1.1 IntroductionInfrared (IR)remotecontrolsdonotworkproperlywhenobstaclesbetweentheremotecontrolandtheaudio/videodevicesdisturbtheoperatingsignal.Thisproblemcanbesolvedusingradio frequency(RF)asacarrierforIRcommands.TheRemoteControl,incombinationwiththeExtender,canoperateaudio/videodevicesfromvirtuallyanylocation.

WhenthefrontblasteroftheExtendercannotreachalldevicesortransmitswithtoomuchpower,youcanusetheincludedSingleIRemitters.YoucansetuptheSingle IR emittersintwoways:• TheSingleIRemittersin combination with the front blaster. WhenthereislimitedspacearoundtheIRreceiversofthedevices,forinstanceinasmall

closet.• TheSingleIRemittersinstead of the front blaster. WhenyouwanttotransmitIRsignalsveryaccurately,youturnoffthefrontblasterand

Onceyouhavefoundthebestposition,youcanoptionallymounttheExtenderontoapieceoffurnitureusingscrews.

1 Drivethescrewsintoarack,closetoranotherpieceoffurniture.ProvidesufficientspacetoconnectthepoweradapterandtoslidetheExtenderinplace.

PlugtheSingleIRemittersintotheExtender.

AttachtheSingleIRemitterstoaneighboringsurfacefacingtheIRreceiver(foraestheticpurposesorwhenitisdifficulttolocatetheIRreceiver).–or–AttachtheSingleIRemittersdirectlytotheIRreceiversofyourdevices.

MakesuretheSingleIRemittersareconnectedproperlyandthattheyareplacedwithinrangeoftheIRreceiversoftheA/Vdevices.

D NoteThefrontblasterisanadditionaladdressableIRport.TheIRsignalsarenotsentviaIRemittersbutthroughthefrontoftheExtender.ThatwayitallowsyoutocontrolprojectorsandIR-receiverswhichareplacedoutsidetherackorcloset.

3.1 How to Set the Extender IDsTheExtendercanbeusedinseveralsituations:outofsightorinsideacloset.SincetheExtender‘communicates’withtheRemoteControl,youmustsetthesameExtender ID(identity)onbothappliances.ThesettingsdependonwhetheryouhaveasingleExtenderormultipleExtenders.

Single ExtenderWhenyouuseonlyoneExtender,youcankeepthedefaultsettingfortheExtenderID(ID=0).IntheLink Extenders to componentsstepoftheNewProjectWizardoftheConfigurationProgram,addExtender0totheproject.RefertotheConfigurationProgram’sOnlineHelpformoreinformation.

Multiple ExtendersIfyouwanttooperateseveralofyourdevicesindependently,e.g.groupedindifferentlocations,youneedmultipleExtenders.WhenusingseveralExtenders,itisimportanttoassignaunique Extender IDtoeachExtender.Youcanassign16ExtenderIDs(from0to9andfromAtoF).1 ChooseanExtenderIDfortheExtenderbyturningtheExtenderIDdialwithasmall

screwdriver.

3.4 How to Adjust the Power Level of the IR OutputsAtthebackoftheExtender,thereare4dipswitches,oneforeachIROutput.UsethesedipswitchestoconfigurethepowerleveloftheSingleIRemitters.

• Raise the power levelsifthereisadevicenearthatmightcauseIRinterferencesuchasaplasmaTV.

• Lower the power levelsifyouwanttooperate2ormoreidenticaldevicesthatareplacedneareachotherinordertopreventthedevicesfromreceivingtheIRsignalintendedfortheotherdevice.

4 Troubleshooting

The busy LED on the Extender blinks while the Remote Control is not being used• ThisindicatesthatanotherRemoteControlisbeingusedintheproximityoftheExtender.
