End of Term 2….. Friday, 3 July is the last day of Term 2, 2020. Our educational journey will continue from Tuesday, 22 July (First day of Term 3, 2020). Thank you to our lovely community for their support and patience during our COVID-19 climate and the number of adjustments we have had to make during this time. Your patience and support have truly been appreciated. Have a safe term break and we will see everybody back in Term 3. Staff Development Day Variation In Term 4, students will finish the school year on Wednesday, 16 December. The last two days, Thursday, 17 December and Friday, 18 December are designated Staff Development Days. However, to optimise the use of these Staff Development Days, schools are permitted to vary these days to meet the needs of the school and community. In Term 1 as we were moving into the COVID-19 climate and the need to prepare lessons and work on-line, the staff at Richmond Public School attended two twilight meetings on Monday, 9 March and Tuesday, 10 March. The sessions focussed on Google Classroom and Google Slides. In addition, each Stage Team worked together in finding sites such as Flip Grid to enhance the on-line learning. In attending these twilight sessions, this then varies the last Staff Development Day, that being Friday, 18 December. The last day of the 2020 school year for staff is Thursday, 17 December 2020. The Return of our Extra-Curricular Activities Term 3 will see the return of our extra-curricular activities, primarily those activities after school. Returning to us will be:

1. Keyboard Tuition with Julie; 2. Guitar Tuition with Kevin and Barb; 3. Karate with Anthony; and 4. ICode Next with Sadeep

Unfortunately, again adults are not permitted in the school, therefore we suggest you have a meeting gate for your child/ren. Thank you.

National Consistent Collection of Data – NCCD The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. The NCCD is a collection that counts: • the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability; and

• the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students. If your child is receiving adjustments to assist with their learning, in the near future a list of the adjustments will be sent home for you to sign acknowledging that you are aware of these adjustments to their learning. We kindly ask for this paperwork be promptly returned to school so that the school can upload the data. Thank you. Parent/Carer Teacher Interviews As stated in an earlier Newsletter and again further into this Newsletter, Parent/Carer/Teacher Interviews which were planned for Term 1, 2020 have been postponed. Now with the new guidelines and through the media outlining such guidelines, parent/carers must refrain from coming on-site, however Parent/Carer/Teacher Interviews may be held through a site such as ZOOM or over the telephone. During our on-line learning environment, teachers made regular contact with parents/carers and their students to discuss the student’s academic progress and their welfare; both the student and the families. Our Semester One Report Cards, though in a modified format, will give you an insight into how your child/ren are working and progressing and how they interact with their peers. After reading the Report Card if you would still like an interview with your child/ren’s teacher, please contact the office and the teacher will organise a phone link-up with you.

2021 Opportunity Class Applications (Reminder) A note was sent home on Tuesday, 2 June to all of our Year 4 students and families, indicating that applications to the 2021 Opportunity Class will open on Tuesday, 9 June (Last Tuesday). Parents and carers must apply online between Tuesday 9 June and Friday 26 June 2020 at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 Cross Country (Reminder) On Friday 26 June, Richmond Public School will be holding its Annual Cross Country Carnival for all students from Year 3 – Year 6 with our Year 2 eight year old students also included. Students have been walking the course over the past number of weeks in preparation. Holding the Cross Country Carnival will bring us into some normality and will assist in determining our 2020 Sport Champions. It will be wonderful having our students cheer on their house group and their peers as they run the course. Unfortunately, as with COVID-19 guidelines, parents/carers are not permitted to attend the carnival. Sporting Equipment (Reminder) Our wonderful students have returned and we are slowly increasing the volume of sporting equipment that can be accessed by the students during recess and lunchtime. The Department of Education’s Sport Unit has suggested that any sporting equipment that is used by the students during recess and lunchtime must be washed or wiped down after every use. Our Sport Captains and Vice-Captains have taken this responsibility very seriously and have organised a soapy bath for each item to be washed after recess and lunchtime; at completion of washing each item, they then wash their hands with soapy water. Thank you to our Sport Captains and Vice Captains. Great job!

New Newsletter Format (Reminder) Over the past number of weeks, Richmond Public School’s Technology and Community Participation and Engagement Committees have been investigating an improved format for our fortnightly Newsletter. Presently, it is sent out to our families in a PDF format and parents/carers need to negotiate the format over their device to read the specific items. Mr Shirvington presented to the Executive Staff, a format of the Newsletter that will allow individuals to access the Newsletter on any device and the layout of the Newsletter will be ‘optimised’. There will be additional educational links in the Newsletter and a link to the school’s website. The new format will be sent out in Week 1, Term 3 2020. The school trialled the new format with our Week 5, Term 2 Newsletter for the staff and the Executive staff to evaluate. I have attached the link to the Newsletter at the bottom of this item. In Term 3, the Newsletter will be sent out on our Skoolbag App’, will be placed onto the website and presently the school is investigating sending out the Newsletter as an SMS to your phones. Our Week 5, Term 2 Trialled Newsletter can be found at: https://sway.office.com/3kGRzbyuEb1YTXTl?ref=Link Year 7 2021 Agricultural Specialty Stream – Expression of Interest (Reminder) In December 2019, the NSW Minister of Education announced the establishment of Richmond Agricultural College. This two-campus model will utilise Richmond High School with a new agricultural stream and the Centre of Excellence in Agriculture based at the University of Western Sydney – Hawkesbury Campus. Enrolments are now open for Year 7 2021 with an application in the form of an Expression of Interest, portfolio and an interview/assessment. Attached to this Newsletter is an Information Brochure detailing the process for completing an Expression of Interest and as to who can apply. More information can be found at: https://richmondagcollege-h.schools.nsw.gov.au

Stage 3 Camp – The Plan (Reminder) Our Stage 3 camp is to be held from Wednesday, 5 August – Friday, 7 August. However, guidelines from the Department of Education clearly state that there are to be no excursions or off-site activities until further notice. When schools will receive this ‘further notice’ is unknown and therefore, as a school, we need to have a plan regarding our Stage 3 camp. The school is very mindful that the camp is expensive ($335) and in the current climate we have families who are unemployed or only partially employed and can not afford to pay for camp. If you are having difficulties paying for the camp if it is to go ahead, I urge you to contact the school. However, as from today (Thursday, 11 June), the school is not going to receive any further payments to the Aussie Bush Camp until further notice. On Thursday, 2 July (Last week of Term 2), the school will be sending a note home to our Stage 3 families indicating if the camp is going ahead or has been cancelled. The Stage 3 teachers have voiced their disappointment if we were to cancel the Stage 3 camp and have indicated that if the camp was cancelled and the excursion ban was lifted, the Stage 3 teachers would organise an early excursion (be it in Term 3 or Term 4) that would be ‘just for fun’ and not as expensive as the camp excursion. We await further notice from the Department of Education and hope that the ban is lifted as soon as possible. Uniform Shop – Open (Reminder) As of Wednesday 13 May, the school’s uniform shop, School Locker, will be open. The Uniform Shop is open each Wednesday from 2:00pm. I ask that if you are going to the Uniform Shop that you follow Social Distancing Guidelines. There will be markers for you to stand at should there be a line of people into the Uniform Shop. Thank you.

Report Cards - A Modified Approach (Reminder)

Our Semester One, 2020 Report Cards are to be sent home on Wednesday, 1 July. The Federal and State Government have notified schools that there will not be an A-E grading for Semester One due to the change to the learning environment for our students. However, in the Reports from Richmond Public School, there will be comments for Literacy, Numeracy and a General Comment. In addition, there will be a section titled, Attitudes to Learning which will cover work ethic before and after our on-line learning journey. The staff have been asked to cover additional Key Learning Areas in the General Comment section and to make comment on a student’s engagement regarding the on-line learning if a student has presented consistent work of a high standard while working on-line. In regards to our Parent/Carer/Teacher Interviews which were postponed in Term One, once the Report Cards have been sent home, if you would like an interview with your child’s teacher, please contact the office and they will have the teacher contact you to organise a day and time. Presently, the advice the school has received is not to have adults on-site, therefore the interview may take place over the phone. Gary Ruzgas Principal The Guitar Keyboard Academy The guitar and Keyboard Academy will be continuing our exciting music program on Thursday Afternoons. This program presents a wonderful opportunity for children from Years 1-6 to have guitar or keyboard lessons with friends in small groups to learn a variety of musical styles. To enrol contact Tutor Julie Canova 0405 510 965 or Email: [email protected]
