Richmond Elementary“Where Growing Minds Lead to Positive Learners”
A note from Ms. McBrideWe have made it to April and spring is definitely in
the air. As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, it seems we are busier and busier at Richmond. Please take note of our calendar additions on the left. We have a lot of fun and exciting things coming up.
I would like to thank everyone that attended the South Charleston Area family night in March. It was a huge success, with over 600 people attending. It is so amazing to see all of South Charleston come together to support our schools!
Also, an additional thank you to everyone that attended our 2nd annual Market Day. It was absolutely breath taking to see ALL of our students participating, creating businesses, promoting entrepreneurship and most of all having fun. Your support means the world to all of us.
We will be having our final LSIC meeting of the school year on April 22. I hope you can make plans to attend as we will be working on building our events calendar for the following school year.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns or ideas feel free to contact me at school or by email @ [email protected].
Love,Ms. McBride

For the month March Richmond had a total of:
234 tardies, 124 early sign outs and 294 absences. That is an average attendance of 93.9%. Kanawha County and Richmond’s attendance goal is above 95%. Our goal for the month of March will remain to get up to 94%. For the month of March, the number of absences went up from 282.5 to 293. We look forward to seeing this number go down in April.

"Days off cost good grades. Research shows for every 17 days missed of school your grade goes down one letter. If
you miss school, you miss out."

Spring Concert
Mr. Parsons (our music teacher) has been working with all of our classes on creating a musical performance to kick off the Spring season. We have schedule this concert for Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 6:00. The performance will be held in the Richmond Elementary multi-purpose room. We invite all parents/families to join us in supporting our music program and its students in bringing in the Spring season. As you know, parking is limited at Richmond, but we encourage those that can to park at Little Creek Park and walk over. Doors will not open until 5:50 due to Third Base using the room until then.

West Virginia Summative Assessment
On Monday April 29, 2019 we will begin the West Virginia Summative Assessment with all students in 3rd,
4th and 5th grade. This assessment is given to all students in English/Language Arts, Writing and Math. The
5th grade students will also be taking the Science assessment. During this time, we highly encourage all
students to be on-time or early for school. Testing will begin promptly at 7:30, therefore, if students sign in
late, they will be unable to take the test with their class. We also encourage students to get a full nights rest in
order to come in with a clear mind and be prepared for success. Testing will last until Friday May 3, 2019.
