Governor’s Remarks at Opening CeremonyOn Leadership
1 “Leader” usually refers to the man who leads the way or the person who occupies the highest posi on in a hier-
archy, such as a president, a commander-in-chief, a CEO, a captain, a sec on master, etc. In other words, in any
organiza on, large or small, the one who stands in front or sits the highest is the leader, the decision-maker. However,
these are superfi cial defi ni ons. As we know, Den Xiau Pin did’n t serve as the State President of China, but he was un-
disputably the solo highest leader of China during the economical “Change and Open” era of China. On the other hand,
some so called “Poli cal Stars”, “Most Favored Persons”, despite being elected to the highest post, are not necessarily
true leaders. They are, at most, the media-manipulated voter’s favorite sons. By any criteria of judgment, they could
hardly meet the defi ni on of leaders.
2 So, what is the gist of “Leader” or “Leadership”? And, what are the diff erences between “leadership” and “man-
agement”? Are they simply synonyms or of dis nc ve meanings? I will endeavor to highlight some of the essen-
al characteris cs of leadership for discussion as follows:
(1) Vision:
The fundamental dis nc on between a leader and a manager is that a manager is to accomplish his assigned mis-
sion, while a leader is to decide what mission should be accomplished. Management masters Peter Drucker and
Warren Bennis in their book dis nguished the two as: “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the
right thing.” Put in other way, a manager is an effi cient executant; and a leader, though not necessarily an effi cient
3
execu ve, must be a person of far and high vision, based on past history’s teachings, seeing through the situa on
presently existed, and poin ng to the future of the trend of current. In essence, he must be an pioneer of vision.
(2) Inspiring ability:
A leader, whether he be a good guy, a bad guy, a just man or an evil one (for example, no one can deny Hitler or Stalin
were among the greatest leaders in history), must possess an outstanding capability to inspire, mo vate and fi re up
his followers from despera on, insensi veness, frustra on, and defea sm to be awakened and to march into a com-
mon des ny with zeal, faith and driving force. This power, like the phrases “charisma” used by poli cal science and
media, is not capable of being expressively described in words. It is an innate gi , not capable of being cul vated by
trainings. In common parlance, it is metaphorically something like a “cheerleader”
(3) Trust:
A general without trust of his soldiers can never win a ba le. The most precious asset of a leader is the uncondi onal
trust placed on him by his followers, colleagues and subordinates, who are willing to sacrifi ce their bodies, mental
powers, capabili es, monies, mes and all sort of resources for the sake of the ways and objec ves ordained by their
leaders. Conversely speaking, a wise leader must have a grand scale mindset of “not using those about whom you
have doubt, and not having doubt about those whom you use”. Mutual trust ensures the accomplishment of big
enterprises.
(4) Image:
Every leader must be the best image builder by himself. If his image is a make-up packed by PR men or media, such
make-up will not stand for long. A true leader must be a born gi ed image builder, or must be self-trained to be an
able master of image building (such carved image may or may not be revealed by history). A leader a racts followers
by his image. No followers no leader.
(5) Courage:
No leader is a person lacking courage. Many persons who possess other elements of leadership do not become a
leader, because they are so caring about their reputa ons. They lack the courage to stand out in dangerous place
and me. They are not risk-bearing. The tend to be averse to any possible harm or damage. They dare not take
adventures. Some of such person have wisdoms, learnings and originali es, but they do not become leaders.
(6) Strategy:
A leader is not always an effi cient administrator or manager. He may not be good in all details. He needs not to also
have good planning and execu on skills (All are the requisites of staff members and managers). But, he must have a
grandiose strategy for the future and des ny (like Moses in the Exodus or Kon-Min who envisaged the three na ons
strategy in the late Han dynasty). Leaders in the history are not known by their execu ve abili es, rather, they are
respected because of their strategic decision abili es in the grand design and des ny forecast.
3 We must note that a leader may not do the business solo. To say it rudely, the glory of a Marshall is paved above
the dead bodies of thousands of soldiers. Not everything is so ruthless and cruel. Nonetheless, a leader is not a
lonely hero. He is not a God. One of the most salient elements of leadership is “infl uence”, an ability to infl uence his fol-
lowers and to combine these powers to achieve the biggest success. Therefore, team work is a cornerstone impossible
to neglect in the discussion of leadership. Leadership expert John C. Maxwell emphasized the importance of teamwork
in leadership by lis ng six kinds of “compass” which measures the visions of a leader in a team:
(1)A Moral Compass (Look Above):
A moral compass is so important that the great entrepreneur Andrew Carnegie said: “A great business is seldom if
ever built up, except on lines of strictest integrity.” Greed (desire for materials, monies, powers, favorite men or
women, things, etc.), as you may think, is the real driving force. But even in an evil organiza on, there must have a
4
“norm” to keep the organiza on operate. The moral compass therefore means the consistent norm to judge right
from wrong in an organiza on. Without such compass, there will be no right direc on for a leader to lead his team.
(2) An Intui ve Compass (Look Within):
A Compass to self check. The vision of the leader must take root in the heads of his followers. If the team member
lose the vision, the leader will no longer be a leader.
(3) A Historical Compass (Look Behind):
It is most eff ec ve for you to convince someone with past experience. Human nature is afraid of “strangeness”. You
can hardly change a classic music fonder to a rock music fan overright. A leader should be able to connect his present
master plan to the past history and also expand to the future perspec ve.
(4) A Direc onal Compass (Look Ahead):
The most eff ec ve weapon to mo vate people is to give them a “Hope”. The story of “Relieving thirst by imagining
the plum trees ahead ”in the Chinese history of Tsao Chau of the late Han Dynasty is a good example. A leader should
have the ability to fi nd a way-out for his team. The Direc onal Compass is to measure whether he is blind or not in
direc ng the path.
(5) A Strategic Compass (Look Around):
The purpose of strategy is the process to lead the team to the target. A leader should be able to iden fy the re-
sources available and let his staff and managers to formulate plans based on such resources.
(6) A Visionary Compass (Look Beyond):
Lastly, visions are con nuous. “You must have a long-range vision to keep you from being frustrated by short-range
failures” (Quote from Charles Noble).
4 To end this speech, I will tell a fable to illustrate the way to build leadership based on each team member’s diff er-
ent characters and gi s.
Once upon a me, the animals decided they should do something meaningful to meet the problems of
the new world. So they organized a school.
They adopted ac vity curriculum of running, climbing, swimming, and fl ying. To make it easier to admin-
ister, all the animals took all the subjects.
The duck was excellent in swimming. In fact, he was be er than his instructor was! However, he made
only passing grades in fl ying, and was very poor in running. Since he was so slow in running, he had to
drop swimming and stay a er school to prac ce running. This caused his webbed feet to be badly worn
so he became only average in swimming. But “average” was quite acceptable, therefore nobody worried
about it---except the duck.
The rabbit started at the top of his class in running, but developed a nervous twitch in his leg muscles
because he had so much makeup work to do in swimming.
The squirrel was excellent in climbing, but he encountered constant frustra on in fl ying class because his
teacher made him start from the ground up instead of from the treetop down. He developed “charley
horses” from overexer on, so he only got a “C” in climbing and a “D” in running.
The eagle was a problem child and was severely disciplined for being a non-conformist. In climbing
classes, he beat all the others to the top, but insisted on using his own way of ge ng there! (Quote
from Charles Swindoll’s book “Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life”).
5
This story illustrates that a duck is a duck and an eagle is an eagle, each have his strengths and weakness. A wise leader
shall not send a duck to eagle school. If he does, he will send the duck into trouble and be severely frustrated. A great
leader’s job is all about placing people in the right place so they can be successful.
5 As the above quoted fable tells, each one has dis nc ve gi ed asset. He or she should be educated according to
his or her orienta on, and should be placed in the right post (his or her “strength zone”). In this RYLA training,
each of you shall discover and develop your own “strength zone” and fi nd your right posi on, thereby become the leader
in this post. I congratulate each of you for having this opportunity to par cipate in this RYLA camp to cul vate your
leadership and team work knowledge and skill. One day all of you will, I am sure, become a leader in each own jobsite
and workplace. May I wish all of you a very successful career future! Thank you.

Governor’s Closing Remarks What Can We Expect Of Today’s Youth Leaders?
I、 Observa on 2013:Today’s (in fact, in historical perspec ve, every genera on’s) young genera on is either described as “the angry
youth” or called “feeble weeds”. Faced with high unemployment, low wages (22k), social hierarchy distress, rock-
e ng house prices, soaring living costs, unbearable burden of raising children (in par cular, the school bills), and
dim future of economy, coupled with the uncertain na onality iden ty, and lost in the cyber world of 3C widgets,
what future can the young men and girls expect? Or, what can the society expect of this youth genera on? No-
body wants to be an underdog. But the doomed des ny seems so apparent.
You may be apathe cally indiff erent to any social causes, or you are so vulnerable to the social unjus ce and un-
fairness and are easily provoked to ge ng involved in any kind of “cheep signaling” movements (I use this term in
a neutral sense. It is not intended to mean these movements are right or wrong. My point is that to demonstrate
“ideas” is one thing, and to convert these ideas into real implementa on is another thing).
II、 Historical Note (Philosophical):Thomas Hobbes in “Leviathan” wrote: “Homo Homini lupus”(人對人來說是匹狼). From this no on he de-
veloped the “social contract theory” to explain the forma on and raison d´être of na on and government. Hsün
Ching (荀卿,即荀子) believed that the origin of human being is evil, the natural state of the society was full
of chaos, violence and cruel es. Humanity comes out of constraint and discipline of human nature (「故必
將有師法之化,禮義之道,然後出於辭讓,合於文理,而歸於治」)。 John Locke, Adam Smith and John
Stuart Mill found the beam of hope to resolve the confl ict between “private vices” and “public benefi ts”. Karl
Marx dismissed these theories as merely ideology to jus fy the capitalists’ unjust power of wealth. Marxism was
mistakenly and ruthlessly u lized by Joseph Stalin to create the Communist empire of Soviet Union. The con-
7
straint of human nature concept was, through reinforcement of Friedrich Nietzsche’s “might is right” philosophy,
usurped by Adolf Hitler to commit the greatest sin in human history. And do not forget, when he was hailed as
“the Savior of the Third Reich”, the German cons tu on law professor Carl Schmi praised him that “the Fürer
saved the Law”. What a ridiculous human fate!
III、 Back to the Reality:In the 911 terrorist a ack of 2001, thousands of people lost their lives. But Richard Grasso, the then Chairman
of the New York Stock Exchange, was paid a colossal bonus (several thousand mes of the average salaries of a
white-collar worker) for his “heroic act” - He was said to have “saved” the Exchange because he went to the site
the day a er the tragedy to ring the Exchange opening bell before the television broadcast. Certainly he is a fat
cat. Robert Rubin, a former head of Goldman Sachs and the former American Treasury Secretary, who reaped
more than one hundred million dollars bonus from the money games (risky investments of fi nancial products)
played by the Wall Street banks before he came to Washington. Then the 2008 fi nancial crisis and collapse erupt-
ed. Under Rubin’s advice (and of course with many other economists), Present George W. Bush asked Congress
to give 700 billion dollars for the “Bailout”. Shortly a er the bailout money poured to the fi nancial giants, huge
bonus were paid to the execu ves of these fi rms. A.I.G., the insurance giant, received 173 billion dollars bailout
money, soon paid 165 million dollars in bonuses to its employees in the division that had precipitated the crisis
(73 employees received bonuses of $1 million or more.). So, the world is not fl at. Instead, especially in the global
fi nancial system, the world is “curved”. It is possible that in the United States, the combined wealth of the few
top “richest families” may far exceed the combined proper es of half of the total American families. The same
happens everywhere, in China, Russia, India, and in fact every country in the world. Oh, how about Taiwan? You
all know be er than I do.
IV、 Refl ec on:In 2008, Senate Barack Obama was campaigning for U.S. Presidency. He delivered a speech at the University
of Colorado with a topic “ A New Era of Service”. He cri cized President George W. Bush for failing to summon
Americans to “shared sacrifi ce” a er the events of September 11, 2001. He said: “Instead of a call to service , we
were asked to go shopping. Instead of a call for shared sacrifi ce, we gave tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans in
a me of war for the very fi rst me in our history.” Obama encouraged “na onal service” or “public service”. He
told young people: “You invest in America, and America invests in you.” Obama won the elec on.
The “jus ce” in America has not improved appreciably since Obama took the offi ce. However, what President
Obama has proposed seems to be the only possible way to navigate this world to a more just society. It is true
for America, it is also true for Taiwan. The world is not fl at, the world is curved. The only answer to a ain a more
just society is “moral engagement”.
V、Jus ce Is The Quintessence:How to address the problems of societal poverty and inequality (collec vely, civil unrest)? How to deal with each
individual’s hardships and failures? There are so many available means and ways, valid or useless. There is no so
called “One Solu on” (放諸四海而皆準). Poli cians, educators, philosophers, priests, and notably, economists,
and every kind of “social engineering” theories are abundant everywhere and every me. Yet, most of them are,
for sure, not useful, nor trustworthy. They are confusing, misleading, and contradictory. You must fi nd your own
way to work out your own life. I cannot tell you how to succeed, nor even the Rotary. But there is one funda-
8
mental thing essen al to being a human being. That is “Jus ce”. A man of no jus ce is nothing but an organic
living mass; a society without jus ce is a state of Homo Homini lupus. This is not commonplace. This is simply
forgo en virtue. In the Hong Chun-Chiu case, in the Ta-Pu condemna on case, so many young men and girls
stood up to protest against “unjus ce”. These movements are not “cheap signaling”. What happened in Egypt
and Syria may also happen everywhere in the world. The human kind has been persistently pursuing the ideal
of “Jus ce”.
VI、 Rotary Way To A ain Jus ceRotary is a worldwide network of inspired individuals who translate their passions into relevant social causes to
change lives in communi es. To carry out this mission, Rotary emphasizes fi ve virtues: “Service”, “Fellowship”,
“Diversity”, “Integrity” and “Leadership”. The ideal of Rotary in this year (2012-2013) is “Peace through Service”.
It refl ects what I quoted from President Obama: “A New Era of Service”. That is, the idea of “public service”. I
fi rmly believe that through Rotary service, we can help achieve the goal of peace and ul mately, the ideal of
jus ce.
VII、RYLA Prepares Youth Leaders To The Cause Of Peace And Jus ce Through Leadership Development:
In Rotary, RYLA is the structured program to develop quali es of leadership, good ci zenship, and personal devel-
opment among the young people of their communi es. Agenda of RYLA include the following:
(1) Fundamentals of leadership
(2) Ethics of posi ve leadership
(3) Confl ict resolu on
(4) Problem solving
(5) Building self-confi dence and self-esteem
(6) Global ci zenship
These are undoubtedly the basic elements of virtues for a just society through public services. We off er this
Program to you, and in return, you make contribu ons to your own lives, your families and to the society. Rotary
invests in you, and you invest in Rotary.
I am glad to see-that the 2012-13 RYLA Camp of RI District 3480 was successfully carried out with 100 more par-
cipators. I knew that all par cipa ng members learned and enjoyed very much during this training. It will be a
gi for every one of you to have had this experience and the Debrief Report surely will become one of your most
treasured recollec ons in you lives. I give this short ar cle as my gi to all of you who par cipated in this Program
and who will be a leader in your future career post.

Remarks from R.I. PresidentSakuji TanakaPeace Through Service
The concept of peace is one that diff ers among people and cultures. It may mean personal tranquility, happiness in
the family, and a sense of inner contentment — or it may mean a situa on of safety where basic human needs are met.
However we defi ne peace, it is a goal that can be achieved through service.
In Rotary, service is much more than a sideline or an occasional pursuit. It is a way of life. It is an approach that
emphasizes considera on and caring for others, and leads to harmony among people. Through embracing service in all
aspects of our lives, we foster a spirit of sharing, fi nd goodwill for others, and choose peace.
In the 2012-13 Rotary year, peace will be our focus and our goal. I will ask all Rotarians to ac vely work for Peace
Through Service, beginning with every individual, family, club, district, region, and na on.
A belief in the power of service lies at the very heart of Rotary. By making service our priority, we put the needs of
others above our own and transform our perspec ve. We empathize more deeply with the diffi cul es of other people;
we feel a greater drive to reach out, to do what we can to help others live more happily. We become more generous with
our me and resources, and more open to new ways of thinking.
Instead of trying to change others, we recognize that everyone and everything has something to teach us — and
every day, there are new ways for us to grow.
Through service, we become more tolerant of our diff erences, and more grateful for the people in our lives. Our
sense of gra tude drives us to understand others be er and to see the good in everyone. Through be er understanding,
we learn to respect others. With mutual respect, we live with others in peace.
Our Rotary service fosters peace in many ways. In our clubs and our districts, we work to bring health, safety, and
human dignity to communi es around the world. As individuals, we are inspired to value coopera on over compe on,
and the common good over personal gain. Through self-refl ec on, we recognize that none of us is perfect and that each
of us has something to learn from others.
The mo o that is unique to Rotary, Service Above Self, describes the highest form of service. It is a path that any-
one can walk — a path that Rotarians have built, and that the whole world can follow. It is a path that eads to greater
kindness and contentment, tolerance and understanding. When we embrace Peace Through Service, we strive for a
greater peace for ourselves, and for our world.
Sakuji Tanaka President, Rotary Interna onal, 2012-13

Remarks of New Genera on Commi eeThe Future of Rotary is New Genera on
Congratula ons on the success of 2013 RYLA of District 3480. The fi rst
I think meaningful is to invite Rotary’s important service partner, the Rotarac-
tor, to be the organizer of 2013 RYLA. Most of the RYLA commi ee mem-
bers are so impressed that they took this challenge, spent a lot of eff orts, and
started to work so effi ciently to make it possible.
The 2nd point I would like to men on is the decision to pick up “English”
as the offi cial language for the workshop. It gives most of the par cipants an
opportunity to learn the leadership with a foreign language, as for the new
genera on, the future stage is not just in Taiwan but in the world. For a future
leader starts to master an important interna onal language will equip him or
her a good weapon to compete globally. I believe this a good reason.
The 3rd is the keynote speech by Ms. Shen Hsin-Ling. She is an example and excellent model for the young gen-
era on to follow. Also, even she has not yet been a Rotarian, what she has done is “Service Above Self”. She is well-
qualifi ed to be invited as an honorable member of a Rotary Club. She, at this age, has done much to serve the commu-
nity. Hope all the par cipants have learned from her inspira onal speech. The others such as the leadership training
programs provided by “Smart Orange” and “OBT”, the teamwork and the effi ciency of the RYLA Organizing Commi ee
are worthwhile for a big applause.
I would like to suggest that more Rotary Informa on to be included in the program. Leadership is one of the fi ve
core values of Rotary. As we are performing the “Rotary” Youth Leadership Award Workshop, we defi nitely must take
the opportunity to teach the par cipants what Rotary is and what Rotary does. All the Alumni of Rotary programs are
the poten al future Rotarians.
Anyway, my sincere congratula ons again for the job well done. We look forward to having further opportunity for
mutual coopera on of any Rotary service project in the year to come since the future of Rotary is new genera on.
Chairman, New Genera on Service Commi ee, RID 3480

Remarks of RYLA CEOWe Serve, We Lead
What is leadership? The term gets thrown around a lot, but is it really?
What do leaders do which makes them leaders? Can leadership be learned?
These are the typical ques ons when talking about leadership.
Actually, RYLA answers all above ques ons. Defi nitely, leadership could
be learned in many ways. True leaders are in high demand and short supply in
every fi eld. I was and am experiencing and learning all through RYLA. RYLA re-
ally teaches us about ourselves and how to become tomorrow’s next leaders.
In RYLA, we not only learn about leadership skills but to prac ce and improve
our leadership skills.
This is my third me a ending RYLA. Yet this me, I am not a par cipant but the chief execu ve offi cer for it. I
remembered at our fi rst gathering, we were seeing if there’s anyone who would volunteer to serve this posi on. No one
stepped out! I was recommended and encouraged to do so. I was hesita ng and wondering if I could make it. However,
I stepped out and volunteered to serve. At that moment, what came to my mind was only Rotary’s mo o, “Come in to
learn, go out to serve.” I’ve been in this family for around 6 years, and it’s me to return what I’ve learned from it. So
what I want to men on is “embrace every challenge which comes to you, for you will learn something and grow even
mature a er that.”
It was our fi rst-try that RYLA be organized by Rotaractors, instead of Rotarians. It was a long journey of 9-months
prepara on with more than 5000 man-hours. We together created something from nothing! The three-day program was
solid, fun and even educa onal. I s ll couldn’t believe that we made it big! However, it is the amazing team that fosters
RYLA! I am really appreciated for all feasible advices from RYLA commi ee, the hard work of the organizing team, and
the ac ve par cipa on of RYLArians. It is YOU made RYLA so wonderful! Thank you all!
I am lucky enough to serve as CEO this year. I do benefi t from it a lot, confi dence, leadership skills, and friendship.
It’s hard to describe my strong feelings in words. Yet I know, I will con nuously spread the spirit of RYLA for it does em-
power me to be a true leader of tomorrow. It’s a sweet process that you can work with a team, building trust with each
other, with people you don’t know for that long. Also, you bond with new people and learn much about Rotary aside
from leadership.
I’m grateful for my en re team member’s serving. We do lead ourselves and all the RYLArians to another stage.
Thank you all for making a fi ne page in history and marking a signifi cant milestone together for Rotaract!
Last, I want to share a quote from former U.S. president Ronal Reagan, “A leader, once conceived a par cular
course of ac on is the right one, must have determina on to s ck with it and be undaunted when the going gets rough.”
Hope you do take something back from RYLA as me. Wish all of us fi nd strength and determina on to ac on. Serve to
lead and lead to serve!
Yours in RYLA, Rotaract and Rotary,
Oliver Chang Chief Execu ve Offi cer, RYLA, RID 3480
from Rotaract Club of Taipei

Introduc on of RYLA 12-13We Serve, We Lead!
Young adults aged from 18-25 spent three days in a challenging program of discussions, inspira onal speeches,
leadership training and social ac vi es designed to enhance personal development, leadership skills and good ci zen-
ship.
During the camp, we meet Shen Hsin-Ling, a girl who devotes herself to helping local farmers and disadvantaged
kids, at our keynote speech. She shared with us how she starts her volunteer service and what she has gained from the
journey of service.
Also, we had a chance to par cipate in a character-building program provided by OBT, which focuses on leadership,
communica on, trust and coopera on. Besides, we were able to know more about our personal codes by the ac on
learning. U lizing adventure, personal commitments and shared insights, we thus gained an increased sense of confi -
dence in ourselves and in our team.
This winter, RYLA 3480 presented this superb camp at Aspire Park
in Longtan, Taoyuan, during 18-20 of January. Considered as one of the
outstanding youth programs in Rotary, our comprehensive volunteer
staff made RYLA 3480 a highlight of each par cipant’s experience.
lso, we hadd a chance to par cipate in a chara am provided by OBT, which focuses on leadership

Refl ec on from RYLArians Team 1 : Green Shrek (隊輔:Ashley)
胡仕揚
I think that I was lucky enough to join RYLA this year.
I have not heard about the Rotary Club or RYLA before. In my freshmen year, one teacher encouraged us to a end
RYLA, but unfortunately the school does not par cipate in RYLA. The teacher can only be referee. If possible, I hope
everyone can take the chance to go to other places to open our eyes to see.I submi ed applica on one day before the
deadline due to the bad habit of procras na on. Although, I’m studying in foreign languages department, I think my
English is not good.
On the fi rst day, RYLA staff members are very in mate in the MRT sta on exit holding a poster to guide us When I
walked closer to the bus, they smiled and asked me, RYLA?
I was assigned to the fi rst squad of Ashley. I am very happy to be able to recognize my partners, despite our age are
not exactly the same, but did not aff ect our friendship.
In each ac vity, we had to rely on partners to work together and complete. Myself alone, I will never do!
Prom party surprised me at fi rst night, thanks to RYLA staff ’s cheering. A live band music, food and drinks, the night
was also the fi rst me I invited girls to waltz with my clumsy dancing
The end of the fi rst day of the winter vaca on this year is in the joy of dance. The next morning, a hearty buff et
breakfast for us day opened prelude.
14
Speech in the morning, especially Shen Xin-Ling, she reminds us that what is the most important thing. Although
she is very dis nguished, but s ll very modest. Thank you for Shen Xin-Ling, you gave me the encouragements. Games
in the a ernoon, I learned that the important thing can not be perceived with eyes only.Eyes see something, of course,
the fi rst impression of the stranger.
I used to judge each person by appearances. But when our eyes are masked, everyone I encountered are the same,
because I met the heart of a stranger, and not only saw the appearance.
And the presenta on for service project is a major challenge. “Books, when you need them, you will fi nd you have
too li le of them.”I want to thank my partners, because of them, we can complete fi nal presenta on.The last day of
rocks climbing, I learned a lot of professional skills, and made all each other get closer.
A er three days of RYLA, I went back to Hsinchu.
The teacher who recommended me to par cipate in RYLA asked me how I felt, I answered, “fantas c!”
Then I raised my hands high in the air with two thumbs.
陳柏任
Recalling of these three days , I met a lot of new friends, learn how to use exis ng resources to complete the
task、team spirit、trust and challenge myself to complete fi nal presenta on.
This 3-days camp is diffi cult for me because my English is not good.
But I believe that no pains, no gains. l learned experience and even more impressive part is team work with my
team mates. How to trust teammates and make them believe me as well? In preparing for presenta on and diff erent
tasks, we learned the spirit of team work from RYLA this year. These moments are really good memories to me.
Everyone express their ideas and then we discuss with each other. Of course, we had some diff erent opinions.
However, we will communicate and draw out the fi nal conclusion. Although we have diff erent ac vi es every day and
asked to complete in limited me, it is ring but worthwhile.
In lectures on charity, I was impressed by沈芯菱. She is at our age, but displays ambi on beyond usual. Look at
others, let’s think about whether we can put out a hand to help others without asking for anything.
Another Jeff 福哥 speech, his presenta on allows us to understand clearly. This
one-hour speech concluded that prepara on is a very important work.
Thank RYLA staff ’s guidance in these three days. See you next me!!!

I really look forward to joining this leadership program. It is a chance that I can not only prac ce my English speak-
ing skills and also teach me more about how to be a leader. I am not a person that can comfortably talk to people who
just met a couple mes so I was really amazed by how my team worked together in these three days. It was on our way
to the Aspire Park and I heard two boys were talking in “English” then I really felt my English-learning trip started.
At fi rst, I thought that this program would be full of speeches and was a li le worried about my being spaced
out. But later, I discovered that we were going to learn from the games, which made me more relaxed and excited. The
speeches on the second day were truly inspiring. Especially, the 24 year-old girl’s speech gave me a lot of energy. I also
have a lot of dreams about helping others just like her but what makes us so diff erent? She use herself to prove that
saying is one thing and doing is really another. As she said, she didn’t learn any extra skills than we did; we all learned
about Internet and sending e-mails. The diff erence is that most of we use computers for entertainment, while she used
computer for helping people. She encouraged my enthusiasm toward my small dreams about helping my families with
a be er lives again.
I regre ed that I did not listen to 福哥’s principles on presenta ons earlier because I just gave an awful presenta-
on in English a couple months ago. If I had learned something from him earlier, I could have a higher score. However, it’s
s ll a good thing for me to learn it on my early 20s from a view of a life-long me. What he said was actually quite familiar
to us, though it was hard for us to achieve or we just “didn’t want to” do so since it took too much of me prac cing.
When we all kept si ng on the seats a er the presenta on on the second day, discussing about our fi nal presenta-
on, I could really feel that we were a team and was amazed by how a team cooperated with each other. The challenge
we had on the third day impressed me a lot, not only because we had lots of fun but it made me feel that I could be a
good leader. I listened to the guidance carefully and deliberately did well to avoid making mistakes.
I had a lot of fun, making a couple of friends and learned a lot from RYLA this year. I believe that we can all be good
leaders in diff erent fi elds in the future.

A ending RYLA camp is really a good choice for me to learn how to get along with people. Via par cipa ng many
kinds of ac vi es, I learned how to be a great leader, and what are the characteris cs of leadership, and so on.
In playing games, I experienced that our team makes teamwork perfectly, and we are also assigned works for each
person during brain-storming. I can see our team members put their hands together to make the goal.
The most impressive thing that I join RYLA camp is the two speeches. The fi rst speaker , whose name is 沈芯菱,
has taught me that I have no much me to do something in my rest of my life because her life-check-paper. “Deduct your
sleeping- me of the one third of your life- me, how much me do you truly have in your life?” She makes me know that
16
life is very short, and we have got to do something not just dream about it. She makes me realize that “just do it.” And I
am so glad and so grateful that I met her in this camp. The second speaker, whose name is 福哥, has taught me that I can
be a good speaker just like him if I try so hard and be well-prepared. He makes me realize that nothing is possible, A er
listening the two speeches, I can tell that the most important thing to be a great leader is “Just do it.”
In this RYLA camp, I challenge myself to do the extreme sports. I did rock climbing and walked a single-plank bridge
in the sky! Although I did not do well in the rock climbing, I had tried my best and insisted un l the last moment. A er
overcoming the fear in my mind, heart, and my body, which is really a diffi cult thing for me, it feels so wonderful that I
will never forget this experience.
Actually, I had joined the RYLA camp last year at once. Comparing to this year, I think I have made a big progress in
my opinion. I am more confi dent and know much more for what I stand. The most important thing is that I know much
more about myself, I think it is not an easy thing to surpass oneself. A er this camp, I realize that what I have to improve,
I hope I can join the next RYLA camp, and do be er than ever.
Finally, Thanks for all of RYLA staff s, you all are so great! RYLA is the best!

It was really an unforge able experience to take part in this camp. This camp gave me a lot of things beyond my
expecta ons. In these three days, I had much fun, made many good friends, and knew more about teamwork, most
important of all, I learned the spirit of how to be an extraordinary leader.
I was a class leader in high school for three years. Even though I have this kind of experience, I s ll need to keep
learning to be a be er leader. In the three- day-camp, I combined my past experience with new informa on. There is
spark in my mind and I got my mind refresh. For example, the elements of being a great leader are focus, trust , consid-
era on and so on. Refl ec ng my class leader life in high school. I give the classmates my trust, which makes the process
of work in class easier and more smoothly. Also I stood in their shoes and adjust my ways of doing.
In the camp, I had really awesome experience. I love every ac vity. I think every ac vity is well-organized and
well-designed. I can learn diff erent things in each ac vity. On the fi rst day, I learned how to dance with people who I
never met before. Breaking the ice with unfamiliar people is the thing I haven’t done before. I think this ability is impor-
tant because there are many circumstances that we need to build up the friendship with the people we fi rst know. On
the second day, we had some brilliant speeches which gave me many inspira ons. And the ac vity in the a ernoon is
special. I got a lot of knowledge through the games. I learned precious things such as concentra ng on everything we
are doing. Also, I realized how to trust people for being a good leader. The importance of teamwork is emphasized. The
brainstorming at night was a new experience for me. I haven’t done this thing before. Speaking in front of a lot of people
without preparing is really nervous. I did my best because I didn’t want to regret. On the third day. In the morning, we
had exci ng OBT ac vity which is my favorite. In the a ernoon, we had presenta on for service project. I love the project
plans presented by every group.
I love this camp, I will encourage others to par cipate in the future.
17
陳霈潔 It is an great honor to par cipate in the wonderful ac vity. To be a leader, I s ll have a lot to learn.
In this three-day RALY camp, we can not only prac ce how to communicate with others but also lead others as well
as being led. We learned the spirit of team work from our team members. That’s very important for me.
In this camp, we had the opportunity to exchange ideas about service ideas and discuss leadership. I like the RYLA
slogan, ”We serve, we lead”. Peter Drucker, ”Management is doing thing right; leadership is doing the right thing” a
leader is not necessarily an effi cient execu ve but he must foresee future trends.
Thanks RALY, give me this chance !!
林姿吟I was a very shy girl, so I decided to change myself. At fi rst, when
my dad told me the camp ,”Rotary Leadership Award Workshop”, I
decided to join in this camp. I knew that I could learn many things in the camp. I hope that I could learn how to make a
good team work and some useful leadership skills. Most of all, I hope that I could change myself. And when my dad knew
that we have to speak English in the camp, he was really happy. He hoped that I could improve my English community
skills in this three days.
At the fi rst day, when we arrived at the Aspire Park, no one knew each other. But the team leaders asked us to
introduce ourselves in English. I was nerves, because my English is really poor. I was really afraid that I would make the
mistakes. Fortunately, I made a good introduc on----that means I didn’t make any mistakes.
The fi rst ac vity in Aspire Park in Longtan, Taoyuan County was the RPG game. We needed to make a good team
work to complete missions. I thought that we made a good team work. Only when we completed all the levels can we
enter the restaurant to take a break. It was cold outside but really funny. I even got sick, a er coming back! At night, the
party was really nice, everybody was really high. But it is a pity that I don’t have enough me to exchange name cards
to others. The speech was really great. Both speeches made me have new ways of thinking to become a be er person
in the future.
In this three days, I actually learned some good team work skills and personali es of a good leader.
I will learn to change myself.
What a wonderful experience that I have ever had in RYLA !

林士凱What’s RYLA? As a Rotaract Club member, but I have no idea about RYLA. Bak-Hai Rotary Club gave me an oppor-
tunity to join 2012-13 RYLA, I treasure the opportunity because I am already 23 years old.
I have to say that I get to know more about myself in these days.
On the fi rst day, although the weather was so cold, our team did our best to play the fi eld games. Our rela onships
became closer in that me. The party night, I was so happy to learn dancing with other girls and exchange name cards
with each other. I was so surprised that I got excited with band.
On the second day, I had so many feeling in the keynote speeches, because they said so many meaningful things.
I was so ashamed, because one of them is at my age, but I did nothing. Another lecture was talking about presenta on
skills, I learned so many prac cal skills.
I was surprised by the ac on learning me, because every member enjoyed interac ng with others. Although the
gym was so hot, but I though everyone’s heart was ho er than gym. In the Brainstorming me, there were just thirty
minutes assigned for us to fi gure out the marke ng strategies for service project. Everyone seized every minute and
second to challenge the mission. I used poor English to talk to everyone, it was a wonderful self-advancement.
We got up very early on the third day, because we have to play OBT ac vi es. Although I already played it years
ago, but I s ll had fun. Not only the adventurers but also the saver teams played together, everyone had great coopera-
on. It was a glorious me. We were so nervous in the a ernoon, because every team had to do fi nal presenta on.
Thanks our members, they worked so hard to do the project.
Thanks RYLA for giving me so many valuable memories. Thanks to uncles who give us so many encouragements.
In the end, I also had a word to RYLA staff : Thanks for your painstaking.
林廷韋 Just like many famous poli cians, a leader should require not
just a determined mind but a strong will to lead a group of people.
In fact, a Leader doesn’t need to show their ability but to persuade
other smart people. I have been wondering what quali es a successful leader should have un l I had received the invita-
on from RYLA camp. A er a short hesitate, I decide to take courage to join this camp. Although I was a li le bit afraid
at the beginning, I had learned many things from this camp more than just leadership.
As I met our teammates, I thought that we might have some communica on diffi cul es because I’m the youngest
student in this camp. However, as we were ge ng more familiar with each other, I actually realized that age doesn’t
aff ect the rela onship between each other. In fact, I had met many friends that even nine years older than me. A er
many ac vi es such as ground ac vity, presenta on and rock climbing, I had learned that it is not really necessary to be
a whole leader of all. In fact, a leader should perceive the ability of the people, and encourage the poten al people to
represent their best.
eader should have un l I had received the invita-
19
Moreover, being a good leader for a specifi c situa on isn’t enough. In my opinion, a leader should also have to
learn how to “trust” a person. Flashing back to the memory as we were doing our presenta on, we were having a li le
confl icts by diff erent opinions given by diff erent people: Some of the people prefer to draw posters for Q&A prizes as
soon as possible, while others prefer to focus on the speech. So we decided to divide the group into two parts; people re-
sponsible for drawing poster, while others for the speech in the presenta on. In the end, the process was very effi cient,
and I realized that all the people are actually powerful enough to build up a plan. The only thing we needed is a person
who can lead them into the right direc on.
Most importantly, through RYLA, I had become more confi dent and out-going. From the past, I used to be a shy,
humble kid who seldom communicated with others. However, as I met many people, especially people much older than
me. I suddenly realized that it is Okay to randomly meet someone you didn’t know. On the fi rst day night of the RYLA,
we were invited to dance with people around you. Even though I was too afraid to dance with girls, I suddenly took the
courage to meet with other student. At that moment, I have learned that it is hard to achieve a dream without even
trying it.
A er the RYLA leadership ac vity, I had learned many unforge able experiences, and I want to thank all of the
teammates, facilitators and other staff . If I ever have a chance to join any related leadership camp, I am, defi nitely, will-
ing to par cipate.

Team 2 : Starry Night (隊輔:Vicky)
游曜文
On the fi rst day, we were unfamiliar, so we only cha ed with people nearby or on the same team. But through this
game “goalie” we became closer. When we arrived at Aspire Park, there were series of earth games, including puzzle
solving. At night, on the the highlight of the ball party, we danced waltz and invited girls to dance. Dance is really a very
happy thing, no wonder there are so many people fond of dancing, so the end of the fi rst day of the trip in a happy
atmosphere!!!
On the second day, we listened to Ms.”沈沁菱” and 王永福” on keynote speeches. 沈沁菱fi rst introduced her
hometown. She was not born in a wealthy family, but knew how to share and to thank other people, this is a very great
spirit. Then王永福, he taught us on briefi ng. To make an presenta on, we had to be well-prepared. A ernoon, we have
training ac vi es on trust. Usually people will not trust strangers easily; however, this me we learned to believe people.
I learned in this course how to convince others and trust others is really not an easy task.
On the third day, we played OBT, the most exci ng ac vity, we were ed with ropes and climbed onto single-plank
bridge. It tested our pa ence, guts, and also the team work. When someone challenged to climb above, teammates
below had to support him in this ac vity. I learned that happiness comes from helping others succeed. In a ernoon, we
reported separately on social project presenta on. It was my fi rst me to speak English on stage, I felt really great.
A er RYLA, I learned a lot of things, such as presenta on skills and leadership. Although it was only a short period
of three days, but we Starry night is the best.
黃雅晨
I really enjoyed the three-day camp, spending me with amazing teammates and the Rylarians.
I did not expect it to be so interes ng before the event. However, I was impressed by our facilitator, Vicky. She was
so energe c and full of passion. She was a very responsible facilitator and always wore a smile. Although she was busy
with all the work, she tried her best to join and play with us.
In addi on, I like my teammates very much. We are so closely connected and worked together in games and proj-
ects. Although we did not win the fi rst prize, but we all had fun during the sessions. The games on the fi rst day helped us
break the ice and get to know each other. The projects made us understand each other more because we were able to
know in which fi eld every person is good at. We came up with crea ve ideas and turned them into a complete project.
Although the night was tough, we s ll enjoy working together with each other. My teammates never blamed on oth-
ers.
21
We did our best and tried to make contribu on to the team. Unlike other teams, we spent a great night cha ng
and laughing together a er a ring day. Also, we made a reserva on for dinner a er RYLA. We wanted to con nue the
friendship instead of being passerby. I cherish our friendship and I hope that it will last forever.
Besides my teammates, I also like all the Rylarians, including the facilitators. They were very clever and innova ve.
I appreciate the ideas that they came up with, and I did learn much from them. It was really nice to meet other youths at
my age. Learning from each other is the best way to absorb knowledge for the communica on and interac on.
Thanks to all the staff responsible for RYLA. I really had fun and learned a lot during the three-day ac vity. It would
not have been so successful without your eff ort. Leadership is a very crucial element in our lives. Although we had many
games and lessons concerning leadership. Finally, thanks to all the Rotarians who supported the event. They gave us op-
portuni es to learn things which reference books can not provide. I had a great me and learned a lot. Thank you all.
楊揆元
This is my fi rst me to join RYLA camp, so it’s so exci ng to me. I didn’t have any friends or anyone I know here.
I was so busy because I have a part- me job during my winter vaca on. So I just have one day to prepare my luggage,
introduc on card and other stuff .
On the fi rst day, I brought heavy luggage and just sat back in the bus . And the staff wanted us to introduce our-
selves about school and age. A er introduc on, we played many ice-breaking games. When the bus arrived at the Aspire
Park, we played outdoor group exercise games.
Most importantly, the dancing night was so high and off ered snacks, drinks and live band.
On the second day, we listened to two speeches.
Shen Xin-Ling is a girl who helped many people when she was young. She didn’t want any sponsors’ support be-
cause she did not want her off ering to be regarded as metamorphism. And I also admire her courage. Because she is just
23 year’s old like me, but she is ready to complete many things I can’t do.
Another speech is about presenta on skills. It’s very useful to us and also helpful to our project on the third day.
A er dinner and brain storming. Our team mates had a small mee ng. In this mee ng, we talked about our what
we learned and everyone’s feelings. There were 11 people in our team. Someone was very ra onal and also someone
was crazy .But we achieved many goals in three days. Maybe we have diff erent ideas in many things. But we discussed,
and made an agreement. So we didn’t have any dispute. That’s our pride. On the third day we had an OBT and presenta-
on. It’s also funny and Interes ng.
In these three days, I also learned how to be a good leader and what’s leadership.
A good leader must have personality traits, including vision, mo va on, trust, image, courage and strategy. And
most importantly, successful leader has power to infl uence others!
And I also learned the 6 compass. 1. a moral compass, 2. an intui ve compass, 3. historical compass,
4. a direc onal compass, 5. a strategic compass, 6. a visionary compass.
In this Ryla camp, I learned many things and also overcome many diffi cul es. Otherwise, I got acquainted with
many friends. And I believe these three days will last in my mind forever!
We serve, We lead!

Firstly, I really need to say that this is the best winter camp I have
ever par cipated. From playing the outdoor games to presenta on, it
not only teaches us about teamwork but also breakthrough. I think it is
really great to combine playing and learning. Now I want to tell about
these three days and how I felt.
On the fi rst day, we met at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. My brother and I were a li le bit excited because we both
like to make friends. When I got into the bus, I met my fi rst teammate, Kevin. He is a nice guy then we had a good con-
versa on. A er pu ng down our luggage, Vicky asked each teammate to introduce ourselves. There are ten members in
our team, the boys are Kevin, Elvin, Andy, Louis and me, the girls are Katy, Mary, Kate, Winnie and Audrey. Although we
made some mistakes in outdoor ac vi es, all of our team mates s ll got closer to be a good team. A er dinner, the party
was really cool. Dancing is a good way to let everyone not to be shy, of course I s ll think the singer did a good job to
create atmosphere higher than I thought. And exchanging name cards really made me breakthrough, I used to get easily
embarrassed in front of girls. This me I got the most cards in my team. When the party went to the end, my teammates
and I went to 7-11 for midnight snacks. This is the wonderful fi rst day.
On the second day of brainstorming, we only have thirty minutes to make a brief introduc on about our project.
Each of us discussed many project targets, and agreed to help children who got nothing to eat. We helped them with
the food from market. Most of them may not be good-looking but s ll edible. Then we collected, and cooked for the
children. Here I wanted to say sorry to my team mates because I did not do in report. We discussed our project un l mid-
night .Then we went outside to share our experiences in these days, I thought my teammates were really awesome.
On the last day, we played the OBT. I was the fi rst protector to save the climber. I am 60 KG, but he is 85KG. When
he fell down, it was too fast that I could not stop him so I fl ew into the air. We both laughed when he fi nished his achieve-
ment. I think this is the best moment in these ac vi es. At fi nal presenta ons, the most important ac vity in RYLA. I did
my best and needless to say my teammates did great job. I love my team “starry night”. By the way, I was also surprise
that I won second prize for personal reward in RYLA, I think this shall belong to our team. Hope I can join the RYLA next
year.
陳柏安
A er 3 days amazing ac vi es, all RYLArians had a good experi-
ence of group ac vi es, me included. I had be er to write down my
refl ec on about the camp.
When it comes to why I joined RYLA camp, I would probably say that it was absolutely a coincidence. None of
members in my family are Rotarians; what’s more, I even didn’t know what Rotary club is. I just got a chance to see the
poster in my school, which looked so interes ng that I determined to join immediately.
y that it was absolutely a coincidence None ofN

When I met other members and our group facilitator in the bus, I got more and more excited about the camp.
In the group ac vity games, though our group kept running to wrong direc ons and got wrong clues, it is such a great
chance to promote mutual understanding and interac ons among our team members. We collected some materials to
decorate our armbands, which is our symbol.
As I men oned, we didn’t do a good job in the game. However, our spirit and perseverance are powerful enough to
beat any other group. We named our team “starry night”, which means we are always the most shinny stars at night.
Leader’s night must be the highlight in the fi rst day. The band “Cheers” played for all RYLArians and gave us a mar-
velous party. With their interac on during the performance, we were all touched by their passion and vitality. Also, all
RYLArians learned an essen al skills of dancing. Waltz is a classical ballroom and folk dance in triple me. Though danc-
ing with girls is a li le embarrassing, we all enjoyed dancing and cha ng with those we were not familiar. It is probably
the fi rst me for us to learn social dance. Indeed, it is an unforge able experience to learn another way to socialize.
Undoubtedly, Hsin-Lin Shen is another spotlight in these three days. Ms. Shen is not a famous celebrity but a
young girl at my age. She dedicated herself to helping local farmers and kids. Unlike most young people, who go shop-
ping or play video games in their leisure me, Ms. Shen always thinks about some service project that could make Tai-
wanese society be er. Even though she is only a young girl without limited resources, she seeks some handy tools in our
daily life. She told us that even a website or a short video could aff ect lots of people and drive them to do more service.
It is her spirit and courage that touched my heart deeply.
All in all, I felt really glad to join in RYLA camp. All the group ac vi es and keynote speeches broaden my vision
to my future. Of course, not everyone would be a leader in the future; however, we have to learn to be a leader and to
be led. Those are all signifi cant traits that we should bear.
陳美然
RYLA was a frui ul and unforge able experience. Through series of ac vi es and lectures, I witnessed how lead-
ership played a role in a group of people. We all know that enthusiasm; op mism, courage, insight, humbleness and
humor… are all very crucial traits of leadership ,but to say is one thing, to do is another. Therefore, I would say the great-
est part of RYLA was that it provided us a simulated environment, a miniature of our society, and let us learn how to
communicate and cooperate, in order to achieve our goal.
It was in a shivering cold a ernoon, when I fi rst met my group members—Edward, Kevin, Winnie, Audrey, Andy,
Elvin, Katy, Kate, and Louis. Our counselor was Vicky, who was a pre y girl at my age. We got to know each other and
built up friendship. On the second day, we listened to a lecture given by Shen Hsin-Ling, who was an outstanding young
girl who set up a teaching website for poor, educa on-deprived kids. She also showed us some photos of those “ordinary
people”—ignored most of the me, yet they had the most posi ve a tude toward life. I admired her from the deepest,
and when she took out a paper with all the bricks represen ng the months we s ll have for the rest of our lives, I was
startled by the fact that, I won’t have that much me to do whatever I want to do. And what’s even more, when she took
out another paper with bricks represen ng the months that my parents s ll have, my eyes were full of tears. I felt that
my life needed a change.
24
Since me is limited, I should really make good use of it. Life is a con-
stant process of decision-making, and our choice will infl uence our future.
Although there are so many things worthy of giving a shot, be always focusing
on the ma er that means the most to you should be the only principle during
decision making.
Three days in RYLA wasn’t about compe on. It’s about leadership and
what’s more, coopera on. A er listening to Shen Hsin-Ling’s lecture, I think
a true leader is an mo vator. She doesn’t have to be the smartest, or the
richest, yet the fi re she held so steadily ignited the li le seeds in everyone’s
hearts. That’s a true leader. And that’s what we look up to. Start now, and
envision the future. I hope, that when a er all of us went back home the li le
fl ame from RYLA, we could all set the fl ame on fi re, and be the future mo va-
tor, no ma er what we do, where we are.
陳雅琴
The ac vi es are cool, the fi rst day morning of outdoor games, it let our team have a very good rela onship. At
night, we learned to dance at the party, exchanged name cards and made a lot of new friends. It surprised me to be
selected as the party queen. I am very shy, but it was an unforge able memories to me.
The next day was great, I was glad to hear such a nice speech. Because I’ve been engaged in volunteer ac vi es
for a long me, I like to share happiness with others, also like to help people and stray animals. The speech par cularly
touched my heart, and let me feel very meaningful.
In RYLA, I made lots of friends, and learned to lead and be led. The most important thing is “we all have the same
goal, which is the largest harvest in this ac vi es!

At the beginning, I was not sure what RYLA was and what I was going to experience in RYLA, but I know there
was something that would broaden my vision. During the three days in RYLA, I made many good friends. Some of team
members came from diff erent universi es, so we did learn from each other. In addi on, the most special part of RYLA
was that it provided many opportuni es for every par cipant to be team leaders, and to develop their leadership. First
of all, one would be selected or volunteer to be the leader; and then he or she would conduct a series of discussions and
make sure every member know their own responsibility; lastly, the leader would be in charge of organizing everyone’s
output to get a project done.
Furthermore, there were also great speeches. Ms. Shen Xin-Ling was very amazing. It’s beyond our imagina on
that a girl engaged in charity ac vi es since she was only eleven years old, and even un l now. Thanks to her speech,
we learned about leadership and more aware of the importance of helping people in need. Originally, Ms. Shen helped
her neighborhood farmers sell fruit to the whole society in Taiwan. She had her faith, helped and served to spread hap-
piness, and then shared to more people. When listening to her speech, and watching the photos, I was reminded of
being thankful that I could sit here. She rendered many people, let more people want to serve the society and became
a wonderful cycle.
Besides the charity ac vi es, she also reminded us to treasure everything we have. Especially the life we owned.
She used an example ”life paper” to express most human’s life about 900 mouths, but excluding the past and sleeping
hours. It is a concept of quan fy that we can realize how much we s ll own. Maybe we are young now, but life is limited.
In addi on to our life, my parents are in the same situa on, don’t waste the chance and be kind to our parents. In other
func on, the life paper can be used in checking our life goals, know where we should move forward.
Finally, it was a precious chance to join RYLA. I think my vision has been broadened and even reshaped. I saw many
people of excellent English ability that made me want to improve. I made some good friends in RYLA, and they gave
me good sugges ons like ways of study, English-speaking tools, and making foreign friends. A er mee ng some foreign
friends, I found that conversion with them have a li le fun.
I made my study plan very soon and run it every day, and one of my dreams is to work abroad in movie post-
produc on company. To make something cool like” Avatar ”and” The Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey”. I ignored this for
many years. It is never be too late to try anything valuable. Besides in career, I would also bring something benefi cial
back to Taiwan.

Leadership Camp for three days, It really benefi ted my life. On the fi rst day, I par cipated in outdoor games. Our
team fi gured out team name and then prac ced the team cheering. In ballroom dancing, we exchanged business cards
and listened to live band. Happy and memorable night party.
Next day, we present team cheering very nervously. I think some of our table limits failed, but cool!
I think that helps me a lot. I am also impressed with a series of lectures, and I’ll take me to learn! The immediate
group discussions required our ability to respond. Everyone should be responsible for his or her assignment in the group.
On the third day, we played OBT games and played our own role respec vely. Whether in school or in the company or in
the life, each one is an integral part of any role!
I really enjoyed this three-day event!

Hi, this is Lucas. I’m glad and honored to share my feedback at RYLA from 1/18 to 1/20. I would say RYLA is one
of the best training ac vi es I’ve had. The three-day program did provide me and all par cipants a great opportunity to
explore the fi eld of leadership, and also, a great chance to know more about Rotaract and Rotary Clubs. Honestly, I even
considered being part of the club since I received so many touching ideas and scenes during the program.
The reason for me to register for this program was because I wanted to know more about how to be a leader and
how to help others to be leaders. Leadership has been one of the issues that interest me. I believe leadership is part
of everything. For example, when hanging out with a group of friends, and if needed to decide which restaurant to go,
then leadership is important if everyone wants to reach a mutual agreement. Therefore, I came to here with a ques on
on the fi rst day. Although I couldn’t tell what was the connec on among leadership, fi eld games, and ballroom party on
the fi rst day.
I did realize that there is also several ways to learn how to be a leader fi nally. In the process, my special a en on
was drawn to how RYLA cul vated those young leaders, and I really appreciated the programs such as games, ballroom
party, speeches, and teamwork. RYLA not only provided par cipants opportuni es to know the know-how of being a
leader, but also set up a perfect pla orm for us to put what we’ve learned in to prac ce.
During my days in RYLA, I also have learned some impressive thoughts. First of all, one of the host members men-
oned that “leadership is a process, not just giving orders, but to encourage teammates.” That inspired me a lot, origi-
nally, I couldn’t give a precise defi ni on of leadership; however, through the words by the host, I was gradually able to
approach the true idea of leadership. Therefore, in RYLA, I liked to observe that what kind of leader I am and also how
others to be leaders, and did hope that I was the one who could bring warmness and power to my teammates. In addi-
on, in RYLA, I also have learned how to overcome diffi cul es. One of the host members said that “The key point isn’t
the diffi cul es, but your a tude toward it.” Yes, I was inspired by it a lot, and did hope that I can put this idea with me
wherever I go. Accordingly, when doing extreme sports, I forced myself to climb high, to walk, and jump. Those were the
breakthroughs that I couldn’t imagine I could achieve. With the belief of trus ng myself and believe in the importance
of having posi ve a tude, I realized that there is nothing which can beat me ever.
Thank you for everything, RYLA.

This is the fi rst me for me to join Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Excellent ac vi es, excellent interac ons, ex-
cellent three days with my group members in the Aspire Park in Longtan, Taoyuan.
First day, we start to get along with each other during games. It’s hard to believe we just met and introduced our-
selves for 10 minutes and can play together like we’re all old friends. Playing games, team work, par es, we spent three
days together and making our friendship forever. I’m so glad that I’ve got those wonderful team mates. They speak Eng-
lish so well, and got those funny ideas. I really enjoyed the three days with all of them. I cherished every moment with
them and our friendship. Thank to Molly and CAFFEINE !!!!!

I am really happy in this three days. This camp is really great. I really love the fi rst speech, given by Shen, Hsin-
Ling. It is incredible that she is young as us. How brave is she is! How kind is she is!I made up my mind to emulate
her. Hoping I could help more and more people in this society. Lots of words she said impressed me. The easy thing
you do for a long me will become signifi cant .There is nothing impossible, and the key point is your a tude. It is true
that we all know, but we can’t do by ourselves. If we change our mind, the angle of our vision will not be limited to 160
degree. What’s more, the workshop is really useful. So many technique that I have learned such as the big words, half
words half picture, all pictures. A good presenta on is not compressing all informa on to the audience, but to persuade
everyone.
Ac on learning is interes ng. Mirror and micmic blind game gave me lots of fun. The OBT is the most s mula ng
oneIt is quite shameful that I kept shivering and shou ng on the steel on the sky. Party night, talking to lots of diff erent
friends. The atmosphere is pe y great. Cheer band is professional. I got many diff erent cards! The dance is fun, too.
The service project gave us a chance to cooperate with the group team member and know more each other. The last
presenta on, though our performance is not pre y well, everyone did their best. I think this is a really good memory.
In our group, there are lots of remarkable people. Milly, she is beau ful and has rich good ideas and always the fi rst
speaking person, gave our team lots of fun!Lucus, just like our big brother, he is not only smart but also kind!Every
word he said is very mature! He always thinks about other people’s feelings, the greatest leader that I have seen! His
English is so remarkable. Hoping that I could become as great as him one day!Eric is passionate and outgoing. The fi rst
me I saw him, I regarded him as a foreigner. Tim is really brave and talented. I really love the power point he made. In
short, I really love my team, CAFFEINE. Thank you, guys for giving such great memory. Hoping we could meet each other
another day.
The last but not least, is the thing I learned from this camp. The leadership may need a future vision. The inspiring
ability to the group, knowing diff erent members’ feelings. He always mo vates his followers. He has to trust his or her
members with a decisive mind and provide remarkable strategies to the whole team. The last thing I want to thank again
for all the RYLA camp workers. This is a really great team I have joined. Thank you all!

This me, I joined Ryla camp at January 18th to 20th. At beginning, I really didn’t want to a end, because I didn’t
know anyone in this ac vity and maybe we should put up the tent by ourselves. However, my father told me that camp
not only is very meaningful, but I can get a lot of special harvests and experiences..
First day, there were two main ac vi es to let us know each other more. The fi rst one, we started with acquain ng
with each other through the game. Every group had to pass each challenge. So, we should keep discussing and com-
munica ng with our group members. And the second is the party. The staff s taught us how to dance the waltz, so that
we could dance with everyone, exchange the personal name card and chat with everyone even other group’s member.
Those ac vi es were very helpful to the goal which make us get familiar with everyone, I supposed.
The second day, we listened to the two speeches. I didn’t know fi rst speaker at all before this speech. Her speech
contents were very touching and impressive to me. I didn’t know that there will have someone who is really caring about
every person in Taiwan. She not merely told those stories, but taught us that we should not waste our life me. It’s a
very persuasive speech. Next one is about the presenta on skills. In my school, I had a class which is taught us how to
make the presenta on success. I think that I have learned all skills about presenta on, however, a er this speech I think
I was not learn enough. If I want it perfect, I should learn it more. This speech is pre y valuable to me. In the evening,
we had a very terrible event, that is short presenta on in fi ve minutes. We must outline our rough service concep on
in half hour , and then present it in 5 minutes. It’s very exci ng! I have never ever preparing a presenta on in this kind
of short me. That’s a big challenge for us. Finally, I don’t know that if our presenta on is good or not. But, we fi nished
and we did it without any quarrel. Just with harmonious coopera on. A er this small terrible presenta on, we had to
prepare a big horrible fi nal presenta on for tomorrow. We should summarize today’s idea, make it longer and more
detail. In the conference hall, every group discussed never stop and hardly. Just like Olympic compe on. Everyone was
working very hard.
And the last day was coming. In the morning, we were awakened earlier than yesterday morning. And we were
led by the staff s to a secret place. What? Walk a ghtrope? Are you crazy? I will never do it! It’s my thought at fi rst. We
should help each other, not only the person who on the ghtrope is important, but those partners on the ground are
also important. We know that how important about team work. At last I did it! I can trust my partners and our friendship
were becoming closer. And the following is scaring fi nal presenta on, we fi nished it and every group showed a lot of
presenta ons with the en re diff erent types. It makes me surprise! How a amazing presenta on exhibi on.
A er three days ago. I think that is very worthy and I’m very auspicious that I have the opportunity to join this
camp. It’s not only a camp, but a meaningful ac vity. I did many things that I have never done before.

Leader is someone who can mo vate others.
It was really amazing to join this camp for 3 days. In the camp I’ve learned a lot and also made variety of friends
from other universi es. This really broadened my horizon for we’ve discussed numbers of topics such as educa on, eco-
nomic and also our habits. Some people stand for A plan while another for B plan. And it is our various viewpoints that
made us improve. Tim, one of our team members, talked about his personal experience when he was in army, giving
us diff erent view of seeing the society. He talked about the reality for entering the society and concluded that without
English, we have li le chance to get higher or be er jobs. S ll, I’ve talked with a girl from NTU. We’ve talked about psy-
chology a day long because both of us had studied about this. I will do my best to let others know it is really worthy join
this camp.
As for Lucas fi rst. Lucas was one of the people in this camp I admire most. He was an English tutor in cram school
and also shows the empathy in most of the me. We talked English almost every moment while we met each other, even
when we stayed in the room. The next day we’ve lesion a speech for what is essen al for being a leader. And one of the
charisma that I didn’t think before was not only being a be er person but also encouraging your team mates. At that
moment, I‘ve decided to help Tim for he was embarrassed to speak English. Lucas and I discussed on how to improve
Tim’s English ability, wishing he can make a big improvement in the near future. Talking about empathy, whenever Lucas
found out that someone was in trouble, he would give his hand to others without hesita on.
Next, I would like to talk about what I have learned when
encountered with obstacles. The fi rst obstacle I met was giving a
speech in front of people. I was nervous when I’m preparing. But
since I prac ced more and more, I became less nervous. S ll my
team mates also cheered me up. Next obstacle was walking in the
air in OBT games. I thought that I was brave enough to do this but
the truth is I was wrong. I could hardly breathe on the air. But s ll
again, thanks to my team mates suppor ng me. I fi nally beat my
fear. For what I learned in camp, do not fi ght by oneself. Your team
mates will become the strongest power for you.
I introduced my friend from other countries to Tim a er the camp.

The fi rst day when I was lugging my things across the city to catch a 12:30 bus ride, I was doub ul of the days to
come. Because I help planned a few camps and events, I knew all too well that there were bound to be errors and delays
that will insidiously ruin the schedule. Rides that weren’t on me, should-have-could-have fi rst-aid measures that may
lead to injuries, and unforeseen weather pa erns, all the li le things that will end up spoiling the fun. Most of all, a er
the long hard semester, I was not in the mood of excitement.
On the bus to our des na on, as I suspected, we played pe y games that robbed me of the chance to take a nap.
A three day disaster was unraveling before my eyes. I know some day I will look back and laugh at my own misfortunes,
but at that moment, there was nothing but regret that fi lled my mind.
A er we arrived, fi rst on the schedule was running around the venue hun ng for clues and playing games. The
games were not exci ng per se. Worse of all, the facilitators had a very poor grasp at scheduling. Many teams had no
me to fi nish all the ac vi es, and had to return to the dining hall for dinner with an air of dissa sfac on. Subsequently,
there was an evening ball in the gymnasium, where we listened to a band play and danced. As expected, the acous cs
were terrible and the music was so loud it gave me headaches. A quick glance at my phone confi rmed that my fi rst day
was about to end in disappointment. The only consola on I got was that I was not the only one suff ering.
The second day, I opened my eyes and braced. In the morning, we were crammed into the auditorium and listened
to two presenters. One ques on, “what is the furthest distance?” got me thinking. I was si ng in the middle of the
auditorium, and I took a good look at the people around me and at myself. The furthest distance is what ROTARY stands
for and what they actually are. The weight of the decisions the so-called aun e and uncles carry can do so much more
if they tried. They have the power to make a real impact to the society, yet they choose to entertain themselves with
trivial ma ers in the name of ROTARY. Time was ng dinner dates, mee ngs, and gatherings. It was a disgus ng display
of mediocrity, bureaucracy, and ludicrousness right before my eyes. The Rotaractors who spent so much me preparing
for this three-day event were doing a sublime job. They put much eff ort, determina on, and forethought into planning.
Yet their great inten ons were mutated by the even greater egos of the Rotarians, crea ng this miserable mess. Events
like opening ceremonies, opening remarks, and opening messages plaguing the schedule like a disease, overshadowing
the poten al of the event itself.
A er that realiza on, I could see more clearly. I threw away all the inten ons to learn, replaced it with a new reso-
lu on to enjoy the company, enjoy the events, and make the most out of my me, because fun wasn’t going to have
itself. Although there was much to be improved in later events, even the more obvious fl aws no longer ma ered. I got
to really know and become friends with my team. Now I know the true meaning of misery loves company. When there
are great friends with you, even shit can smell good.

January was the last day of my school semster, I went to the school in the morning. I le earlier, because RYLA was
on the same day. A er lunch, I took the MRT to the bus stop. The buses were already there, wai ng for us. I went on
the bus with a friend I just knew, Ruby. We cha ed while we were wai ng for other members, she was really friendly to
me. Finally everyone was there, the bus started to move. We played games on the bus, our facilitator, Tina, also let us
introduce ourselves to others, which made us know each other more easily. Every group member on the team seemed
to be really nice.
A er we arrived at the Aspire park, we put down our luggage in a room, and all the ac vi es started. The most
unforge able ac vity must be OBT ac vity we did on the third day. We went to a place where we could experience those
high ropes adventures. I was quite afraid of height. As I fi rst stepped at the thin rope, but I was scared, there was nothing
I could hold, and no one could help me to walk to the other side of the thin rope. What I really wanted to do was to quit,
but I didn’t. I hear people telling me that I could do it, they gave me faith, which made me keep walking forward. I made
it! But I believed, without them cheering me out, it won’t be possible.
In these three days, we also played a lot of games, which needed the whole group to par cipate in, which needed
everyone to cooperate, which needed us to put our trust in others. I gained a lot from those games. I really liked my
group, not only because they were nice, but also united. For example, a er the ring ac vity on the fi rst day, everyone
wanted to go to bed, but our team gathered together, that was because every group needed to think of a team name
and a team call. Every group member provided a li le idea, really soon we created a perfect team call, and prac ced for
a few mes.
I think the most important thing in this camp was that we have to make a presenta on on the last day of RYLA,
what our group supposed to do was to come up with a topic and design a project. A er many discussions, we decided
to make a project about the Forgo en Children. They are the kids in special classes, because their parents are alcoholic
or possess other problems. We came up with some conclusions of how to help those poor children, and changed them
into a project. It was really hard at the beginning, because there were no samples we could take a look at. But then we
s ll made it, resul ng from our contribu ons, we fi nished a project. Also we made a power point with the skills learned
from the workshop of a really good speech on how to give a wonderful speech. From the process of doing this project, I
learned how to work with others, how to listen to others’ opinions and so on.
Time fl ies. Three days passed away so quickly. I felt really happy that I got the chance to par cipate in RYLA, it was
a really great me. I learned a lot, and also got to know many new friends. I hope that I will be able to use those skills we
learned in these three days in my daily life, and become a good leader in the future.

I really want to thanks to my aunt to give me this chance to join the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp. I am also
wanted to thanks my mom, without her push, I won’t make my determina on to take part. Actually my English turn into
worse and worse since I become a University student. That sounds like an excuse .I really feel shame on me. So I am a
li le bit nervous……NO! There is a lot of nervous to open my mouse to speak English. My mom encourages me that I
should hold this chance to challenge myself. A er all, I decide to try.
First day when I got up to the Na onal Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall sta on I was really scared, but when I meet
my team leader the shadow in my mine is totally fade away. Because my team leader “Tina” give me a big smile and talk
to me friendly. It really warms my heart. Our team members are very outgoing and easy to talk to. We become friends
with each other soon. Through we fi ght for the game , we become more close.
I learned a lot of things in this camp. I really love the speech by 沈芯菱. I heard of her before but didn’t know her
very well. Her speech teaches me do not look down yourselves. Not only love yourselves but also help the person who
needs your help. I’m too small. I have no money, no power, without any resource to help anyone. That’s all excuses. It’s
about what you have; it’s about what you give. Just do it! Every single word she says just pumps my heart. This speech is
really meaningful. It gives me hope and love. I really admire her. To my surprise, she is only twenty-fi ve years old. She is
young but she has already doing so many charitable things. No ma er what ages you are, just do the right things. Then
your life will become more meaningful and colorful.
Another important thing I learn through this camp is “Trust” and “Teamwork” Through the game, I try to trust a
stranger in a short me. When my eyes covered, I really scared to fell. But when my partner holds my hand. I feel relax;
I try my best to hand over my trust to him or her. And my partner did protect me very well. That gives me more confi -
dence walking step by step. To take a turns to me, I do the same thing to my partner. I try my best to lead and protect my
partner not to get hurt. I have to reciproca on my partner’s trust. I fi nally know that.
The most exci ng part is “Walk on the steel wire” I can’t believe that I can walk on that. I don’t trust myself and
my team members at fi rst, but when I saw my members to use their best eff orts to protect us. When I climb on the wood
and start to walk. My legs s ll shake but I’m not afraid, I believe my team members will protect me, so I’m not worry at
all. That’s teamwork!
This camp brings me a lot, and makes friends with a lot of people. Thank you very much RYLA! I have a great me
there.

I am very happy to par cipate in this ac vity in this vaca on. I really obtained so much from RYLA.
I learned a lot from this lecture of how to present the power point such as how to make your presenta on more
vivid, more a rac ve, and more persuasive, and how to avoid these mistakes such as too much sentences, unnecessary
words, overly complex pictures, and so on…and the most important is how to construct your presenta on.
You have to consider your presenta on carefully as you can,
and at the same me you have to think how to keep your report run smoothly,
The service project presenta on deeply inspired me as well. I got a lot of ideas from other friends’, such as the
proposal of CSR (Corporate social responsibility), the proposal of service for the elderly program, the improvement of
environment for increasing the quality of children learning, the remote Community Service Program.
A er listening to these projects, I want to share an experience from my reading, a book.” Why Carnegie is Success-
ful,” by David Black Lung. The book inspires me a lot. He said: “Venture is their favorite thing to do.” However, nowadays,
many people are busy day and nights for pres ge and
money. Earning money and high educa on for diploma constantly. Is this really the life you want to live? In this era
of emphasizing diploma for having more perfect
future, for realizing the expecta on of parents, many people are so desperately
studying. However, to see back to the past a er growing up, He(She) feels that he(she)
really want is not this kind of life. Why did he always live in other people’s expecta ons. There is a saying in the
book :”how you would like to have a life me”, describing the process of inven on of Edison. Although it is hard and dif-
fi cult to invent, it is fun, even one’s favorite, the dream and eager. This s mulates me to think of more carefully. I expect
I can do what I want in my future.
As far as I am concerned, I have the following thoughts. As the saying goes: “Having greater responsibility for the
more weight.” Being a leader is not easy. He(She) has more adventure and risk to face. Entrepreneurs are the leaders
who have the highest status. Regardless of any ma er,
The leader must make a correct decision. The decision is very important for the organiza on. If it is not good, for
lack of proper communica ons. It will result in possibility of risks.
However, as long as by con nuous improvement for reviewing the progress, I do believe that with enthusiasm, we
can make a progress constantly and arrive at the goal of success.
The quality of leader is absolutely important, we have to learn and learn constantly.
Especially about communica on, I realize the importance of par cipa ng in community ac vi es. The most Impor-
tant is learning to handle many ques ons about many things, including interpersonal rela onships and how to get alone
with any people. To sum up, interpersonal rela onships are full of various variables. Accumula ng experience to learn
how to handle, express, and communicate is the almighty road.

Hello, my name is Vinson, I wanted to share my experience about RYLA 2013.
Through three days, I learned a lot and made many good friends. First of all, we went through self-introduc ons
and tournaments to break ice, so we can know each other quickly and establish our team tacits in short me, and to
meet behind more diffi cult challenge. Because each person has diff erent ideas, so I would listen and learn, then we dis-
cussed to research the perfect method to solve the problem.
And we had a party at fi rst night. The staff taught us to dance Waltz so that we can invite ladies or gentleman to
dance and exchange name card to know each other more, by the way, maybe you can meet your Mr./Ms. Right here.
:D
Second, they invited two speakers to share their stories and professional skills with us.
Shen Xing-ling, a girl at our age, but she has achievements more than many young men of the same age. She used
handy tools “internet” to help many people, including building a website to help the people from hometown selling
fruits, and construc ng the educa on website so that the children can learn on the website. She even held a summer
camp and invited university students to teach children who need help, we are at the same age, but our thinking was
much diff erent at all! Another is A-Fu. He was a very professional teacher about briefi ng. He gave us a brilliant lecture
about how to make a successful briefi ng. A good briefi ng may make listeners focus on your report and feel interested.
If you were a great speaker it could let you get the customer’s orders, even win the sponsors of Venture Capital. These
skills and knowledge can make you strong no ma er where you are!
Third, we had a subject about trust, we needed to fi nd a partner and face to face, the one has to make diff erent
movements and the other has to imitate, so you need to focus on your partner or you will make mistakes. Another is that
the one has to mask his eyes and give his hands to the other one, and he needs to follow you to anywhere, of course,
you have to protect him.
Last, we have to make a presenta on in English, it’s the point of the Camp. Our topic is “Use ac vity to defuse in-
diff erence” it means that we have to learn how to help other people, I think it’s a daily subject, but not really easy to do
it, we have to fi nish this presenta on in few hours just like mission impossible! But we chose to believe in each other so
we discussed and listed a lot of methods. Because of our teamwork, everyone exert their specialty and then we fi nished
the impossible presenta on.
This Camp taught me the importance of teamwork, a good team could make it possible that one plus one will be-
come more than two, and a good leader is able to lead the whole team to success.

One day, my father told me that he strongly recommended a winter camp called “RYLA.” I didn’t know any about
the camp. I just knew the camp is about leadership. Therefore, I carried my curiosity and a ended the camp. The mys-
tery tour began.
I fi nally found out that “RYLA” represented “Rotary Youth Leadership Awards” a er I arrived the loca on of our
camp—Aspire Resort. I need to admit that the place is wonderful. It did off er a great fi eld for all of us and did many
ac vi es. During the three days camp, although the camp kept men oning that how important the leadership is, I s ll
didn’t know what leadership is. But I learned another thing that is as important as the leadership called coopera on. As
the 4th group members (Team Orange), we did our best on team work stuff . No one was the leader, we all ac vely done
the work that ourselves good at. For instance, when my team was fi guring out team slogan, some members gave some
ideas as others were using the internet to search for our group. Finally, we gathered all our ideas and fi nished a funny
one. And we all sa sfi ed with the work. This was just a li le example of our coopera on. There were many others in
three days camp. How to do a great team work? I think team orange members must know!!!!
The most impressed things in the camp are the speech of a brave girl and to experience fi rsthand in OBT. First,
the story of the brave girl really moved all the members. She tried all she could do to throw herself on public welfare.
She told me that the meaning of human being’s life. The treasures are not the thing you already have; the treasures will
come from people who you help with. Progress a li le bit every day, you will success in the end. On the other hand, if you
decide not to make any steps, you’ll end with nothing. Second, the experience on the OBT, this ac vity also taught me
about how important the team work. We needed whole group members carefully watch one member back to keep the
member from danger. We needed to gather all our power to support the one who was standing on the high steel rope.
No one can do that work by himself, but all together as a team we could do everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact, my father was once a member of Rotary Interna onal Districts 3520. In my memory, it was a club where
several old man who had a great deal of me and money holding par es all the me; however, not un l I par cipated in
this ac vity did I know I was wrong. There are so much love and feedback behind leadership.
At fi rst, I signed up for the camp since I saw Shen Hsin-Ling as one of the speaker. Also, the slogan caught my
eyes, “God: How do we change the world? Evan: One single act of random kindness at a me.” It was really inspiring.
On the other hand, another reason why I joined the ac vity was that I wanted to do something meaningful and
special. I par cipated in summer camps and held winter camp in high school; nevertheless, I needed some breakthrough
to prove that I had grown up and made good use of my me to learn new things not just playing my days. To my greatest
happiness, indeed, I learned a lot these days.
The interes ng Presenta on Skills lecture taught us how to vivify our presenta on. I think our school teacher
should all listen to this lecture. Besides, we learned how to be a leader and a good team worker, a leader is the one who
has the vision can do the right thing and who has the captain courage can take the risk of trying new things. And I love
the speech of Shen Hsin-Ling most. I always wonder ”What can I do to make a be er world?” - maybe I have to work
hard to be the next Bill Gates so that I have the ability to change the world or even save the world; yet, a er the speech,
I realized that I don’t have to be so greedy that try to change the world. A li le thing that anyone can do can make a
be er world. I really admire Shen Hsin-Ling so so so much. Tears falling down my check, I cried when I heard the story of
her on how a 11 girl started her life full of love and help. Most of all, it was really some kind of experience, broadening
my horizon, like leaving the school and becoming a part of the society. I did have a wonderful me.

I am so glad that I have a chance to join this leadership camp. First day’s game is really fun except for the extremely
cold weather. Second day is a substan al day. The speech that lecturer gave is so impressed. The one of lecturer’s speech
is very touching. She has lots of amazing stories that I am interested in. Another lecturer is talk about how to make a
fabulous presenta on and some ps about it which is so useful. The Brainstorming me is the most stressful me during
this camp. I never thought that I am able to create a project with our team just in 30 minutes, and we had to go in front
of everyone to introduce it. That’s the experience that I never had. The priest had told me that people have more than
500 to 600 abili es which we don’t know we have it.

This camp is absolutely a great chance to inspire poten-
al. This camp is diff erent from the camp I joined before. It is
more educa onal and inspira onal. Although the process had
lots of stress, but it turns out that I can do it. At the end of the
camp, our teamwork fi gured out a project together and we pre-
sented together. Another thing I feel so great is that I male lots
of friends here. First day everyone looked so shy including me,
but through a day everyone was ge ng closer. I remembered
the third day’s Out Bound, we had to trust our partners. It is a
special experience. Usually when we do this ac vity the coach
will control our rope to make sure our safety, but this me we
had to let our partner be the coach who hold the rope. The weird thing is that I usually do not get familiar with strangers
in such a short me. Everyone in my team is easygoing and I am so proud of our team member. I really had a great me
in these three days. I would defi nitely love to join this camp next year.

It was truly an astonished memory for me in the past three days. I have known Rotary Youth Leadership Award
(RYLA) since I was in Taichung Second Senior High school (TCSSH) Interact club. It has been quite a long me since the
fi rst me I met Rotary. I enjoyed all the terrifi c talks in every mee ng.
I also devoted myself in the service project every me I face such as cleaning up the world. That was really a good
experience for me that I can use my own strength to help our mother nature.
In the past three days, I experienced working with a group of elites, opening my own mind when faced with the
people or things I encountered. I adored the two speeches we had on the second day. I was so moved by the story Shen,
Hsin-Ling gave us. And I was so surprised that even she is at the age of 23, she can use her own strength to help so many
people and donate so much all by herself. She gave me many new ways to face things, always look on the bright side. I
am deeply infected by her energe c, posi ve a tude when facing challenges. I simply can s ll remember her words, “It
would be something when doing easy things for a long me.” which encouraged me a lot.
The speech about how to make a good presenta on given by Jeff Wang really gave me a brand new view of pre-
senta on and slide making. “Making a presenta on is not sending the informa on but to convince others.” is one of the
concepts he gave us which I never thought about it before. I usually need to do reports and presenta on at school or
toward others. But I have never thought about how to make my talk be er and how to prepare for that. His interes ng
and rich speech looks like taking li le eff ort on it. In fact, that is because he is well prepared and spends much me on
it. I also learned much from the course that Smart Orange gave us. They taught such as concentrate and focus are always
easy to say it out, but doing it is just another aspect. Through experiencing, they wanted to teach us in person and doing
it directly is much deeper branded in my mind.
Last but not least, knowing many fantas c people is also one of my biggest harvest during the three days. Even
though we didn’t have much me to chat with each other, we s ll keep in touch through the net a er the fabulous three
day adventure.
d thing is that I usually do not get familiar with stranngerst familiar

Because of the Rotary club, I got a chance to a end this ac vity. It was a li le bit scary at fi rst, but my dad told me
that I can do this and I should overcome this. Then, I felt like that I had been pushed to a new place where I can say no
to my weak ability of using English.
We did so many interes ng stuff s such as exci ng brainstorming, listening to an awesome speech, playing lots of
games that needed team-work. It was very impressive when I got to know that 沈芯菱 was actually a charity sponsor at
the age of 23. She started to do it since she was eleven. And then 福哥, he taught us how to make an six-minute power
point. I learnt a lot from that.
The most impressive one was team-uniform presenta on. In fact, there was not much me to discuss with each
co-worker, so everyone tried so hard to come out with some ideas by staying up late. And it came out to be a good piece.
I think it awesome to do all the tasks with my friends. It’s worth staying up late.
Time really fl ies in three days of RYLA. And It was fi lled with abundance, excitement, and magnifi cence. Thanks to
the people who support us and off er us this opportunity to join this wonderful ac vity.

Recalling of these three days, I met a lot of new friends, learned how to use exis ng resources to complete the task,
team spirit, trust and challenged myself to complete fi nal presenta on. This 3-days camp is diffi cult for me because my
English is not good.
But I believe that no pains, no gains. l learned experience and even more impressive part is team work with my
team mates. How to trust teammates and make them believe me as well?
In preparing for presenta on and diff erent tasks, we learned the spirit of team work from RYLA this year. These
moments are really good memories to me. Everyone expressed their ideas and then we discussed with each other. Of
course, we had some diff erent opinions. However, we would communicate and draw out the fi nal conclusion. Although
we had diff erent ac vi es every day and were asked to complete in limited me, it was ring but worthwhile.
In lectures on charity, I was impressed by沈芯菱. She is at our age, but displays ambi on beyond usual. Look at
other people, let’s think about whether we can put out a hand to help others without asking for anything. Another
speaker, Jeff 福哥 ‘s speech, his presenta on allows us to understand clearly. This one-hour speech concluded that
prepara on is a very important work. Thank RYLA staff ’s guidance in these three days. See you next me!!!

A er ge ng on the tour bus, I felt I’ll have a nice camp. On the bus, we introduced ourselves, and we recognized
each other. The fi rst ac vity was a kind of team game, I thought we would be disadvantage for a start, but later our team
was united then we got through each game smoothly. In the evening, the dance party’s atmosphere was very high, I
have been more courageous to talk to strangers forwardly by changing visi ng card, and the snack me was wonderful.
The second day, our team slogan performance let us be more united. A er the lecture, I felt I had learned a lot. Though
I nearly fell asleep when listening to uncle’s speech. Shen, Hsing-Ling’s lecture let us see the beauty of some Taiwan
places, things, and people. We may be reckless, but I thought that she was good to help somebody who needed help.
A er her lecture, meanwhile, I had had my life plan before twenty years old. Jeff Wang’s lecture taught us how to make
a good PPT and how to be a good speaker, this lecture was important to us, he corrected my PPT mistakes very much.
The game in a ernoon let me realize more about the leadership. The pressure compe on was a way to see every
member’s par cipa on and discussing of their own accord. Every team spoke English smoothly, and it made me feel the
importance of English. The last day, we went rock climbing, it let me learn to believe teammates and I can’t give up easily
when I face anything. The performance of presenta on was a touched moment because everyone prepared even in the
midnight. I didn’t provide a lot of idea, but my teammates were very superior that we could fi nish the proposal. I thought
I would need to learn more about an aspect of proposal.
A er three days and two nights camp, I was very happy and felt good, but what is the most important was that I
had learned a lot. I learned if I were a person who leaded or to be leaded, what’s the advantage and shortcomings of
teammates, and l could take it as my model. I learned a lot and became more mature. Finally, I must need to thank all
staff of Rotaract clubs. If I have a chance, I would join this camp again. This memory is unforge able.

Impression & AdviceThough RYLA leadership camp this year was held by the Rotaractors,
comparing with the one two years ago, it was more impressive to me. Since I
had joined before, I had more expecta ons for RYLA this year. As the schedule
design, it was very diff erent from last me.
I think it’s a pity that the self-introduc on got canceled this year. Due
to the fi nal exam, I couldn’t a end the camp ll night. Though, I had heard
from other teammates that they were kind of disappointed about making the
self-introduc on card for nothing. However, I really like the idea of the design
to exchange our own business cards. It made me think of the REP program. I
was
one of the YEP from 2010 to 2011, and I was grateful to the Rotary Club
of the business card idea a lot then. It made every exchange students get
along with people much sooner!
As the tempo of the run-down, was really orderly, compact and was almost without any mistakes. Nevertheless, I
s ll consider that the schedule was some mes too ght for the Rylarians, which some mes made pressure and tension
on us. In the other hand, it also showed how well-prepared the Rotaractors were.
First day, I learned a lot, especially from the presenta ons, they were very delicate and the speakers are skilled and
in a great standard. The second day was also a memorable experience of outdoor ac vi es. The Rotaractor might have
spent a lot of eff ort on it to make all the Rylarians par cipate in such an extreme sport all together.
Overall, I can see the hard-working by the Rotaractors of District 3480 this year, and how they cooperated with all
Rotarians and diff erent organiza ons. It’s a pleasure to join RYLA again this year. Hopefully, I will get the opportunity to
par cipate in the Rotaract club to make some eff ort to the RYLA camp.

It’s my second me to a end this wonderful ac vity, RYLA. I think it’s a special experience because this camp was
held in English, including team building, leader’s night, keynote speech, workshop, ac on learning, group discussion,
outward bound and presenta on.
In the beginning, everyone is unfamiliar. A er three-day events, we are more and more familiar with each other.
Three of the most impressive event is ac on learning, and then in this part we can learn ourselves through the interest-
ing ac vity. We are so red because this learning let us to move our body all the me and experience such a great mean-
ings. Another is the lecture which is held by Jeff . He is a man who engaged in corporate training for more than 10 years
for domes c enterprises, universi es and colleges. He used his excellent personality to tell as why the presenta on is
so important. In addi on, he told us how to give a good presenta on and what should be pay a en on to. The other is
outward bound Taiwan. It provides various outdoor experien al courses and promotes the spirit of outward bound edu-
ca on. In this sec on, we go outside and try to take an extreme sport. In our team, we chose the rock climbing. During
the rock climbing, we learn how to protect our partners from hurt, and help each other to climb the top.

It was so great that I can par cipate in RYLA. I learned more in this winter camp. Before the ac vity, I felt so ner-
vous that I didn’t know everyone in my team. But when we got together, we are just like old friends. I was so lucky to
be a member of “green raincoat”. We had some games on the fi rst day and it was really cold in a ernoon that I couldn’t
even move my fi nger. However we did our best and cooperated with each other to fi nish it. The most important is the
teamwork in this ac vity. Having the ball on the fi rst night, it was a li le embarrassing to dance with strangers. And it
was the me to exchange name cards, this was the opportunity to meet new friends. So I was ac ve to take courage to
introduce myself and made friends.
On the second day, the fi rst speech about a girl how to help people really inspired me and I respected her. I think
this is the most awesome speech that I have had. The second speaker who talked about how to make a great presenta-
on was so humorous and interes ng, I loved his way to teach. It made more fun in learning. The brain storming in the
night was so diffi cult because we just had thirty minutes to fi gure out the promo on strategies of our service program
and drew the framework. Through the teamwork and discussion, I think our promo on was much greater than others. I
learned a lot from my partners though this task.
In this camp, I challenged myself incessantly. I was spontaneous to make English speech for our presenta on twice.
Although my English is not very well, I tried to do something diff erent to make me be er. When I was standby to present,
I felt really nervous, anxious and afraid of forge ng my contents. A er the report, I felt happy that I improved. I also
went rock climbing and I couldn’t believe I do it un l now. Because of my willpower and the partner’s encouragement, I
thought I won’t succeed this mission. And this is the part of camp that I loved. It was really happy to join the camp this
me. I will cherish this experience and keep in touch with the people I met. I learn to be a leader not only the abili es
but also corpora on. I wish that I can be be er person in future.

I was happy to join Rotary Youth Leadership Awards to be a Rylarian this year. It was a great experience to me :)
At the beginning, I didn’t want to go because I was not a very outgoing girl. But my dad and the Rotarian in our rotary
encouraged me to try new things, I decided to break though myself.
I was happy to meet my team members - Green raincoat and the leader - Ranko! All of them were awesome. Ev-
eryone was cute, nice and crea ve!
Lots of things that I did in these three days were unforge able. Especially the third day, the OBT ac vity and the
last presenta on were so cool.
In the morning of the third day, we woke up early and went to the OBT place. Our team was going to challenge rock
climbing. Actually I was so nervous, suspec ng myself whether I could make it or not when my team member was climb-
ing. It’s my turn. I tried hard to climb to the top. I did it! I was SO excited! It made me learn that everything is possible,
just try it, then you can see your amazing limit. I did love the OBT. You could see every group did the team work so well
and Everyone was brave when they were challenging!
And the last ac vity was a presenta on for every group. Every group tried very hard to make their presenta on
perfect. Of course our group included. We stayed up so late last night (about 4a.m). At the a ernoon, we did make a
good presenta on although we didn’t fi nish in the me.
At the end of these three days, we awarded for the best group and the MVP leader. Although our group didn’t get
the award, I was s ll proud of them! It was amazing in these days. I learned lots of things about leadership and made
many friends. Thanks rotary for holding this great ac vity for us. Also thanks lots of staff for taking take care of us
the moment when I
climbed to the top :D my awesome group members!!

I am so glad to have this chance to a end such an unforge able three-day camp. I remember the fi rst day when we
were playing games together, I learned how important team work is. My teammate from “Green Raincoat” all worked
together and played as a team. Although it was our fi rst me mee ng each other but it felt like we have been known
each other for a long me. Second day of the camp, there were two amazing speakers giving us speeches. A er 沈芯菱’s
speech, I feel like I am the luckiest girl in the en re world. Although She is young, but she helped so many people who
suff er from the poverty, orphanage and whoever needs help. I learned that we can try our best to make the world be er,
even though it’s a ny li le move. The second speaker taught us how to produce a great presenta on by using power
point. This speech is very useful because we have tons of presenta ons in our life. The last day of the camp, we went
rock climbing. It was all about challenging ourselves. Every me when we stock in somewhere, we stop or keep looking
and keep trying to fi nd solu ons? I am so pleasure to have this chance to learn so much knowledge during these three
days. Thank you uncles, aun es and all the staff s!

I have heard about RYLA for more than 4 years since I joined the Taipei Banga Rotaract Club. However, I didn’t have
the chance to get to know it un l this year. When I received the confi rma on le er that I was qualifi ed to par cipate in
this meaningful campaign, I was really excited and glad to experience leadership in a full-English environment.
The thing impressed me most in this 3-days ac vity is our team partners. I was lucky enough to work with them, of
course include our facilitator, Ranko. Thanks to all of them, so we could fi nish our appoint jobs and projects smoothly. Ev-
eryone was enthusias c and volunteered to do what they could do in ac vi es. No one was le out and selfi sh. Although
I were the elder one in our team, but I s ll learned a lot from them. For example, we had a project which we were going
to address our community plan in the last day, we just slept around two hours in the night before the presenta on. We
worked and discussed together and then did the work we were expected to fi nish, we were working un l 4:00 in the
morning. The only thing we wanted to achieve was to give a perfect presenta on in the next day. Nobody complained
and fought to each other. Of course, we had diff erent opinion some mes, but we solved it by reasonable nego a on
and followed the instruc on of the leaders for each ac vity. Everyone played good role to be leaders and fellows at dif-
ferent mes.
Except for the team work, I also got to know myself be er a er RYLA. Previously, I thought I was not person who
are eager to win un l I experienced rock climbing. It was the fi rst me I went rock climbing. In the beginning, it was not
diffi cult at all, so I moved upward easily. When climbing to the middle height, I had problem to fi nd suitable rocks to hold
and stepped on, in the mean me I became more and more red. I should have give up at that situa on, but I wouldn’t.
Instead, there was a voice from my heart to encourage me and push me to conquer all diffi cul es and reach the top. I
have never known I could have the ability to go through hard me and my tough will inspired myself to win and achieve
the goal, so I became more confi dent on myself now.
I am really appreciated that I had the chance to a end RYLA in 2013. I am not only making many good friends there
but also learn and experience a lot from team work and improve myself. I will strongly recommend all my friends to
par cipate in RYLA, as it is really a very meaningful campaign and everything learned from RYLA is useful forever. Finally,
I would like to thank to Rotary Club of 3480 district, RYLA facilitators & Rylarians. All these achieve something awesome
and I will never forget!

This was the fi rst me that I took part in RYLA, and I felt very amazed and helpful for my life.
At fi rst, I was a li le nervous due to my age. I thought that there would be some estrangement between everyone
and me, but I was wrong, and everyone was kind and enthusias c.
I like all of the Rylarians so much and also every ac vity. The fi rst ac vity — ice breaking games, I was so surprised
that everyone was so generous, and our team was so great and in a good rela onship. It was a good start for me. We
started another ac vity immediately — outdoor games, It was a good way for our team to get closer. Although we were
not the fi rst team to get there, we were s ll the fi rst team to start the game. At the beginning and the end, we had a lot
of passion, and our team was in a good shape. Although we were not the winners, and had some hard me fi guring out
the key to the puzzle, we s ll showed that “A friend in need is a friend indeed ” during the games and also came up with
the team name — Red Heart, and had a lot of fun without arguing instead .
Next on — Welcome Party! Thank you for preparing the fantas c party, and each part was so good that we really
enjoyed a lot and met more people then. The next day was our me to show our team style — “Red Heart Red Heart we
are Red Heart Red Heart share hopes Red Heart share loves We are Rylarians we share hopes. We are Rylarain we share
loves Red Heart Red Heart we have power Red Heart Red Heart we are winners” I love my team a lot surely, and for me
we are the best! I also saw every team’s anima on, and everyone was welcomed with applause at that me.
Keynote speech— I really liked the speeches a lot , and I learned that no ma er how old you are, you s ll can do
your best to help the people in need. While沈芯菱showed the pictures, I felt these were so valuable that I felt tears fall-
ing down my face. I think I will give others help every moment I see in my life from now on. The other speech also gave
me a lot of benefi ts indeed.
I will keep 福哥’s words in mind, and I am sure that will help me a lot in the future .Thank you all for giving us those
perfect speeches!
47
Smart Orange games me lots of energy and also thought a lot and learned how to be a leader and how to be the
person to follow the leader. I will do my best to be the leader or to help the leader. At night everyone came up with many
good ideas and those were so innova ve. I was so proud of my team! And we really worked so hard in the evening.
The last day —Outward Bound Taiwan! It was so scary! Although I didn’t walk to the fi nal place, I s ll thought It
was a good experience, and thank to my team a lot .I just want to say they are the best! The fi nal ac vity was the me
for our team to show our ideas to everyone! I knew the me was not enough, but I s ll thought we did a good job! And
we were so hard-working. I really want to make our idea come true in the future!
Thank you for preparing many things for us , and thank to our facilitator, Samuel, he gave us a lot of passion and
accompanied us, and thank to my lovely team members! I like all of them so much! If there will be another opportunity
, I really want to join RYLA in the future!
Thank you so much!
林冠余
I’m Charlo e Lin. My Group is “Red Heart.” I’m so proud of being one of them.
I’m honored to have won Leader award. I want to thank my family and Rotary give me this chance to learn and
serve.
The fi rst day we had group ac vity. During this ac vity I found out that everyone has their own talent. Someone
may be good at logic and others might be good at math. That’s why we call a Group. We use our own talent to make our
group be er. In conclusion, if you think your ability is good enough and you want to do anything by yourself and you are
wrong. In this age we must learn how to work with others and make one plus one equal more than two.
The second day, I’m the leader of our team cheering in Opening Ceremony. I have already wri en out our lyrics
and s ll thought about the ac on. A er the last ac vity, we took bath as fast as possible and gathered. We discussed
the ac on and changed the lyrics more than three mes. I want to add the lyrics which is “We are Rylarians! We share
hopes! We are Rylarians! We share love!” But the diffi cult part is the ac on and the ending. We keep changing, everyone
had their own ideas and the atmosphere was really weird. Because it was almost 1:30 and me to go to sleep. I promised
everyone that we would fi nish before 2:00 am and I said, “Everyone wants to have a perfect performance and I know we
can do it. Trust yourself and we can make it.” Suddenly I got the feeling from everyone eyes, saying that we want to win.
We are Red Heart. I really love our team.
The third day, the last but not least, not only outward bound ac vi es but also fi nal presenta on. Outward bound
really scared me! I never climbed that high and walked to the end. The most diffi cult part is that you have to conquer
your fear from heart and over stride the other team member. You two have to co-ordina on. In the end, we had some
conclusion. In the future, we must have good health. If you don’t, you can’t do anything. Second, you have to trust your
team. They will help you and support you un l the end. The fi nal presenta on is a perfect ending. We went through
brainstorming and worked together un l 3 a.m. Our leader Albert distributed all the work to us. We have rehearsed
many mes to control the me. Not too long or too short. We have discussed seriously that we really want to do this to
help those homeless people.
I’m so lucky to have three wonderful days. In the end, I want to thank our facilitator Samuel. He let us try to be a
leader by only giving us sugges on, not making decision for us. The most important people I want to thank are Rotarians
and RYLA staff . We won’t have this great ac vity without your help. Thank you.

The three-day RYLA, live well, eat well, be er curriculum planning, I feel fully the inten on of the General Assem-
bly, with the hard work of the staff . Although not much opportunity to be together with all members, but to challenge
the limits of self, the members mutual aid in the process, I am quite moved, we all get along very enjoyable. Also thanks
to the Rotary Club of recommenda on, giving me the opportunity to par cipate in meaningful ac vi es. In this short
span of three days, I know a lot of diff erent friends, and with everyone brainstorming, learning a tude towards life as
well as many posi ve aspires story in a diff erent speech, and the teamwork Outwart Bound. I Would like to thank all the
staff , so that we have such a posi ve and full of educa onal RYLA, To the three-day ac vi es of RYLA, I learned a lot, but
it is really quite ring, very grateful to the hard work staff .The three days in RYLA I learned how to be a good leader, when
the leaders of their own lives, in addi on to the subtle infl uence others, the most important thing they have to predict
with confi dence in their own direc on, toward their own goals to move ahead. I am honored to be able to par cipate
in the ac vi es of RYLA, three days of the trip is very exci ng .Ul mately, it is once again to thank all the staff ,thank you
very much,RYLA!
陳奕廷
It’s very rush for me to par cipate RYLA because I was having my fi nal exam at 1/18, and I have to join my team
while missing the ice –breaking me. But it turns out no one mind my absence in previous ac vi es and willing to accept
me.
During these three days in the aspiring park with my teammates, I learned how to lead and be leaded. My fi rst day
in RYLA is quite strange cause I joined the team vot from the beginning but from half if the progress. But I try my best to
fi t in and have great work and everyone accept me.
In the second day of RYLA, we listened to two speeches from 沈芯菱, who is a girl doing one person social ser-
vice, and 福哥, an awesome man with great presenta on skill., they both gave me unique and diff erent infl uence. 沈芯
菱’s presenta on gave me the idea that community service can be done with one person’s power, it’s not always need
huge resources to accomplish community service and could start in a very simple way. I like 福哥’s presenta on most
because he is very professional and dedicate himself in to presenta on training. He knows exactly how to prepare and
present a good presenta on, and that’s what necessary for us for presenta ons skill is ge ng more and more important
these days.
The third day in RLYA was the most challenging day. We had to do the presenta on about our service project and
do the OBT. Comparing to the OBT we did in the morning, the presenta on in a ernoon was just a piece of cake. The
OBT we did was quit scary, it needed not only good balance in body but also lots of trust in other teammates. This ac v-
ity made me realize my weakness and push myself to my own limit. The presenta on was a hard task too, but it’s not
hard for individual team member. It’s challenging our teamwork and me management, but we s ll fi nished it with our
ul mate eff ort.
49
To sum up, I realize more about leadership, teamwork, presenta on skill and most important of all, I made some
new friends and met many new people. These three days had become one of the best periods in my life, and I hope my
the members can become life-long friends.
鄭兆琦
I deeply appreciated to spend three days in ryla. There are several ac vi es in this challenging program, including
team building, inspira onal speeches, leadership training, outward bound, social ac vi es and so on. They could
enhance our personal development, leadership skills and good ci zenship.
During the fi rst day, we played a game that could help our team members get closer. By discussing and coming up
with any ideas, we knew one another and became friends. In addi on, we joined a fantas c party with a cool band at
the night. Everyone was crazy, especially me! I really had fun then and I always can not forget how happy we were. When
the party ended, I thought we could go back our rooms to sleep since we all were exhausted. However we got to work
to decide the slogan of our team. We did not sleep un l 2 a.m.
In the second day, we ignored the annoying morning call due to our ring but we s ll woke up at 7 o’clock to have
breakfast. In the following, We met two speakers, one was a girl who devotes herself to helping local farmers and disad-
vantaged kids showed what she gained from the journeys of service, the other was a man who taught us how to give a
professional presenta on to a ract people’s a en on. Both speeches were excellent and I enjoyed it. A er all ac vi es
were over, I knew we could not sleep early again since the compe ve presenta on.
In the fi nally day, we par cipated in a character unforge able building program called OBT, which focuses on lead-
ership, communica on, and trust. During this ac vity, I helped others who faced troubles, kept members ‘lives, and told
myself that I could do it. I was proud that I was the only woman to complete the job within my team. In the a ernoon,
there was the most excited part during this camp. I thought every team did a great job since we accomplished the pre-
senta on in li le me. We tried our best with all eff orts and felt sa sfi ed with that.
Thanks to ryla,I would have the opportunity to exchange ideas about service ideas and discuss leadership with oth-
ers. I also learned how to lead and how to be led through those games. It is worth to a end and make my life diff erent.

ma c report we use to the mental, physical, and we need to put forward ideas. We par cipate in the report, in order to
arrive at the des na on.
We are very grateful to the members of the
Rotary Club and the two days that all staff . In these
two days, they take care of us. To make we this ac v-
ity event be er. In the game I get a lot of experience
and knowledge, and they use of the grouping, game,
and formal ceremonies et cetera. So we know more
about the spirit of the Rotary
In Rotary I get actual experience to under-
stand. I think this is a very worthwhile to par cipate
in the ac vi es, and have the memories. And get the
experience, and is also a most worthy memorable.

At fi rst, I thought it was just like other camps that I joined before. The camps I joined before were just having
fun. However, it was diff erent. I learned a lot and broadened my horizons. All the ac vi es that I joined really improved
my abili es. Followings are some ac vi es I really liked during this three-day camp.
Team Building in the fi rst day is really diffi cult but impressive to me deeply. We had to fi gure out the clue answers
by ourselves even rack our brains to solve the ques ons. Since our members come from diff erent schools and study in
diff erent majors, we learned from each other. Then, we worked in a team and experienced what coopera on is. Through
the games, we promoted our feelings to each other.
The second one is Ac on Learning. It looked like playing some games, and just having for fun. However, the ac vi-
es did help us pay a en on and try to believe in others. When my eyes were blindfolded, I had no choice but to trust
the one who held my hands. The one who held my hands lead me walk through people. Also, the ac vi es helped me
to show myself bravely. I was pre y shy and afraid of performing in front of everyone, but I changed when I was playing
this game. I think good leaders should have the courage to express themselves. Therefore, I should con nue to try hard
to change.
Outward Bound in the third day was really a trial. I have had acrophobia for a long me, and, however, the ac vi-
es are all high and exci ng. Even though I was scared, I didn’t think of giving up. The reason I par cipated in the camp
is that I wanted to change, so I tried. Eventually, I didn’t complete all the ac vity. I s ll made a break-through. Therefore,
my goal is to fi nish it next me.
52
What is peace? We considered it a big problem when we were preparing the presenta on. I really learned many
things through this ac vity. My members have joined in many special ac vi es that I have had never experienced, such
as helping poor students in remote districts. This really broadened my horizons. Besides, the skills 福哥 taught and the
stories of the speakers impressed me much, and I think my life will become a li le diff erent.
In the end, I think it was precious experience, and I will remember it forever. All the ac vi es in the camp were
interes ng and useful. In the future, I will use the skills I learned during this camp, and then improve myself.

When I knew the camp, RYLA, I was very interested because I wanted to learn about what leadership is. This is not
to learn in the class. So, it was a very rare chance for me. Actually, it was really a valuable experience for me. In the camp,
English is a must so well. Staff s or speakers almost speak English in the camp. My English is poor, but I s ll not afraid and
I try to speak English which is a challenge for me. I also want to improve my English a er coming back from the camp.
沈芯菱is a 20s. But she has done a lot of things in Taiwan. She does not come from the rich family. She just uses
informa on eff ec ve, and has an enthusias c heart. She told “Impossible equal I’m possible”. It is a very encouragement
for me. Because I am afraid to do something which I never tried to. She also told us that our life only lasts about 900
months, not to men on our elder parents. And to do a li le something every day, then you will be a great man in the
future. The success is bringing to other people benefi t, or it is just an appetence.
The speaker福哥 taught us the skills of PPT. He pointed that most people made presenta on in a wrong way. He
taught us how to make a good PPT, and he showed us the diff erence from the PPT by Jobs and Bill Gates. I think that most
people know their PTTs are so boring, but they do not know how to improve it. He told that PTT is to persuade other
people. The speech of福哥 and 沈芯菱 are so good. They told us the things which we do not ever think.
Ac on learning let me realiza on if you want to be a leader, you will fi rst believe yourself and relaxa on. Because
relax is to believe. The OBT is great. It is an expensive experience for me. It let me learn the thing that I must believe my
team. Even if you can do everything, but you s ll cannot do it well. When you want to do something, your fi rst step is
most diffi cult. It is a challenge for you. But, when you start to do it, you will fi nd it is easy. I learn the thing is do not be
afraid anything and trust my team by the OBT.
The camp is very good. I learned a lot of things from this camp. And I fi nd the reason why I am afraid of being a
leader. I also knew a lot of new friends in the camp. The hotel which we lived is very good and its food is delicious.

Self-growth and personal achievement
Three-day camping enables me to have the chances of self-discovery, overcome fears and challenge, communicate
with partners with diff erent talents and personal traits. This was my very fi rst me to par cipate in the ac vity held by
the rotary club, and I was amazed by delicate food and environment with high quality! The idea of collec ng the materi-
als for badges was funny, and each team was really crea ve though the design and process of the game is quite com-
plicated and lengthy. Due to the chilly and cold weather, I will suggest that the me of the game should be shortened.
Another point I wanted to men on was that when I received such informa on of a leadership and service camp, I was
really looking forward to it and expec ng it to create a whole English-speaking environment. However, I have to say, I was
kind of disappointed when realizing that not all the members including the staff s and par cipants acquired good English
profi ciency. Therefore, I didn’t enjoy the English part of this camp.
S ll, I’ve learned a lot and gained a valuable experience through this camp. First of all, I really liked the speech given
by Shen Hsin Ling. Not only her personal striving stories but her presenta on skills surprised and enlightened me. She
was so inspiring and her way of speaking was very appealing and a rac ve. This speech was the most expec ng course
before I went to the camp, and so as a er the camp. I also enjoy the expressive way presented by 福哥. Presenta on
skills are crucial to everyone, I feltlucky to have heard his sharing and teaching in such young age. Besides, He himself is
the best example to demonstrate the prac cal methods on making a wonderful Power point.
Second, regarding ac on learning session, even though I have already experienced several parts of the ac vity
such as mirror prac ce, which is to imitate your partner’s every single movement to focus on observa on, other ac vi-
es like blindfolded interac on, was really engaging and I love it! For the night party, it provided us with a pla orm to
exchange name cards and make friends with other teams which was a well-designed ac vity. However, regarding the
concert presented by the band, to be honest, it was too loud and noisy for my ears. Therefore, I didn’t really merge with
the atmosphere but to chat with my group members and enjoyed the snacks in the mean me.
Third, coming to the most unforge able experience encountered in this camp, there are two parts. One is the
service project presenta on including brainstorming, and another is OBT on the last day. Our team didn’t come up with
complete structures before the camp because most of the team members were s ll struggling and fi gh ng with the fi nal
examina on. We had a discussion on the fi rst night, and it took us so much me to fi gure out all sorts of opinions and
sugges ons from the team members. Fortunately, we had a brief structure and clear central idea agreed by everyone. I
like the spirit of our teamwork because each member was all ac ve to discuss and provide be er op ons for the project.
That’s why we didn’t stay up late to fi nish the presenta on. Few of the team members were really crea ve and talented,
and I believed that all of us have improved a lot on the communica on skills, so it was really a great experience to co-
operate with them! Thanks to the opportunity given by my team, I was responsible for presen ng the fi nal project to
everybody. It was a valuable chance to apply skills we’ve learned in courses into prac ce.
When it comes to OBT, to tell the truth, I was very scared when I heard that. A er several of my team members
have already tried and there was no concern for safety, I told myself to be brave and defeat the devil in my heart. I was
in panic during the experience, but all of my team members were so suppor ve that I felt very encouraged; therefore I
succeeded to overcome the fear and challenge with the support and encouragement of my team members.
54
In conclusion, thanks to the various courses that was so well-designed to help me discover my inner self and face
and overcome the fear of physical challenge. Most important of all, I love all of my team members! Finally, I want to pres-
ent my highest regards and apprecia on to all the staff s of Rotaracts, thank you all for giving me such amazing, fabulous,
and unforge able camp memories!
陳宥臻
I registered for RYLA, because of a Rotaract’s friend’s introduc on. I have been considering for a long me before
deciding to par cipate in. I feared the environment of all English, and the me of the ac vity is just the fi nal exam on the
last day. Finally, the curiosity overcame fear, I par cipated in this ac vity with an open mind.
I was in the eighth squad, each of the team members is from diff erent universi es in diff erent fi elds of study. In the
fi rst day of the team building, I established a good rela onship with the team members. Keynote Speech Speaker Shen
Hsin-ling said: “An unhappy person, never thought to bring othershappiness”, she is happy, because she has been look-
ing for ways to help others. But the diffi cul es, she said,” the real problem is not diffi cult, but the a tude” if we really
want, will certainly be able to think of a solu on. And perseverance, she said “If we do simple things for a long me, it
becomes not simple at all”. In her, I saw a beau ful spirit that comes out from the heart of kindness and beauty. I want
to learn her spirit. The saying goes, “helping and serving others is the founda on of happiness”. I want to be like her and
become a happy person.
For Ac on Learning In the a ernoon of the second day, by movement of the body, I truly can appreciate the dif-
ference, in team, the role played by the leaders and members. Leaders should understand the characteris cs of each
member, then make appropriate distribu on of work, but also have enough enthusiasm to lead the members to work
together. Members have to wholeheartedly accept the leader’s instruc ons, and refl ect the doubts immediately.
OBT on the third morning, our squad is assigned to take the vine road. This ac vity truly made me able to under-
stand the importance of the members. When you walked in high, you can only completely believe the members, because
your life will be entrusted to them. They encourage you on the ground, you rely on their encouragement and your perse-
verance to move forward step by step. When you fi nished all the ghtrope, they gave big applause to you, and you will
not be arrogant, because without them, you will not make it possible.
My English is not very good, but I’m glad I had the courage to enroll in RYLA. I did not only make progress in English,
but also learned a lot of things, and met many good friends. Thank you for RYLA giving me this opportunity to par cipate
in ac vi es. And I will recommend my friends to enroll in the next RYLA.

Before I signed up for this camp, I know it is a half Chinese and English camp, so this made me want to go to the
camp. On the second day, when all the staff talked to us in English, it felt great. But between members we actually speak
in Chinese. This can only be trained hearing, and we can’t really enjoy English in camp.
This two keynote speakers are great. I vividly remembered Shin-Lin Chen’s speech. I was amazed, when she spoke.
For 23-year-old youth, it’s very admirable that she can easily perform to hundreds of audience. I think this is the fi rst
thing I want to learn and be able to accumulate experience a erwards.
Self-Breakthrough, like what her said ‘’I’mpossible.’’
I really enjoyed her personal striving stories and her presenta on skills. The Power Point skills of Jeff ’s speech were
also very exci ng and very useful to us in college. They let me know more clearly Power Point landmines. His speech is
not only just a speech, but also a great examples presented in front of me.
Outward Bound makes me the most impressive. Our team is to challenge the
‘’蔓藤路.’’I was afraid, when I am wai ng. Because my team member legs turned into jelly when walking on the
cable. I s ll remembered that my team member asked me. “Why do not let the instructor be the ensuring staff ?” I an-
swered her:「I don’t know.」 However, when I climbed the ladder, I was s ll very nervous. But when I stepped on the
rope, I completely became nervous because I knew I would be very safe. When we circled around to each other and
discussed what we learned from this ac vity. Then, I answered without thinking. ”Being brave to do it and believe the
team.”I am deeply touched. I also know that why they wanted to call the members to be the ensure staff at the same
me.
The third day, the English presenta on made me learn that a good achievement did not just rely on their own, but
rely on the team of the division of labor. The fi rst night, let’s put our heads together, we have decided to theme, and had
also been assigned to each of the range. At the same me, it also let me see what I can learn from other members
Finally, I am very glad I had the opportunity to par cipate in RYLA, I had more Self-Breakthrough, and thanks to
the Rotactor Clubs for organizing such a great camp, and let me learn leadership skills and meet a lot of new friends,
and many diff erent experiences as well. The most important thing is that I would also like to thank my team members,
as well as all the staff .

RYLA was an amazing camp which let me learn a lots of things, including the skills of learning how to be a leader,
how to make a presenta on with your teammates and how to cooperate with diff erent people.
The fi nal exam fell on the fi rst day of the camp, I didn`t join the ac vity in the a ernoon. I started my camp from
making my own shoulder patch. We put on diff erent kinds of element to design our unique shoulder patch. A er we
56
fi nished the shoulder patch and dinner, we had an evening party. This party let me learn how to dance with others, trying
to changed calling cards and make friends with diff erent people.
In the second day, we started our ac vi es by each group’s team slogan. This opening let me see many kinds of
team slogans and some of them were so interes ng that I admired their crea on. A er the opening ceremony, we had
two fantas c speeches. Both of them let me learn many things. First speaker who was the youth philanthropist that
helped many growers and farmers sell the crops which they could not sell out. I learned some important opinions from
her speech, for example, no ma er how old you are or how infeasible the target which you are going to do is, just did
it and you could fi nd out the way to achieve your goal. Second speaker, he taught us how to make a great briefi ng. He
taught us some skills to perform our report and how to catch the audience interest. Those skills were very useful for me
to use in my study or use in the work in the future. In the ac on learning, the trainers used many kinds of ac vi es and
games to help us learn how to be a leader or to be lead. In those ac vi es, one of them let me know how to be relaxed
in any me. The brainstorming at night was a chance to let us try to make a short presenta on in a short me. In this
case, I saw the importance of team work.
In the last day, we had the fi nal presenta on and
the outward bound. Both of the ac vi es let me learn
to cooperate with my teammates and how to be a good
leader or be lead. RYLA was the camp which let me learn
so many things and make many new friends. Thanks to
RYLA and it was a wonderful experience.
劉誌翔
Each photo has its story. In the beginning, I think RYLA is an ordinary winter camp but I am wrong. A er three days
ac vity, I not just enjoyed camp also learned more skills.
In the bus, we are full of happiness and curiosity. We enjoyed the game at the bus. We don’t know what will hap-
pen a er leaving bus but we think it is a good journey.
I love party and group games. They let us know each team member and make us closely. I like our team. Because
they are special and have special ability in diff erent ways. Each member shows his ability when we need. The best leader
not just shows his ability, he has to be good at mo va ng the people, put them in best posi ons and encourage them.
Shin-Lin Shen’s presenta on encouraged me a lot. Most people don’t know her but I have heard her for a long
me. She is a great man in this age. She does a lot of things for farmer and children. Helping farmers to sell fruit, and let
children learn more knowledge. She spreads her love to everybody. I like her views of life, we should use our le me to
love our family, friends and ourselves. You can earn a lot of money but you can’t buy your soul and me. The presenta-
on opens my eyes and makes me think about myself. What I want to do in my life.
The last day, outward bound ac vity is exci ng ac vity. I seldom trusted people in my life. In this ac vity you must
trust your team and yourself. Otherwise, the most important thing is that you must overcome fear! I am very afraid of
the height ac vity.
It is an obstacle in my mind. Volunteering is the best way to improve myself. So I do. I am very scared at the line but
I always received encouragement from my team members.
57
My heart is full of power to overcome this challenge at that me.
A er fi nal report, I think deeply what I learned in this camp. It is a worthy ac vity.
I want to thank Taipei Banga Rotaract Club for providing this chance, my team member and staff s. If I did not join
RYLA, I never know what team work is and my weakness. The camp is full of passion and fun, I hope I can enjoy again.
陳怡君
I have a dream, because of RYLA. Team8 Chen I Chun
I am happy to share with you today about what will go down in my life as the greatest learning experience for
leadership.
I have a dream today, because of RYLA. It is a dream deeply rooted in my mind for years. Un l this camp, I spoke
out the dream and had strong faith to make it come true.
I have a dream that one day the service teams, which off er their support and hold the learning camp for those
elementary school children in remote areas, can understand what they really need and off er the right thing. I have a
dream that one day the teaching materials from service teams can be integrated and mutually share through the website
which we established. I have a dream that one day the service teams can use “evalua on sheet” as reference to improve
the equality of teaching. This is my hope. This is my faith. How to make it into prac ce?
Thanks to the learning courses from RYLA. Learning how to conduct and how to deal with diffi cul es with an
organized team is the most important thing I want to learn before joining this camp. Addi onally, this camp could help
me learn how to connect the society resources with organiza ons. However, the biggest achievement was the presenta-
on.
During the three-day camp, there was a mission for every team to come up with a cri cal and prac cal service
project. One week before this camp, we started to discuss this project, but no conclusion. However, at the fi rst night of
the camp, Ranko, the teamfacilitator, asked me, ”You have par cipated in many diverse ac vi es in your life, is there any
fi ndings or discovery that you want to change ?” A er thinking deeply, I responded” the resource integra on of service
team”. And then, the intense discussions began. Through the analyzing and integra ng the discussion, we made the
project more clearly. Preferably, we not only used the 5W1H tool (what, when, where, who, why, how) to present our
presenta on, but also distributed du es to every team member, which could help us learn from this special and valuable
experience. Division of work is a good lesson. By understanding the strength and specialty of team members, we did well
and had the confi dence to show it.
But the trouble came to me, when we waited for doing the presenta on. Rylarians told me that we should let
every member stand on the stage; hence, every team member had the opportunity to prac ce their presenta on skill.
As a founder of this project, I highly appreciated all team members. Without them, I couldn’t have enough cour-
age to stand on the stage and present this idea to uncles, aun es, and other par cipants. The more power we have, the
more responsibility we have to take. Thanks again to every team member who cooperated with me, and thanks to this
camp which gave me the chance to learn how to form an organized team and have this special and wonderful experi-
ence. Now I want to serve others, help others, and lead others to a ain their life goal.

吳怡萱
My name is Yi-Syuan, Wu. I am studying in Na onal Taiwan University of Art, my major is music. I have learning
piano and viola when I just six years old. In fourteen years of my life, music is only important thing for me. In November
2012, I decided to apply the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, it’s my fi rst me to join a camp which talking about leader-
ship rather than music.
During three day of RYLA, I found many thing that I didn’t see before. First one is English, it’s really important ability
for us to communicate with diff erent people. In RYLA, I want to ask many ques on I had, but I can’t. Because the pool
English, I can’t understand or talk with people. Thank RYLA for let me decide to learn English hard. I hope I can speak
English on the stage next me.
The second thing I fi nd is team spirit. In music class, everyone always playing the instrument themself, we seldom
work together. Because the property of our learning, we o en think about ourself not other or a team. First day in RYLA,
I don’t know how to work with other. I just good at music, I don’t know what can I do for team. Later, I know everyone is
important, if you can pay your passion and a en on in your team, you will be a good member. It’s very valuable experi-
ence for me to understand that we need to know and learn how to work in a team.
And the last thing is how to give. In 沈芯菱’s speech, I saw a twenty-three girl who give all she has. In her speech,
I found to be a human what we should do. We need to think about what is good for us, for all people, not just for me, a
person. Her speech touched our heart, and told us don’t give up ourselves, don’t give up this world. A er her speech,
everyone will has brave to do something for our world.
59
It really tried when RYLA fi nished, but I learned many me in this camp. I decide to face my pool English, and also
have brave to work with other people. More important of all, to give as many as you can. I am glad to join RYLA this
winter voca on. Thank you very much
李立婷
I’m so glad to join the Ryla because I met new partners. First, I like to use English all day or talked to anybody.
It’s not easy to me, but I tried very hard again and again. These three days full of laughter and hard work will be deeply
imprinted in my mind and never forget. Every me when I asked myself, are you enjoying it? The answer is always yes!
I enjoyed every chance, so I learn and grew. In those three days, I learned lots of things, like how to lead a team. I told
myself not to give up easily, or you’ll disappoint yourself. If you gave up once, then you will have no chance again for the
whole life. That is very important but hard to do. Because of Ryla, I knew where I need to more fulfi ll myself and how to
talk to strangers or let them know you and remember you. I think in those three days, I not only knew how to lead but
also knew how to serve. We are the one, But we are not the same. Everyone is diff erent, so don’t underes mate yourself,
all things in their beings are good for something. Facing diff erent partners, I need to change my leading styles. A er Ryla,
I already know how to do and what I should do, I really really thanks Ryla.
劉展嘉
It’s my honor to take part in RYLA for three days, I learn so much. First of all, I want to thanks all of staff s, uncles
and aunts. Lack of you, we didn’t have this chance to join this camp. Talk something impressed me during three days.
I think the shin-lin,sung’s speech impressed me most, she’s same age as me. But she make lots of amazing things. She
donated 5 millions NT dollars which was earned by herself. Besides this speech, the OBT impressed me deeply, too. In
fact, I have acrophobia, so I didn’t want to play before I go to RYLA. When I came there, due to rylaian’ encouragement,
I did it fi nally.

Very happy to have this opportunity to par cipate in RYLA, Three days and two nights of the trip is very fulfi lling,
Not only to know many friends, Heart is unrivaled harvest, Not only wonderful Keynote Speech, Listen to Shen Hsin-ling
shared many posi ve stories, And her view of life a tude for life, And the Jeff Wang very prac cal briefi ng skills, Under-
standing of all the common problem of briefi ngs, And Ac on Learning invited Smart Orange Training and Consul ng Inc,
Has been very afraid of the dark, Cover my eyes and did not feel safe, Beginning my partner lead me to move around, In
fact, the heart s ll not be able relax, A er a brief chat, Gradually I also assured themselves to the partner, Also the fi rst
step forward in order to breakthrough, And there need teamwork outward bound, The beginning I am full of expecta-
ons, However, the actual full of nervous walking ghtrope, But I believe the team will allow me to be safe, So I will be
able to complete the task with courage, A er instructor around us circle, Please everyone to share the feelings of the
outward bound, I said “believe, courageous”, But scares me the most is actually, To know the ac vi es of half Chinese
and half English, I was very nervous before the start of the ac vi es,
Because my English is not very good, But like Shen Hsin-ling said “I’m possible”, Finally, thank you uncles and aunts,
Thank you has such a great camp so I have a diff erent experience, And thanks to staff s, Without you vibrant service,
Make sure that the ac vi es would be less interes ng, Thanks to all of you gave me the best RYLA memory ever, Tour of
the training camp is very rich and solid, We should strive to prac ce the “We Serve, We Lead” the spirit of Rotary.

In these three days I joined the program called Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). I really enjoyed this pro-
gram during these days. When I just arrived I met my team members and team leader . They are very friendly and we
solved every problem with the spirit of team work. This program started from the a ernoon of 1/18. Unfortunately I
could not par cipate in the fi rst ac vity in Desire park because I had the fi nal exam in university at the same me. The
other team members got more acquainted through that ac vity. When I arrived there they showed their passion and
friendliness to me then I got along with them very well soon. The fi rst night in RYLA is leader’s night. It was very fun. We
danced with each other even we just met the fi rst day and we had a wonderful live band performance in front of every-
one. We screamed for the performers to show how we like their performance and made the atmosphere very high. In
the end of the party we talked and exchanged name cards with the member from other groups. Through the party we
made more friends and this ac vity opened the wonderful start for the following days. At night we discussed the special
gree ng for our team. There are some members suggested we can adapt a popular song for our gree ng. We took this
sugges on and added some gesture. Finally we made a good impression on everyone. I thought that is why we can
earned the award of the best team.
In the morning of the second day we had two impressive lectures. The fi rst one is from a young girl Shen, Hsin-Ling
who starts to help people from young age and she told us some experiences that she did things like how to sell fruits by
a smart idea and how to help the children who wanted to study but without money to go to the cram school. Also she
told us the posi ve a tude to live on earth and she asked us to achieve the dream as possible as we can even there are
many obstacles on the way. She said there is no impossible just “I’mpossible”. For me this is very encouraging. The
second one is Jeff Wang who taught us how to make good presenta on. I thought he is a successful speaker because
his speech caught everyone’s eyes for 1 hour and also he taught us how to become a good speaker with the tool of how
to make use of PowerPoint. These two lectures are very useful to me. A very importance characteris c of leadership is
Trust. So in the a ernoon we had a training course of learning how to trust people and how to be trusted by people. We
had some games during the class that helped us know each other very quickly and “trust” can be established between
us in a short me. In the night we had to discuss a project for the issue of how to pay a en on to the minority groups.
We had to think up an ac on and to present it in no less than 5 minutes. This is the kind of prepara on work for the
last important presenta on. A er this ac vity we had to make a complete PowerPoint to show the performance of our
tomorrow’s presenta on. We used the spirit of the teamwork to work it out. Everyone of our team had his own job.
We discussed together and made the PowerPoint together. There were some members of my team didn’t sleep un l
4:30 a.m. because they wanted to prac ce more and also they had to think of how to present on the stage. They are
very great to our team.
On the third day, we had OBT challenge. There were many facili es in that place and our team went to climb to a
high al tude and walk on a rope. In this challenge, we had to show our teamwork. The people who didn’t go up on the
rope had a important job that is to protect the challenger who might be falling. This is another me we had to trust our
team that they will protect us. In the a ernoon we all did a good job on the fi nal presenta on. It is not to be in vein
that we put so many eff ort on it.
In RYLA, I learned a lot. The courses let us discuss and we all had a inspira onal lectures and leadership training.
Thanks for Rotary held this program and it is very useful for me in my life and I made many friends in these days.
In the end I want to say “ We Serve, We Lead! “

In the past three days spent in RYLA, I really enjoyed those me spent with all RYLArians, my team members and
our facilitator. Before I went to RYLA, I was a li le nervous and anxious about speaking in English all the me during the
camp and ge ng along with my unknown group members. Our fi rst ac vity in desire park made us get acquainted to our
group members in a very short me because we had to solve riddles, played some games together, and competed with
other groups. The feeling was especially good when everyone was trying their best to make commitment to our group.
We worked together to solve challenges.
The fi rst night in RYLA was Leader’s Night, we danced with RYLArians from other groups and exchanged name
cards. The most impressive part to me was that everyone seemed to be enjoying band’s performances and screamed,
danced like old friends rather than people met the fi rst day. Also, Leader’s Night was the fi rst ac vity that reminded me
of that it’s a good opportunity in RYLA to speak in English. At night, we gathered together to discuss for our group greet-
ing, though turning out to be “the best team” at the end of RYLA, we didn’t know at that me and was very worried
about our group gree ng, however, we have two of the team members who are playing in band (especially thankfulness
for Tony, without you, we would not come up with such an interes ng group gree ng), so we decided to revise a funny
song into our group gree ng together with some gestures with help from Garfi eld, a team member from popular dance
club. I thought the best of our group gree ng was that each team member added something into it and we all love it.
In the morning of the second day, we listened lectures carried from Shen, Hsin-Ling, a young girl who started to
help a lot of people from a very young age. Her remarks are posi ve and full of gratefulness. “Ac on is the key to suc-
cess” is the core of her speech. A er that, Jeff Wang told us how to give a great presenta on, which is “prac ce makes
perfect”. In the ac on learning courses a er lunch, we prac ce with some elements needed for leaders such as concen-
tra on and trust. To say is one thing, but to do is another, we are assigned into groups with RYLArians we didn’t know,
trying to lead and led by our partners, and to coordinate with each other closely to complete tasks.
Learning how to be led is as important as leading; learning to trust people you fi rst met is diffi cult at the beginning,
but a er mes of prac ce, I began to relax and believed that my partner would keep me safe when my eyes were cov-
ered by mask. I also realized that being a leader requires us to take ini a ve instead of being passive all the me, then
we could grab opportuni es. I really enjoyed ac on learning because it’s really fun and inspiring at the same me.
We prepared a li le presenta on in the evening with limited 30 minutes. It’s quite a challenge but no one wasted
me on complaining and we teamwork to work it out. And the coming night was one of the most impressive part during
RYLA, team members work together to come up with contexts of our presenta on, made amendment for many mes
and prac ced again and again. Everyone looked very red and some even lied in the bed with closing eye but s ll prac-
cing what to say. When we fi nally fi nished, it was already 4:30a.m. (Eva, Tony and Peter were dedicated to our presen-
ta on, thanks so much my partners) Next morning, we had OBT challenge, which took the whole team to protect the
challenger from falling. Once again mutual trust and teamwork were needed to overcome those challenges.
In RYLA, we followed the principal “learning by doing”. And I do learn a lot and make a lot of good friends. Thanks
for everyone who are dedicated to RYLA and give us such a great experience.

楊雅惠
I am very honored to par cipate in ROTAR YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS. Because my English is not very good, I am
afraid of dragging everyone. The fi rst day in the car a er the chat, the interac on of the game with the teammates, we
became good friends.
At night, we began to think of the team cheering, team name and our color - blue. Evening party waltz and swing
dancing is so relaxing that we let go of our own heart.
The next day from two speakers I learned a lot. 沈芯菱got me to start thinking about the so-called do’s and
don’ts, diff erences of dreams and desires. I was also very impressed by Jeff ’s presenta on skills, and the classes. I
learned own mistakes and the need to improve the skills. In a ernoon ac vi es, we can learn concentra on and team-
work Among all ac vi es, the most interes ng one is blindfolded games. Because you have to believe people with you
to diff erent loca ons.
A er dinner, we had discussion me the theme was” Resolving Ignorance through Ac ons”. My group decided to
follow the concept of the elderly group band. We will upload to Facebook and Youtube for propaganda “快閃活動” and
produce mini-movie for publicity to wake up the community. My group was divided into three parts integra on, market-
ing and sponsorship during teamwork presenta on.
Third day a er breakfast, we played outward bound. This training was really exci ng. We were able to train our
own guts and courage through teamwork. We can be trained to s mulate the imagina on and in the air. A er the end
of the last briefi ng, we prepared presenta on. My team received the best team of outstanding performance at Rotary
Youth Leadership Award. I was surprised. Leader told us not to be too stressful, do your best!
I want to thank my teammates, because they always have an infi nite number of imagina on and crea vity. From
the camp I learn the small diff erence between leaders and leadership. Every teammate is a small role but has its impor-
tance. Everyone’s opinions become innova ve and unique once we mixed ideas with together.
徐敏嘉
My name is Sarah. I was in the group of Unbeatable Sea View Buddha Jump over the Wall. A er this 3 days camp,
I really learned a lot. First, I want to talk about our team. All of our teammates are excellent that they tried their best to
do what they could do. It is just like a puzzle, our team wouldn’t be complete if we missed one of us. When they were
the leaders, they took their responsibili es to lead our team. There wasn’t any argument within us. Everyone is happy,
energe c and enjoyable. Most important of all, each of our team members trusts the others. I believe we can achieve all
the things as long as we work together. In our group, anyone leads the group in a good way. I think that is why we were
chosen to be the best team. And, I am really proud to be one of our team members.
65
Second, in the speech of Hsin-Ling Shen, I learned even though one has li le power, he s ll has chance to make big
change. If I were her, at the age of 14, I would think I am too li le to do those things. I can’t even make sure I can do that
now. She let me know: as long as one step out his fi rst step, it is possible. Some mes things seem too diffi cult to achieve,
but how can one know whether he can do it if he doesn’t even start it. I am really afraid of height. I couldn’t imagine that
I could stand on a thread in the height of over 10 meters un l I really stood on it. When I returned to the ground, the fi rst
thinking went through my head was,” o~ my~ god~ I did it!” I also believed that it was on the support of my teammates
that I could do it. They didn’t do anything, but I was unconsciously pushed to go on. Third, we made the project that was
meant to help those who are ignored, I found it interes ng that most of the me we help people by physical labor, but
this me we use our crea vi es to help people. It’s quite fantas c that everyone worked and thought together to make
the project more prac cal, more feasible and more workable. Besides, when we thought to help people, we were happy
as well. We believe if there will some people in need of help, it will be the best feedback. To sum up, although the camp
was only 3 days long, I not only gained lots of knowledge, but also got wonderful experience.
莊舜君
The days spent in RYLA camp are the best three days in my life since I’ve made a group of good friends and learned
a lot from here. Although these days were extremely exhaus ng and almost drove us crazy, but well goes the proverb”
Friends in need are friends indeed”, a er staying up late for two days, we overcame all the diffi cul es and fi nally sur-
vived ! The friendship I’ve developed from here and the knowledge I’ve learned from the great speakers have made me
a be er person, a grown-up who is capable of playing diff erent roles in diff erent kinds of situa on and I really appreciate
that.
The slogan, “We lead, we serve!” is deeply stored in my mind. Before I came to this camp, my defi ni on of leader
was “the strongest and the smartest person, the person who is be er than anyone else both physically and mentally”
and I am of the opinion that I could never be a leader. Nevertheless, our facilitator said that each team member must
be the leader for at least one me. Since I am the oldest in the group, I was assigned to be the leader for the second
ac vity- welcome party. I was pre y nervous since I was very embarrassed when we went through the very fi rst ac vity:
not only did we have to beat our minds to answer the riddles but we also had to play diff erent kinds of games that were
aimed to enhance the collabora on with others. I was desperate since I found out that I was not able to devote myself
to our team, I didn’t understand the riddles! What’s worse, I should know one of the riddle since that covered my major!
And I didn’t even know what to do when we were in the party! It seemed that I was a useless person.
Not un l I listened to the lecture by uncle did I know the nature, the true meaning of a good leader and thus
felt a lot be er! There are so many characters that a good leader should portray. The most important point is that you
should always have your own faith and be confi dent! I took these principles as advices and try my utmost to put them
into prac ce and in the long run, I thought that I succeed! A er the fi nal presenta on, when our facilitator, Darren said
that we were awesome and I really did a great job, I was so moved that I almost burst out tears! Thanks a lot to my part-
ners, Sarah, Garfi eld, Maggie, Becky, Tony, Peter, John, Ted and Darren, without their help and support, I think I couldn’t
complete this hard task! And thanks to other great speakers, I got a lot posi ve thinking and useful skills to improve our
project, a project that is really inspiring (to help elders to create a band! Let’s rock!)
66
What’s more, I really like the dancing party since that was my fi rst me to dance with so many people and I really
enjoyed it.
Last but not least, our team rocks! We’re the best team “Unbeatable Seaview Buddha Jump over a Wall” and I
really love our cheers and team members. I’ll never forget them! Hope we will be good friends forever!
黃韋豪
Before going to the camp I was very anxious about my English speaking, and I wasn’t very good at ge ng acquaint-
ed with new friends. The fi rst day started in the a ernoon, I think I was lucky that I joined in an energe c group which I
discovered during the game on the bus. Also during the camp’s events, it’s interes ng that our group worked together
smoothly, such as team building and group gree ng. The impressive thing during the discussion of the group gree ng is
that everyone racked its brain to help and everyone exerts their skills, such as dance club or a rock band. At length the
fi rst day working over the midnight, an astonishing news shocked us which it said we wouldn’t sleep to much!
The second day was early. I was happy that the schedule was a lecture in the morning, because I could charge
myself. But the lecture and speech was so useful and broadened my horizon. I learned to treasure our life via fulfi lling
our dream and giving someone else a big hand; I learned how to make a good presenta on with some awesome skills.
In the a ernoon, the ac on learning told us a great lesson what trust is. With the mask covering the eyes, our balance
began to blur. To explore the world in the dark and only with two hands guiding your way was diffi cult, although the
world is just a gym. Yet, by trus ng the guide, your world seemed to get wider and bigger. It was an incredible experience
which I haven’t done before. The end of the second day as if it is endless, our group struggled during the night to make
the presenta on and rehearse the speech. Thanks to all the members’ par cipa on, our presenta on could be not only
content but also prac cal.
The third day was an exhaus ng day but worthwhile. The outward bound was so unbelievable. When I saw the
scene in front of me, I thought to myself” do I really complete this mission, and conquer the fear in my mind? “ It turned
out that through teamwork and mutual trust we could pass those barrier and nothing could stop us. It was also an amaz-
ing experience that I would want to introduce to my friends. Having such ring events, in the a ernoon, we were going
to perform our presenta on. I learned a lot from other groups’ idea, it was really crea ve. Also our group did a good
job.
It was a wonderful camp I have ever had. I appreciate that the rotatory club can give me this opportunity and thank
you for all the staff . Also thank you for my best group members!

I was not interested in RYLA at fi rst because it sounded boring and only bookworm would join it. Although I did
not pay too much a en on on it, my grandfather s ll signed it up for me. I was so mad when I heard the news because
I don’t want to waste three days out there. Fortunately, it wasn’t like what I thought. Most people here are around my
age, and some of them have same hobby as mine which we have same topic to chat. Also, people here are friendly that
I did not feel nervous or uncomfortable to get along with them. In addi on, the lessons here are not all boring. Some
of lessons discovered the deepest side of me, and I met one of my old friends during the lessons. It was a surprised and
amazed coincidence. Approximately, I made many friends, lessons were fun, food was delicious, rooms were fantas c,
and the process was fl uent. In short, these three days is one of the greatest mes of my life. I am not regre ul to a end
this ac vity. Hope I can preserve the memories forever.

Be. Do. Have.
When talking about being a leader, it’s o en encouraged to HAVE the ability, DO what needs to be done, and fi nally
BE the leader. However, this RYLA gave me a totally opposite perspec ve. Giving our RYLArians the opportuni es to BE
leaders, they indeed determined to DO the leading works and fi nally behaved like ones that HAVE the ability to infl uence
others. Awesome, RYLArians!
The sequence of “Be Do Have” also applies to us, the Organizing Commi ee. Serving as the staff s, most of us are
the fi rst- mers. Not knowing what RYLA was supposed to be, we cra ed the program from scratch. The eff ort we spent
accompanied with valuable sugges ons from RYLA commi ee members and experienced RYLA facilitators led the 3-day
event an amazing experience.
Giving the duty to BE the Deputy CEO, it’s my pleasure yet also the pressure. Thanks to CEO Oliver, who is as
young as most RYLArians but willing to bear the responsibility, for being the solid pillar of execu ve team. Through the
coopera on with all members, we DID achieve something that haven’t being done before. For example, throwing the
ballroom dance party, making every program session highly connected to each other, and using the informa on system
to track the RYLA prepara on as business project. To me, I even gave myself the challenge to be the host. I was never a
person that enjoys to speak upon stage, but I am glad that I passed the test with my partner Kent, making the program
as smooth as we expected. Look back to the over 5000 man-hour we have spent, I see progression to everyone and
myself. We can all proudly say that we HAVE the ability to organize the events like RYLA and to lead others to achieve
their success!
To leave aside the leadership and personal achievement, another harvest from RYLA is friendship. During the
event, I met many nice and aggressive RYLArians. I hope that you all enjoyed the event and will eventually being part of
us to facilitate future RYLArians. To be honest, we staff s are the ones who enjoyed the most. I cherish the moments that
we stay late preparing for the event, suppor ng and cheering up each other. I am proud of being one of the team, RYLA
3480, 2012-13.
I am glad to BE here, DO the right things, and HAVE lots of fun and friends!

RYLA is a very memorable experience to me in RAC life. Since last June, my taskforce members have been involved
in this project for over eight months. From planning, implemen ng and evalua on, this is the fi rst new genera on proj-
ect for Rotaract members like us to build it up and complete.
I am very glad to be one of RYLA project team as secretary and facilitator. To be honest, I did not have similar
work experience before. Thanks to Oliver and zi, I learned how to develop required skills and mindset for diff erent tasks.
Moreover, I am very lucky to have other members’ support and cheers during the period, especially on over me nights.
They inspired me a lot and made me dare to change, throw away stereotyped thoughts and share new ideas.
Facilitator is another challenge for me, for this role is designed for “inducing” team mates to lead and cooperate
with each other rather than “command.” As one of Rotaract Club members, though I’ve been exploring and trying to
defi ne “leadership” upon my understanding, but s ll remained obscure. In face of upcoming RYLA, I had to make my
team mates to demonstrate and display leadership traits. A er thinking over and over, I decided to opt for “laissez faire
“strategy, which implies peer infl uence and high self-awareness. I would like to create an atmosphere in which everyone
enjoys learning leading and following. Surprisingly, we won the MVP prize and fi rst place. XD
For me, the idea of “leadership” was reconstructed and consolidated a er RYLA. Unlike most people, I think a suc-
cessful leader should be mentor and in mate pals as well. Everyone has its own ways of doing, what a poten al leader
does is to do ahead, learn a er trying and errors, then be a good one. A successful leader is not good because he is
always right, but because he is willing to listen and trust. Only when one learns to stand in other people’s shoes can he
be respected by his followers. “To lead and be led,” that is the ques on!
Again all Rylarians, I am proud of us because we did make miracles happen! Out of comfort zone, here we stood
together with hands clutching. I believed we are on the way to success and
making next genera on and the world be er. :D

This is my third me to par cipate in such a wonderful ac vity.
And indeed, it’s really one of the good ac vi es in my Rotaract life so far.
Par cipa ng in RYLA really encourages me to work much harder and to think further
how Rotary or RYLA can benefi t the par cipants and also the staff .
In fact, I s ll consider how Rotary’s project can we engage in. Right now, I realize that RYLA’s the best project that
we can join. Because during the camp, we become more mature by the nourishment of RYLA’s program and the united
environment of RYLA’s staff . Besides, by coopera ng with Rotarians, I had learned that how they dealing with things and
how they communica ng with others. Hence it’s really a lesson that you cannot learn from school and offi ce un l you
engage in this program.
Furthermore, I really appreciate all the RYLA staff this year. We had a wonderful structure that every staff did their
best to accomplish the assigned jobs. And a er 9 months prepara on and three-day-two-night camp, we are like a big
and warm family. I think a er gradua on from college, I don’t have this experience un l I joined Rotaract Club and being
a staff of RYLA. So I make a decision, before the age limita on of 30; I’d like to join each RYLA.
Finally, I’d like to give everyone a sentence.” Being a RYLArian is good for the future.”

I am glad to have the opportunity to par cipate in RYLA this year. I recognized many partners in the preparatory

It is really a good experience for all the staff s and me. I learn many a tudes about passion, teamwork, and many

I can always feel deligh ng and inspiring for those moments spending in Rotaract or Rotary events/mee ngs.
Though it was my fi h me par cipa ng as a staff in RYLA, every year is with diff erent challenge, mission, and people;
throughout the variety of the elements for me to gain quite much fun. This RYLA was my great pleasure and honor
since it’s coordinated by Rotaractors from the program design, task force training, and even budget control. During the
process of co-working with the crew, I was strongly aff ected by the passion, the crea on, and the coordina on! Since
very many staff s are the fi rst me ge ng involved, they can think out of the old boxes of the event style which really
surprised me. I also saw obvious growth during the prepara on progress of some staff s; furthermore, I had got some
feedback from the RYLArians on how great and frui ul the RYLA camp is to them compared to other similar events
they’ve joint before. I believe exactly this is the where the spirit of “Learning by doing” and it works in many ways to
let the crew shows the talent and originality. I’d like to encourage more Rotaractors who never jump in RYLA before, do
not miss out any further chance to level up!
Men oning about the RYLArians this year, I was very touched on their a tude and coopera on. Only when the
par cipants were into the camp deeply, they could bring back much more than they expected or what the event had
prepared for them. Via the performance in diff erent sec ons we could see how many eff orts they’ve devoted in. An-
other highlight of the RYLA was not how brilliant that each program was, but the teamwork and laughers the RYLArians
showed.
Last but not least, I can’t express much more apprecia on on how brave, kind and tolerate that the RYLA Com-
mi ee of Rotary was to provide such a rare and treasurable opportunity for Rotaractors to give a try. S ll, Rotarians are
there to consult and suggest as the strongest support whenever there’s any concern or diffi culty that the team faced to.
Without Rotarians, this RYLA wouldn’t be such a crea ve and memorable to either the staff or RYLArians. Thank you for
providing the chance and environment for new genera on to keep moving and learning. I look forward to many more
young adults to be encouraged from more Rotary projects! =)

created many sparkles on mee ng and have more fun. I want to give them a big applause. To thank them let me learn
from them and give me this chance to learn. Espectually facilitator team for giving me a chance to lead. This is the fi rst
me to me for being the team leader and hope not be the last.
We hope all the par cipants learn how to lead and be leaded which are the main idea we would like to deliver
to them. This me is a new way that Rotaract 3480 Dist plan 2012-2013 RYLA, which is by a complete project. Through
planing those ac vi es by ourselves, the RYLA staff s also learn a lot. In order to present these 3 day RYLA camp, we spent
more than 3 day for disscussion, prepara on and dtermina on. Some of us are stuents, some of are workers who spent
their free me for 3480 2012-2013 RYLA and it’s worthy. A er RYLA, the treasure is we s ll own this partnership.
To me, I found out myself have lots of possibili es. To be honest, I have never be a leader before. It’s a challenge
for being a Facilitator learder. You have to know well all the schedule and let your parners know it too which is the most
diffi cult part. Because each group leader par cipate much more mee ngs than the other partners, we know the sched-
ule and every sec on what we are going to do. Those schdules I have to use the most easy way to let facilitators know
and to excusive. I have to know how to communicate which is also the most interes ng part.
At the last, I want to say thanks for Uncles, Aun es, RYLA staff s and Ralarians. Because of all the par cipants,
I really enjoy and fi nd out I can create the other possibility. I know next year will be be er and be er. Enjoy your RALA

I never a end RYLA when I was a student and this is my fi rst RYLA camp. A er the three days RYLA experience,
I realized that it’s a pity I didn’t know RYLA and I couldn’t a end RYLA earlier. Being a facilitator is really an awesome
experience. I can see my team members were shy and quiet while they were arriving. Then a er many diff erent leader-
ship ac vi es, they became energe c and vigorous. These leadership courses not only developed RYLArians but also
helped staff to understand how to be a good leader. The most impressive speech for me is the Presenta on Skill from
Mr. A-fu. Since the RYLA is in the January and I am going to start a new job in February, this class is just what I need! Mr.
Afu’s speech was prac cal and easy to understand. I believe that a er this speech, all RYLArians and staff were having
the same feeling that I can be a presenta on master too!
To be the RYLA staff is very diff erent with being a RYLArian. I have to work closely with facilitator team members. At
the same me I had to collaborate with program team (節目組), admin team (行政組) and many other staff teams. A er
six months collabora on, we not only completed a great RYLA camp but also built up a strong friendship. This is one of
the most valuable memories for me in this RYLA experience. I will recommend all RYLArians that come to join Rotaract

Lovely winter break with my lovely teammate. Within 3 days, I spent my me with them and I s ll remember the
fi rst me we met in the bus. Although this is not my fi rst me to be a facilitator to take care of teammates and tell them
how to be a leader in the me. But it is quite diff erent from other camps with elementary students. They are all college
students with some dreams about leadership or do something posi ve for the society and charity. On the fi rst day, we

teammates follow them.
At the beginning, it is very hard to contact them on phone, for some of them are so naughty. But in the end. I
found out that they are sweet, smart and brilliant. I don’t have to worry about their project and fi nal presenta on. They
already grow up and know how to make the audience listening to them.
A er kids went to bed, it’s me for staff ’s review mee ng. Every day we want to do our best for leading them
to enjoy the camping and learn something from it. No ma er what they do, they were doing their best. Especially in
the third day of OBT, everyone was helping each other for cheering and keeping safe. I think it was the high light of the
all leadership camping. Their a tude brought a lot of encouragement to my life. RYLA would not be so successful thing
without team work.
A er the three days, I think that I learn a lot from them. I realized that being a leader of the group is not an easy
job. You need to listen to their opinions and make decision for all the people. I am glad that I worked with all the team
and brought posi ve a tude to my kids. Let’s make the society be er and be er.

This was my second me to join RYLA, but this me I was a facilitator, not a RYLArian. It was a big challenge for
me to be a facilitator because I didn’t have any similar facilita ng experience in a camp and leading a group of people
who are even older than me. I thought that I had a mo ve to try my best to do this because we had nice leaders and our
excellent teamwork. In this RYLA team, everyone did what they needed to do and used a lot of me to discuss which
kinds of programs were the best for RYLArains. We only thought that we wanted all RYLArians to learn something and
have fun in this camp.
Be a facilitator, in my mind, one needs to help a group of people to adapt to unfamiliar condi ons and new partners
as fast as possible. Most partner are very shy to show themselves. But I thought that my cutest group- “Green Raincoat,”
they didn’t have this problem. Because of that, I just reminded them what they should do, and not need to lead and
help them in every aspect. They liked their partners and felt great about their teamwork. Everyone in this group always
knows what to do in the right me and tried to do everything. Especially when they were doing the OBT and discussing
the fi nal presenta on, they helped each other and encouraged their partners to fi nish the challenges. Besides, some
RYLArians told me that they felt comfortable to have a camp in the Aspire Resort and felt the programs of 2012-13RYLA
was be er than before.
I am one of the youngest staff in this RYLA team, and I didn’t have any experience to work with this group of
people. In the beginning I felt really nervous about that, but in the end I feel really delighted to work with them. In this
experience, I learn and understand a lot of new and important abili es. I learned that leading, teamwork and crea vity
are really important when a group of people need to do a big camp. If we didn’t have nice leaders, we can’t do every-
thing appropriately and use teamwork to unite the programs. And I was surprised about the group ac vity in the fi rst day
a ernoon because it was the most fascina ng game that I have never played. It used knowledge, energy and teamwork
at the same me. However, I was really glad to join 2012-13 RYLA and if I can par cipate in it again, I will do that.

Being the facility of RYLA, I fi nally understand the spirit of We server, We lead.
I helped my team, Red heart, to accomplish every challenges and took good care of every team members pa ently.
This is also a way to sever them. From now on I can sever the community not only dona ng money but also leading the
people to do the right things. Although I am the facility of my team, I didn’t have to do a lot of thing.
All i have to do is just telling my team members the mission and deadline and someone will just stand up and vol-
unteer to lead the team.
Being the part of RYLA is really a life changing experiences and I feeling huge honor working with a groupe of
people who have energy all the me and always complete their mission effi ciently. Supported by Rotary and all Uncles,
we can conquer all the diffi cul es more easily and feel 100% supported. I am thankful for their eff ort and mental and
substan al support.
I want to thank again to all the uncle and Rotary Club giving us such a good stage to perform ourselves and accu-
mulate experiences.

I am one of the facilitators this year. When I joined the facilitator team, I was told to be all enthusias c as to a
competent facilitator! I thought that was the only thing needed to be a facilitator. But I was totally wrong; there is much,
much more in it then just enthusiasm alone. Now, I think once the facilitators have the enthusiasm to undertake the job,
they must know every detail of the event to answer all the ques ons from team members. Moreover, facilitators should
fi gure out how to bring their team members together. Being a facilitator also means to be a friendly person, to welcome
every team member with big arms and to encourage them to get all involved in each event; it is such a challenging task!
I am also glad that I had a great team; they are so nice to work with me in every ac vity. Thanks to them, I have learned
to be more considerate and responsible throughout this three-day camp.
Working with RYLA organizing group has been very pleasant. We have lots of mee ngs together to discuss how
and what we wanted to present to the RYLArians. In each discussion, I have learned a lot from this great group; I felt we
grew together as a team. It is such an exci ng experience to be part of the organizing group, pu ng the pieces together
and it turned out to be a great success!
It is a blessing to have this opportunity to be a RYLA staff as a facilitator; I get to explore diff erent aspects in me.
Thanks to the 3480 district, uncles and aun es, the whole RYLA group and my team members.

It was so great to join RYLA again, and this year I became a staff .
The 3-day camp was planned and implemented by Rotaractors like us. Because I joined Facilitator team midway, I
felt nervous to have fallen behind schedule a lot. With the help of other team members, I caught up with work smooth-
ly.
Being a facilitator, I learned how to lead and to be led. Helping members with ps instead of solu ons was also
learning. Moreover, having a team of my own was great. All staff was so exhausted in the 3 days, but we all enjoyed it.
We worked hard, and took care of each other, just like a big family. I felt so lucky and so proud to be a part of 2012-13

Each year, thousands of young people take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program worldwide. In dis-
trict 3480, young talents between the ages of 18-25 were chosen for their leadership poten al. Award winners a ended
an all-expenses-paid camp to learn advanced leadership skills and for fi ed their leadership mindset by introducing in-
nova ve tools in ac vi es which mo vate them to serve and to lead.
In RYLA our aims were to provide an eff ec ve training experience for selected youth and poten al leaders and
encouraged leadership of youth by youth. In addi on, we recognized publicly young people who are rendering service
to their communi es and helped them build individual self confi dence. The Rylarian learned how and when to lead, and
how and when to follow. Their performance in certain ac vi es even exceeded their own understanding of how strong
they really were!
I was very lucky to become the member of facilitator team and worked with some of the best Rotaracts in distric
3480. Their team spirit and posi ve a tude truly inspired me and consequently had me devote more me and energy
to the prepara on of RYLA. During the camp, I assisted my team to accomplish all the tasks including team building, pre-
senta on, and OBT and witnessed their winning of the Best Team Award. I felt excited to be with so many young, smart,
and funny people. The fellowship we shared grows further, we have had 2 reunion already!
I want to thank Rotary Interna onal District 3480 for giving me such a great opportunity to par cipate in RYLA
2013 and I really appreciate the me spent with the Rotaractors and RYLArians. Wish all the best for RYLA next year! We

I thought it’s a good experience to work with these good friends. In RYLA, we not only talked about leadership but
also learned how to lead and to be led. As the program team leader, I was very impressed by preparing everything and
working hard during 9 months. It also had a huge pressure in the 3 days of RYLA. When I saw students standing up to
applaud, everything was paid off . I was very happy to work with such a group of people. We made the impossible to be
possible. It was a successful three-day camp, thank you all.

camp started. The devil is in the details , though we tried to avoid problems and errors, s ll negligence and problems
always happen , But because of the posi ve a tude strain and rapid fl exibility, it’s the Great Result and Glory eventu-

From the kick-off mee ng, program planning and con nuous prepara on mee ngs, we completed the impossible
mission step by step. Throughout these steps, I also learned much what I did not have before. These experiences made
me get into this big Rotaract family even closer.
Last but not least, I must say to every one of the RYLA staff , “We serve, we lead, and we are the best!”

An encouraging word could change one’s concept and behavior, even his future; on the other hand, a nega ve
word would hurt one’s mind and even destroy his future. Encouragement is an magical power. If we exhibit friendship
