Newsletter
W elcome back to Riara Springs Academy, a home away from
home. The children certainly had some time to relax over the
December holiday and it is evident from the excitement and
positive energy being shown by them. They have been filling the
classrooms with great excitement since the beginning of the year.
A new school year brings with it exciting things for the children; a new class,
new friends and for many even a new teacher. We are thrilled to see the
excitement and we shall consistently ensure that your child enjoys a successful
and exciting experience in school. Our goal, as always, is to create a positive
school climate that maximizes every child’s potential for learning, while developing strong co-curricular values and skills in a friendly learning
environment. Be assured that we shall do our best to make this school year an
enjoyable time for your child, and also a time filled with real learning. To
achieve this we shall embark on activities geared towards holistic education
guided by the theme ’Scaling New Heights’.
A warm welcome to pupils and their parents who have joined us this year; We
value you and we look forward to partnering with you as we share exciting
times and great learning experiences in 2017.

TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA
Last year the school organized an eight day trip to South Africa, a leading tourist
destination in Africa which boasts of some of the most attractive sites in the world.
The visit was open to pupils from classes 3 to 7 and took place from 24th to 30th
November 2016. Pupils had a chance to visit unique geographical and historical sites as
well as participate in incredible cultural and social activities. They visited the most
magnificient, modern and sophisticated cities in South Africa, Kruger National Park,
Table Mountain, Apatheid Museum among many other places. The visit offered an
enriching and memorable learning experience for the learners. The trip enabled the
children to broaden their already open minds. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed
themselves.

ICT/SPORTS CAMP
The ICT and Sports departments organised an exciting holiday camp during the
December holidays. The camp took place from Monday 5th to Friday 9th December.
The theme for the camp was ‘Techno-sports adventure’. In ICT the children were empowered with skills in game creation. Subject
integration was also a key focus during the camp. The activities they engaged in were
level based and they were able to engage in age appropriate technology activities.
The afternoons were fun filled with lots of exciting sports activities at different fun
spots around Nairobi among them GP-Karting and Lunar Park as well as Rock City
Gardens. The pupils had an incredible time with computers and a great time keeping fit
with sports activities.

ACADEMIC MEETINGS
We held departmental and level academic analysis meetings during the holiday. This is
a critical meeting in the Riara Group of schools
where teachers together with education
specialists analyze and evaluate the performance
of every pupil/student. This helps us to properly
align our academic structures in readiness for
the next term. Through the forum, teachers are
able to formulate workable solutions for chal-
lenges faced during the teaching-learning pro-
cess. Teachers have been looking forward to the
beginning of the year to enrich the teaching and
learning process by rolling out exciting lessons
guided by the strategies and work plans that were discussed during the December
caucus.

RGS CHARITY DAY
WE CARE, WE SHARE!
This is a day set aside in the Riara schools calendar where we share with the
less fortunate members of our society. Last year, the event took place on
Wednesday, 7th December 2017. As part of our corporate social responsi-
bility last year we had a chance to be with children from Mama Fatuma chil-
dren’s home. The children were picked from the home in Eastleigh and treated to a tour of the National Museums before going to Riara Road
Primary School grounds where they had fun activities including soccer,
computer games, bouncing castles, playroom fun and dance among others.
The directors together with the members of staff interacted with the
children on this day. The children had a day full of fun and were later hosted
to a sumptuous lunch courtesy of the directors of Riara Schools.
Ahsante sana! for your generous donations to this worthy cause.
