeting, please email our fearless coordinators Joyce Suzuki [email protected] or Dawn Payne at [email protected] and let them know the hours you can help. Thepicnic is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wikiup.
IMPORTANT: If you have not yet turned in your child'spermission packet and payment (emailed to you by Fran Hansellon February 14) please do so. Another copy of the packet wassent home today. Payment is due by May 16. Cost this year forRiebli students is only $15 per student due to our awesomeback-to-school BBQ fundraiser (the other sites are paying $30per student). WE ROCK!
If we don't start hearing from more parents in the next few weeksabout volunteering, we will be reaching out and begging byphone. Please, don't make it come to that. Forward this email toall your friends...we are missing quite a few email addresses for6th grade parents in the PTA books. We wouldn't want anyone tofeel left out.
It's the home stretch, people. Next stop...middle school...braceyourselves.

A word about awards:Honoring students with awards is one way of acknowledging their hard work and effort. We have done this in various ways this year. At ourweekly assemblies students are honored for being safe, respectful, and responsible. At the end of each trimester we have honored students for theiracademic achievement, effort and attendance.
In the lower grades students are just learning about what it means to be a student and how their effort and attendance effect their achievement. Thegoal of the first and second grade teachers is to be sure everyone gets an award of some kind during the year as an attempt to reinforce thebehaviors that make for a good student. There is a certain amount of subjectivity at this level.
As the grades progress the criteria for academic achievement is established. In third grade you need to have satisfactory effort with all 4s or 5s ontheir report card. In grade four the criteria is no more than two 4s, in grade five the criteria is no more than two 4s and in grade six you need all 5swith the exception of reading fluency and listening and speaking on your report card.
