RFID Best Practices for the Oil & Gas Industry RFID Best Practices for the Oil & Gas Industry Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a proven automated data collection technology being rapidly deployed across diverse industries. The founding members of the Oil & Gas RFID Solutions Group (OGR) believe the technology offers significant value for this industry, and that our collaboration and cooperation is essential to attaining every benefit. The OGR is supported by a consortium of oil & gas companies, technology solutions providers, and two universities -- the University of Houston and Texas A&M University -- with strong ties to the industry. The OGR is chartered to analyze the industry’s current and potential use of existing RFID technology and identify programs to accelerate its adoption. Thinking forward, OGR will strive to anticipate the industry’s needs and use our voice to influence the direction and focus of commercial RFID technology development. Sharing their different perspectives, group members seek industry-wide applications for RFID and launch industry- wide initiatives that enable use of the technology. The OGR has leveraged Texas A&M’s 100-acre Oil & Gas research facilty to create an RFID Lab with the capability to test and develop solutions in simulated real-world environments. Outreach programs share expertise developed by OGR across the industry, through white papers, educational programs, application briefs, and solution recommenda- tions. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a proven automated

data collection technology being rapidly deployed across

diverse industries. The founding members of the Oil & Gas

RFID Solutions Group (OGR) believe the technology offers

significant value for this industry, and that our collaboration

and cooperation is essential to attaining every benefit.

The OGR is supported by a consortium of oil & gas

companies, technology solutions providers, and two

universities -- the University of Houston and Texas A&M

University -- with strong ties to the industry.

The OGR is chartered to analyze the industry’s current

and potential use of existing RFID technology and identify

programs to accelerate its adoption. Thinking forward, OGR

will strive to anticipate the industry’s needs and use our

voice to influence the direction and focus of commercial

RFID technology development.

Sharing their different perspectives, group members seek

industry-wide applications for RFID and launch industry-

wide initiatives that enable use of the technology. The OGR

has leveraged Texas A&M’s 100-acre Oil & Gas research

facilty to create an RFID Lab with the capability to test and

develop solutions in simulated real-world environments.

Outreach programs share expertise developed by OGR

across the industry, through white papers, educational

programs, application briefs, and solution recommenda-

tions. Companies in the oil & gas industry are encouraged

to contact OGR for information about RFID capabilities and

solutions, data standards, project plans, and system

requirements.

The Oil & Gas RFID Solutions Group solicits input from companies that have implemented, or are considering, RFID solutions.
