RIDGEWOOD CAMERA CLUB

The Ridgewood Camera Club (RCC) of Ridgewood, New Jersey, U. S. A, founded in 1937 is

one of the oldest camera clubs in the United States.

The RCC is dedicated to promoting the interest and education of photography by bringing to-

gether people who have a love of photography, where photographers of all levels build friend-

ships, inspire creativity and grow as artists, by fostering artistic and technical development.

The RCC has created an atmosphere of comradery, where members can share knowledge, ex-

periences and their work, regardless of their level of photography, in order to stimulate each

other`s photographic interests.

The RCC meets three Wednesdays a month featuring varying programs, including technical

discussions, competitions, workshops, field trips and more.

For the past thirty seven years, the RCC has sponsored the Ridgewood International Exhibi-

tion of Photography, which brings together photographers from all corners of the world to

share their work.

Due to this years Coronavirus pandemic and circumstances beyond our control, we have cur-

tailed our weekly meetings and switched to online meetings using Zoom. While not ideal, we

are able to continue with our very interesting programs and keep in contact with each other.

Exhibition Chairperson’s Message

The 37th Ridgewood International Exhibition was quite an experience. Our original judging

date was set for March 21, 2020 however, being in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, we

had to make adjustments.

As everyone has learned in the era of Covid-19, doing things in different ways is essential,

and conducting the Ridgewood International was no exception. We originally had thought a

postponement but, in short order, we realized that social distancing would be mandated for

quite some time.

After exploring on-line options we chose to use ZOOM as the platform for judging. It went

very well. Our three judges independently viewed the

images which were being cast from my location, and

two other locations were tabulating and recording the

scores. Six locations, a lot of moving parts - and it

went without a hitch!

All told we had 1,499 images representing 21 countries.

It was a small decline from 2019 but considering world

conditions, we were extremely pleased.

I gratefully extend a BIG THANKS to a great team. First our judges:

We thank them for their expertise and enthusiastic participation. Vinnie Kempf was invalu-

able both leading up to the judging and on the day of image judging. Alex Bahtiarian also

Paulyson, always a calm and steady voice, thanks to him for getting us ZOOM ready, as well

as helping build the slideshow. Finally, thanks to Bill Olson for also helping build the slide-

This year we saw new names on the entrants list as well as many faithful participants who

have entered many of the previous Internationals. We thank you for your continued support

and welcome the new entrants to the Ridgewood International. We hope you’ll be with us for

many more.

Plans will soon be underway for our 38th Ridgewood International to be held in 2021 – hope-

fully in a more traditional setting. Again, thank you for your participation, your support and

for your wonderful images!

A slideshow Exhibition of Accepted images is traditionally shown at our club as well as three

other clubs in Northern New Jersey. This won’t happen this year due to social distancing man-

dates, but the slideshow is posted on the Ridgewood Camera Club’s website (the link is below).

Finally, on a sad note, Marie Kane who chaired the Ridgewood International for many years

passed away last summer after a battle with cancer. Marie was an active PSA member, a key

participant on the Ridgewood Camera Club’s Executive Committee and the driving force be-

hind the International for the club. She is missed by many.

Our Thanks

The Ridgewood Camera Club would like to shout out a loud THANK YOU to the

club members who helped organize and judge this 37th Annual International Ex-

hibition of Photography.

Due to the extraordinary circumstances, caused by the Coronavirus, there were a

lot of changes to the exhibition and the judging. We would like to extend a very

special thank you to our Chairperson, Lynn Ronan, who organized, then re-

organized and finally, successfully produced this years International Exhibition

under very trying conditions.

Unlike prior years, when judging was an event for the RCC, where the members

could come and view the judging, this year everything was done via “Zoom” and

internet connection, with everyone being in their own homes, miles from each

other.

Gladly everything went smoothly albeit a little slower than usual.
