June Speaker Schedule 26th – Social at WSU Tri-Cities, AR Technology Chris Meiers

PreliminariesRather than the usual lunch meeting, President Diahann Howard called the Installation Dinner meeting to order!

Diahann spoke of the projects completed and recognitions that our club has received over the past year. Projects and events such as Shelter Box, Duck Race, Buddy Bench, Fireside chats, a baby shower, entrepreneurial awards, scholarship awards, Tr-Citian of the Year, honoring Hal Williamson, Arbor Day tree planting, highway cleanups, an unfortunately delayed but approved beach project, Dr. Zirkle Defense Medal, monthly networking events, and the Second Chance Center donation. Our club was recognized for efforts in Public Image, ShelterBox, the battle against Polio, and

tree planting.

President Howard thanked everyone for the support she received over the previous year and spoke about how grateful she has been for the experience.

AwardsDiahann handed out a number of awards. First up was Dick Richter for service above self, always being wiling to go above and beyond to help out in any way he can.

Next was Rotarian of the Year, Steve Arneson for his help as treasurer, mentor, and for his support of the International Committee.

Finally, Larry Lowery, and myself, David Billetdeaux, were recognized as helpful club historians. To quote Diahann, “History reminds us of where we come from and who we are, but we are constantly changing as a people and as a club.”

AnnouncementsFinally, President Howard passed the torch to incoming President Bob Tibbatts, and recognized his wife Judy Tibbatts as well.

President Tibbatts thanked Diahann profusely for her hard work over the year, and presented her with two awards. The first award was the Past President plaque and gavel. Next, he presented her with a secret award for stepping up, being persistent, and making the Tri-Citian of the Year event a huge success. Diahann received a lovely blue Outstanding Leadership in Chairing 2018 Tri-Citian of the Year event desk award with a quote from Secretary James Mattis: “It’s often in the service to others that we are able to have the biggest and most positive impact.”

RemindersIn place of the regular Tuesday meeting next week there will be an event at the WSU Tri-Cities Campus next week. It is four to six pm at the Student Union Building. To get there, if coming from South on GW Parkway, turn right on University Drive, right on Crimson Drive, and park in the CIC Parking Lot. Walk through the CIC building and the Student Union Building will be southeast of the CIC. There will be some augmented and virtual reality headsets available to demo, so bring your Dramamine!

Hal’s Humor“Has your son decided what he wants to be when he grows up?” I asked my friend.“He wants to be a garbageman,” he replied.“That’s an unusual ambition to have at such a young age.”“Not really. He thinks that garbagemen work only on Tuesdays
