RICHARD BURGON for DEPUTY LEADER - Claranet Soho

I am delighted to have received the MPs’ nominations needed to be a Deputy Leadership candidate. To ensure I am on the ballot paper, I now need the nomination of 33 Constituency Labour Parties by February 14. Members deserve the widest possible choice in this important election. Please encourage your CLP to nominate me for Labour’s Deputy Leader to help make sure I get on the ballot paper. RICHARD BURGON for DEPUTY LEADER WHAT I STAND FOR A campaigning Deputy Leader: I’ll build powerful campaigns rooted in local communities that show, day after day, whose side we’re on. Backing our progressive policies: I fully support our previous two manifestos, which continue to offer real solutions to the problems our communities face. People-powered campaigning: I’ll strengthen our campaigning and messaging by focussing on 10 key policies that are easily explainable on the doorstep. A powerful voice for members: Our members and trade union affiliates ensure we’re rooted in the realities of our communities. I back a fully democratic system for members to choose their Labour candidates. Reconnecting with all our heartlands: I’ll chair a Special Commission on rebuilding our lost support. Labour has to reconnect with all of our former heartlands and beyond – whether in towns or cities, Leave or Remain – and we must reflect the full diversity of the working-class in 21st century multicultural Britain. I’m a proud socialist who has always stood up to the establishment and for the oppressed. I’m Secretary of the Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs, founded by Tony Benn, and I support the values of peace, equality and socialism, which are now more necessary than ever. I voted against the 2015 Tory Welfare Bill and supported Jeremy in both leadership elections. I successfully sued The Sun for defamation and used the £30,000 compensation to fund a local internship. Before being an MP, I was a trade union lawyer fighting for the rights of workers who had been treated unfairly and faced discrimination.
