An up and coming guitarvirtuoso from our own Mid-Ohio Valley, Buskirk playsin style known as “AmericanPrimitive.” This rare artform, made popular in ‘70’sby Leo Kottke, has it’s back-ground in the Delta Blues ofthe 1920s, ‘30s, and ‘40s aswell as bluegrass, jazz andclassical.

Band competition highlights Friday BashFriday’s activities at the Blues Bash will open with a blues competition

at 4 p.m. where bands, solo or duo blues acts from the tri-state region willcompete for cash, prizes and the PB&Js sponsorship to the BluesFoundation’s International Blues Challenge, held annually in Memphis,Tenn.

Admission is $5 with kids 12 and under admitted free.Then at 10 p.m. the music will move to the Juke Joint Stage at the Court

Street Grill where the Eric Jerardi Band will perform. Jerardi has blues inhis soul and he delivers it with incredible tone, depth and texture.

Hailing from Detroit, calling themselves a Blues band and soundinglike a big ‘ol slab of rock, the Muggs are a 4-on-the-floor, full-tilt-boogie,power machine. This is no nonsense, bottom heavy, guitar oriented, orig-inal blues rock for fans who appreciate the likes of Paul Kossoff, PeterGreen and Joe Walsh.

Blues school for kidsCelebrating its third year, the

Blues School for Kids promises tobe a fun-filled afternoon for chil-dren age 4 and up.

Two sessions of interactivemusical workshops includingBlues History and Song Writingwith a free lunch included will beoffered.

Todd Burge, a local musicianand songwriter who worked for atime with Chicago blues artist andeducator Fruteland Jackson, willbe conducting the Blues School.As a musician with both feet plant-ed firmly in the blues, Todd real-izes the value of providing chil-dren with a genuine musical expe-rience.

Big Bend Blues Bash Cornhole ClashOne of the largest Cornhole Tournaments in the midwest, with a

guaranteed purse of $4,000, will be held July 29-31 in Pomeroy duringthe Big Bend Blues Bash.

Cornhole has been said to have originated in Germany in the 14thCentury and then rediscovered in the hills of Kentucky over 100 yearsago. The truth is, who really knows? What we do know is the game isgreat fun for all ages, can be played anywhere, and is highly addictive.
