School News Notifier (SNN)SNN is an opt-in news and information service where you control the content you receive. Users can choose from athletics, district-wide news, closings and delays, news from indi-vidual schools or any combination thereof. Visit https://snn.neric.org/bcsd/ for more information and to sign-up. (Additionally, existing SNN registrants may wish to login to their accounts at that page to ensure notification settings reflect their children's current schools.)

School Closings/DelaysOccasionally, it is necessary for schools to be closed or to delay opening because of inclem-ent weather, facilities failure or emergencies. Cancellations, delays or early dismissals are posted on the school district’s website and social media accounts. School closings are also announced on the following local TV and radio stations: Channel 6, Channel 10, Time Warner Cable News, Channel 13, Fox 23, WGY (810 AM), WFLY (92.3 FM), WYJB (95.5 FM), and WRVE (99.5 FM); as well as at www.timesunion.com.

District Website

Have you been to Bethlehem Central’s website lately? Visit our website to access all kinds of informa-tion about district activities, programs and announcements.

BC on Social MediaFollowing us on Twitter (@BethlehemCSD) or becoming a fan on Facebook (www.facebook.com/BethlehemSchools) are other ways district residents can keep up to date on district news.

AspenThe district's student information system, Aspen, will continue to offer parents and students online access to a secure site with personalized information about a student’s academic program and progress, including report cards, bus schedules and academic schedules. In our second year using this system, teachers are continuing to learn its features, which centers on communicating with students and families. Please see www.bethlehemschools.org/aspen for more information on Aspen.

Welcome Back! This calendar can be a terrific resource for your family to help start off the school year right. It lists many of the major school events and activities and is full of helpful information and reminders. The calendar is printed in August, so changes may occur as the year progresses. HOURS OF OPERATION

STAY CONNECTED IN MANY WAYSFor a large portion of the day, you leave your kids in our care. The education of the students in our community is a responsibility we don't take lightly, and is something we know doesn't stop when students leave school. Working together has always been a huge part of our process, so please stay connected!

C E N T R A L S C H O O L D I S T R I C T • 2016 -20 17

A note on school closings/delays: Unless otherwise noted, all scheduled activities at BC schools (including Continuing

Education classes) are canceled on the days school is closed/closes early. When in doubt, please check our website.

Syncing the BC Calendars to your Mobile Device

This calendar is printed in August, so changes may occur as the school year progresses. On the district website, we have comprehensive online calendars (organized by school) that are continuously updated throughout the year. These calendars are powered by Google Calendars and can easily be synced with your computer or mo-bile device. Please see www.bethlehemschools.org/calendar for instructions.

CEEB CodeBethlehem Central High School’s CEEB Code

for SATs, ACTs and FAF tests is #331595.

PhysicalsA physical exam is required for all children

entering the school system for the first time and for all children entering grades K, 2, 4, 7 and 10. Proof of this exam must be a signed

Free & Reduced Price MealsThe district participates in the Federal and State Free and Reduced Price Lunch Program. Students may be eligible for a free or reduced-price lunch if their families meet federal income guidelines. Detailed information, including eligibility criteria, is sent home to the parents of every BC student at the beginning of each year.

Board of Education MeetingsBoard meetings are usually held on the first

and third Wednesdays of each month at the Bethlehem Central High School Library Media Center, 700 Delaware Ave., Delmar, unless otherwise noted.

The district posts video of the most recent BOE meetings on www.bethlehemschools.org/boe/video and meetings are also televised on TV18/Bethlehem on Sundays at 6 p.m.

HolidaysBC recognizes that many religious groups

within our community celebrate different holidays during the year. On occasions when scheduled school activities and observances of religious holidays conflict, district policy is to honor family requests to excuse students.

Visitor PolicyOur visitor policies are designed to ensure

the safety of all staff and students and to mini-mize disruption to the instructional program. At our elementary schools and the Middle School, visitors must use the intercom system outside the main entrance to alert the main office to their presence. They are then, "buzzed" in, and will report directly to the main office to sign in and receive a badge. At the High School, visitors must report to the school monitor posted near the main entrance to sign in and receive a badge. Upon leaving the building, visitors must sign out and return the badge.

Student Directory InformationStudent directory information (defined

as name, grade, school, town of residence, photograph, participation in activities and/or sports, and any honors or awards received) may be released for publicity purposes to the media or other organizations and/or used in district publications or on the district website. Parents/guardians who wish not to release their child’s directory information should notify in writing both the superintendent of schools and their

physician’s physical appraisal form. [A physical exam performed within the 12 months prior to the start of the school year is acceptable. All forms are due by October.] If such an examination is not provided, the school is required by law to provide the exam at the school’s expense. We prefer that parents make appointments to have the family doctor complete the physical as he/she will perform a more complete physical exam and will give the required immunizations. BCSD physical appraisal forms can be found listed on the district website under "Health Services."

APPR RatingsAll parents/guardians will have the right to

obtain APPR ratings and composite effectiveness scores for their child’s teacher(s) and principal(s) once the scores are available in accordance with state law. For additional details, please visit the district website or contact your child’s school.

Transportation SafetyThe district works hard to ensure the safety of its

students, but needs your help. Parents are respon-sible for the safe transport and supervision of their children to, from and at their assigned bus stop.

Although students are not required to wear seat belts on the bus, parents may encourage their children to use them. Also, it is illegal — and dangerous — to pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing.

Senior Citizen passesDistrict residents who are 62 or

older can obtain a senior citizen pass from the Superintendent’s Office (700 Delaware Ave.), which entitles them to free registration in some Continuing Education classes (HILL classes not included) and free or reduced admission to district sporting events and other activities.

School Tax Bills All residents of the Bethlehem Central School District will submit school tax payments via mail or in person at either the Delmar or Glenmont branch of Pioneer Bank. Tax payments can no longer be accepted at the district's Business Of-fice. Payment instructions will be included with individual bills which will be mailed the first week of September. Payment by credit card is also an available option, subject to a convenience fee. Information on tax payments is available on the district website.

Questions about your school tax bill? Residents of both the town of Bethlehem and

the town of New Scotland who have questions about their school tax bills should contact Michelle Curtis at 439-7481, ext. 31922.
