MARCH 17, 2019 SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
A VIEW FROM THE PEW
WITH JESUS TO THE CROSS
Connection to the Cross this Week
Second Sunday of Lent
Listening to God
“And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is my Son, my Chosen;
listen to Him!’” —Luke 9:35
Following Jesus means learning to listen to Him as God told the apostles when they were in the cloud. It
is only possible to listen to God if we give God time. Listening in prayer starts with giving God attention,
which is much more difficult than giving attention to what is visible before you. Learning to listen to God
involves finding a way that you can best keep your attention focused on the God you cannot see.
Most importantly, we need to rest in God. Simply ask God to give your soul rest during the prayer time.
Remember that God speaks in a “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12). Your goal this week is to find what
helps you become sufficiently still to hear that small voice.
Closing Prayer
Lord God, you have told us to listen to Jesus, your beloved Son.
Jesus, we long to hear your voice, to follow in your way; but
We are so often self-absorbed or distracted, or our faith is weak.
Help us to dwell deeply in our heart, O Christ, so that your Holy
Spirit may dwell in us.
Strengthen us to pray in new ways this week, ways that will help us
hear your voice, ways that will show us your way.
Help us to shape ourselves that you may speak within us, that we
may be yours,
and you ours.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
forever and ever.
AMEN!
