Thursday after April 18, or April 24, 2014.
Formerly, Icelanders used the ‘Old Norse calendar,’ which divided the year into two seasons:
winter and summer.
Although the Icelandic late April climate isn’t
considered ‘summer-like,’ Icelanders still celebrate the First Day of Summer with special parades and
sporting events.
