Helen’s Corner….
As you all know, Phil
and I have been overseas,
we had the best holiday,
everything was amazing,
we really enjoyed it, but
after a great Holiday it's
always lovely to come home. Coming home to
Richfield is fantastic, firstly coming through the
front gates you're greeted with our beautiful gar-
dens, then as you meet the other residents it's al-
ways a wonderful welcome from everyone, we real-
ly are very lucky to be living here at Richfield.
I would like to thank sincerely Vicki Davis and Tri-
cia Shipham for looking after things so well while
I was away. I also thank Tricia Needham for look-
ing after the in house TV.
All three ladies did a fabulous job and kept every-
thing running smoothly.
Thank you all very much…..Helen

Something for all you romantics.
An elderly couple had just learned how to send text messages on their mobie phones. The wife was a
romantic type and the husband was more of a no-nonsense guy. One afternoon the wife went out to
meet a friend for coffee. She decided to send her husband a romantic text message and she wrote: "If
you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If you are eating,
send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you."
The husband texted back to her: "I'm on the toilet. Please advise."

SMILE….
At a wedding ceremony, the pastor asked if an-
yone had anything to say concerning the union
of the bride and groom. It was their time to
stand up and talk, or forever hold their peace.
The moment of utter silence was broken by a
young beautiful woman carrying a child. She
started walking toward the pastor slowly.
Everything quickly turned to chaos.
The bride slapped the groom.
The groom's mother fainted.
The groomsmen started giving each other looks
and wondering how best to help save the situa-
tion.
The pastor asked the woman,
"Can you tell us why you came forward? What
do you have to say?"
The woman replied, "We can't hear you in the
back."
Garden Club meets the second Saturday of the month in the Craft Room at
10.30 am…...All Welcome.
Richfield Garden Club meets on the second Saturday of every month in the craft
room and new members are very welcome. Why not come along and join us. We
would love to see you.
There were 14 members at our meeting this month and apologies from some mem-
bers who were unable to attend.
The Village looks a little bare with all the trees pruned back ready for their Spring growth.
Village Fete
There are still three months before our Richfield Fete to be held in late October this year, so there is
still time to pot some plants to sell.
Choose plants which will look their best and flower in Spring. Herbs are also very popular, so start now
to plant seeds to be ready for sale at the Fete. Be sure to label your pots with the correct name of each
plant. Spare pots are located in the Garden Club cupboard.
Jams, pickles and preserves are always quick to sell so jars of these will be welcome too.
Di showed us some wonderful photos of her trip to Monet’s Garden in Giverny, Paris. She spent many
hours wandering through the gardens with their colourful displays.
Rose told us of a wonderful plant she saw called Agave Americana, which has a gigantic stem of
white/yellow flowers which grows up to 14 feet high.
Bus Trip
We are planning a bus trip in November to The Big Bouquet. Further details later.
Garden of the Month
Ferns are at their best in the cool weather and our Village Fernery looks lovely at the moment. Situated
near the bridge between the two lakes, it is worth a stroll to enjoy the variety of ferns and plants.
Next meeting on Saturday 13 August, 2016, from 10.30 am in the craft room.
Happy gardening

Please return books to the basket in the Main Library or the Large
Print Library. The basket for returns is now set on a table to allevi-
ate the necessity of those returning books to the shelves having to
bend……(we are all getting a little older and our bodies are not as
supple as they used to be).
Thank you for donating your used Magazines (any variety). We can never have too many and it
is wonderful to see some Residents sitting in the sun-filled lounge areas and reading a book or a
magazine that has come from our Library areas.
Thank you & happy reading.

Book Club….August……
On the last Wednesday in June, we met as usual in the Restaurant for lunch
followed by our discussion
The topic in June was Religion or Spirituality.
Fiona read a book on the Dissolution of the monasteries.
Before 1536 there were 800 monasteries in Britain. 4 years later there were none. Henry 8th had defied
the Pope in divorcing his wife and remarrying. He then established a new Church with himself as the
Head. He then suppressed the monasteries and sold the buildings to lay people. He also acquired all the
golden artefacts and the lead from the roof for his use. The priests and nuns were dismissed and had to
find new occupations or survive as best they could.
Helen read Tim Costello's edited a book Another Way to Love.
He talked of a visit to Darfur, and the evil situation he found there. Originating with powerful leaders
who suppressed the poor thus creating a society where crime was common. Many people were dis-
placed due to starvation. Christian groups were the first to move in to provide assistance for these hun-
gry refugees
Heather read a book called Celebration of Love .The biography of Mary O'Hara
She became famous as an Irish Harpist and soprano. She became a Benedictine Nun for twelve years
and then left the order. She later continued her musical career and married, then with her husband went
to live in Tanzania where he worked as a journalist. A film was made of her life.
On August 31st our time will be discussing one of our favourite authors……. Marian.

Golfers……..
The old golfer paced anxiously up and down outside the emergency room of the Sandringham Hospital
near Royal Melbourne Golf Course.
Inside the doctors were operating to remove a golf ball accidentally driven down a player’s throat.
The sister-in-charge noticed the old golfer and went to reassure him.
“It won’t be long now,” she said. “You’re a relative?”
“No, no, lassie. It’s my ball.”

App hAPPy. …….August If you like to read magazines then you will be glad you have an iPad. There are several ways to enjoy them on your iPad and they are usually much cheaper than buying the print-ed editions. If you go to the App Store and search your favorite titles you will find most have a digital version available these days. American magazines tend to be cheaper @ about $2 but Australian magazines are still too expensive. Hurst mags from America offer very attractive initial subscriptions but be wary of automatic renewals at full price. You need to block that through your subscription account before the due date if you don't want to continue.
The big downside is that you can't easily pass them on to friends so I am doing the next best thing and sharing with you a wonderful source of end-less free magazines on every topic you can imagine. You can't download them or store them but you can 'stream' them to your device whenever you want to read a magazine and are connected to the internet. This is no problem if you have a router and wifi set up at home as do most of us. Visit the App Store, look for Issuu and download it. It's a little bit complicated to get the hang of as there are (too) many options but I recommend you persist as there are some good reads there and it's all free. You will soon get the hang of it and have an endless source of free magazines to enjoy. ….Helen Bell

Cinema Snippets - August….
It seems there is some interest in Game of Thrones for our next Sunday serial. I have man-
aged to get all six seasons so it will start from series 1 episode 1 on Sunday 31st July. It has
an IMDB rating of 9.5 which is exceptionally high. Below see an (edited) extract from Wik-
ipedia which describes the series better than I can. There are many episodes so this series
will last us a few months. It is much more fun to watch with a group of friends and we have
an exceptional theatre here, so please come along if you can. We start at 6:00 pm sharp and will decide on the first
night how many episodes to watch each week.
Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Beinoff and D.B. Weiss. It is an
adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is titled A
Game of Thrones. It is filmed at Titanic Studios in Belfast and on location elsewhere in Northern Ireland, as well as
in Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, Spain, Scotland, and the United States. The series premiered on HBO in the
United States on April 17, 2011, and its sixth season concluded on June 26, 2016. Game of Thrones has attracted
record numbers of viewers on HBO and attained an exceptionally broad and active international fan base. It has
received widespread acclaim by critics, particularly for its acting, complex characters, story, scope, and production
values, but has been criticised for scenes of sex and violence. It is not a suitable show for children!
The series is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos and interweaves several plot lines with a large
ensemble cast. The first narrative arc follows a dynastic conflict among competing claimants for succession to the
Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms, with other noble families fighting for independence from it; the second covers
the attempts to reclaim the throne by the exiled last scion the realm's deposed ruling dynasty; the third chronicles
the rising threat of the impending winter and the legendary creatures and fierce peoples of the North. There are 6
seasons to date with the possibility of a further two.
Hope to see you in the cinema for this serial. Helen Bell

Graeme & Margaret Butts are leaving the Vil-

sorry to see them go but we cannot let them
leave without saying a big THANK YOU to
Graeme for all he has done over the past few
years organising the Putting. He will
acknowledge that he has had helpers, but he
has spent many hours compiling records and
keeping scores etc. We wish Graeme and Mar-
garet all the best for their future and hope they
will visit the Village from time to time.

SENIORS & COMPUTERS…...
As we Silver Surfers know, sometimes we have
trouble with our computers.
Yesterday, I had a problem, so I called George,
the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks
like Mission Control, and asked him to come
over.
George clicked a couple of buttons and solved
the problem.
As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So,
what was wrong?
He replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.'
I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless
inquired, 'An, ID ten T error? What's that? In
case I need to fix it again.'
George grinned..
'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error be-
fore? 'No,' I replied.
'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure
it out.'
So I wrote down:
ID10T
I used to like George, the little smart****

Important Notice…...
As you are probably aware the attendance at Friday
evening films has been diminishing for some time for
a variety of reasons - cold weather, football broad-
casts, winter escapes, and Friday is a popular evening
for socializing in the restaurant or with friends. We
have had no more than three or four people at this
time for last few weeks, unless it is a particularly pop-
ular film. Counter to that, the Friday afternoon
screenings are proving quite popular with good
attendance. Several people then go on from the film
to dinner and still get home relatively early. Our oper-
ators have been spread rather thinly lately (with no
complaints - thank you) as many of us have been on
holiday breaks and it has been left to too few people
to fill the slots.
For these reasons the 7:30 Friday night screening is
cancelled for the foreseeable future. The normal Fri-
day night film will screen at 4:00pm every Friday from
now on.
New schedule is{
