Theodore ""as born on October 4, 1897, to August and Carolme- (Wodtke) Reuscher in southern Illinois. He was one o f thirteen children. He came to Bremer County from: Campbell Hill, Illinois, in 1914, at the age of sixteern years , to work as a seasonal farm labor· er. He first worked for Ed Waltemate, then William Waltemate,li»oth In Douglas Township. Theodore and Emma Hopp.enworth were united in marriage on Feb· ruary 1, 192(), at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli.

The farm bouse had been enlarged once at an earli· er date, thel'll after Theodore and Emma purchased the farm, th"!{ enlarged and remodeled it again. They lived there the rest of their days , except for the year 1963, whe~ their son, LeeRoy, lived on the farm . Their son, Harold, farmed the land after Theodore retired from farming, but he was always out there helping. A !tea Theodore 's death in 1980, his son, Har· !an, bought ttlhe acreage and now lives there .

Theodore .and Emma were members at St. John's Lutheran Cburch at Western Douglas, and are now buried in the-church cemete.ry. Emma died on Novem· ber 15, 1977, and Theodore died on August 20, 1980. They had twenty-five grandchildren and nine· teen great·g,randchildren.

Their six children are all living and are: Eileen (Mrs. Joe Luckie)• of Sun Valley, California; Evelyn (Mrs. Paul Brase) of Douglas Township; Rosalie (Mrs. Alvin Brase) of Ft.. Atkinson, Iowa; Harold of Polk Town· ship; LeeR~ of Nashua, Iowa; and Harlan of Douglas Township.

MR. AND MRS. FRED REWOLDT Fred Re...,oldt and Martha Bockholt were married

on January 4, 1925. Fred was the son of Wilhelmine (Nolte) and Fred Rewoldt, Sr., and was born in Doug­las townshiiP. He attended rural schools in Douglas township and graduated from Wartburg College In 1905, and from Highland Park College In Des Moines in 1907. He earned a Doctor of Law degree from Drake Unlu.ersity in 1912, where he daily milked the cow belon~g to the president of the college to earn some of his~ollege money.

Martha and Fred Rewoldt

Fred Rewoldl had participated in many endeavors during his lifetime. As a young man, he was in the gro· eery and hardware business in Frederika. Later he practiced !law in Frederika and in Waverly in partner· ship with William Wehrmacher. He served In the Iowa State House of Representatives from 1923 to 1925 and as Bremer County attorney In the years 1932 and 1933. In 1926, he was granted a charter to establish The Farmers Savings Bank in Frederika, which he continued to operate with the help of family and staff, until his d~tath.

Martha was the daughter of Henry and Mary (Spies) Bockholt and lived in Franklin township. She met Fred when he was campaigning for the office of State Rep:resentative and he called at their residence to ask for \heir votes . They were the parents of three children: Gerhardt, who died in infancy and is burled in the S~. Paul 's Lutheran Cemetery at Siegel; Frederic, who lives in Frederika and is current Presi· dent of The Farmers Savings Bank: and Robert, who lives In California.

Mr. and Mrs. Rewoldt were members of the St. John's L~theran Church In Frederika. Martha worked in the Fanners Savings Bank, as well as Fred's sister, Adele, along with other employees. Fred was espe-

cially grateful to Erwin O'Connell for his loyal and ded· icated work at the bank lor many years, until his death during heart surgery in 1955.

Fred was an avid checker player, participated in many tournaments throughout the midwest, and held the office of President of the Iowa Checker Associa· lion.

Martha Rewoldt died in January of 1971, and Fred died in May, 1978. They are buried at the cemetery of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Siegel.

Fred's Immediate family included brother, Werner Rewoldt, who married Lillian Willbrandt and had live children; Emma Miller (Mrs. Herman) who had three children; and Adele Bohl (Mrs. Arnold), who had three adopted children and moved to Grant Park, Illinois, after her marriage.

Martha's immediate family were brother Henry Bockholt of Franklin township, who had three chil­dren, and sister, Lena Albrecht (Mrs. Henry), who had four children and lived near Fairbank.

MR. AND MRS. FREDERIC REWOLDT

Frederic Dean Rewoldt was born in Frederika to Fred and Martha Bockholt Rewoldt. He has always lived In Frederika, with the exception of the years 1932-1939, when the family lived In Waverly. His father served as Bremer County Attorney, and estab· lished a law office there. Frederic started working for his father in the Farmers Savings Bank in Frederika, when he was a freshman In high school. He continued working at the bank after completing his education, and Is currently President.

Frederic was married to Mary Agnes Budweg of rural New Hampton in 1954. Mary was the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth McCracken Budweg. Before their marriage, she had graduated from the University of Iowa and had taught school at Albia, Iowa, and Waterloo, Iowa. She taught in Frederika after mar· riage.

Frederic and Mary are members of St. John's Lutheran Church, where they are active members and have held various offices of the church. Frederic held the position of Frederika town clerk for twenty years. He has been a member of the board of directors of Butler·Bremer Telephone Company since 1955. He is a long·tlme member of the local Boy Scout Executive committee, and is a charter member of the Frederika Volunteer Fire Department.

Mary's activities included 4-H leader, Tripoli Com· munity School Director, Bremer County Extension Council, Boy Scout Council, and Bremer County GOP Centr11l Committee member. One of Mary's proudest moments was seeing four boys from her cub scout den continue their work in Boy Scouting and become Eagle Scouts. Those four boys were David Hoffman, Clifford Balvanz, John Rewoldt, and Tim Brase.

The Rewoldts are parents of Margaret Jane (now Mrs. Andrew C. Smith), who is a registered dietician with a master's degree from the State University of Iowa and lives in Guttenburg, Iowa; and Frederic John, who graduated from University of Northern Iowa. He Is currently enrolled in the law college of Drake University in Des Moines after working for three years for Vail Associates, a resort and real estate business in Vail, Colorado.

DR. ANDREW AND MARGARET JANE REWOLDT SMITH

Margaret Jane Rewoldt was born in 1955 to Frederic D. and Mary Agnes Budweg Rewoldt. She attended Frederika Elementary School through fourth grade. Margaret attended grades filth through twelfth at Tripoli Community Schools, where she enjoyed cheerleading, girls' track, band, chorus, and many, many friends. She drove Bob Miller's old 1950 Mercury up and down the Tripoli "strip." Three of her best friends from Frederika, Linda Buenger Brennan, Darla Jaschen Dwyer, and Connie Matthias Dawson chummed around with her and together they wer~ known as the "Fred Four."

She attended St. Olaf College In Northfield, Minne· sola, for two years, gaining a background in basic sci· ence, and then tr11nsferred to Eastern lllinols Unlversi· ty, where she graduated with honors with a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. She completed post-graduate training at the University of Iowa, where she earned an M.A. in Nutrition Education and became a Regis· tered Dietitian.

At the University of Iowa she met her husband, Andrew C. Smith. He was a medical student and asked her to counsel one of his patients on a Kosher liquid diet (the patient was Jewish). Her first date with Andrew was eating vegetable soup in her dorm room because he couldn't afford McDonald's. They were married in 1980 in Frederika at St. John's Lutheran Church. They lived and worked in Waterloo until .1~83, when they moved to Guttenberg, where Andy JOtned Family Medicine Associates. Margaret works as a dietitian in the Guttenberg area and teaches at Clarke College in Dubuque.

Andy and Margaret became extremely Interested In family history when they visited Rewoldt family cousins in Bokeloh, West Germany, and McCracken family cousins In Northern Ireland, In 1983.

In November, 1984, their first child, Frederic Andrew, was born; and the three of them love life along the Mississippi.

JEFFREY AND ANN REYNOLDS

It was a cold, wet, and snowy day on Apri19, 1983, when Jeffrey Dean Reynolds and Ann Marie Diemer were to start their new lives together as husband and wife at the Richfield church, rural Sumner.

Ann had graduated in June, 1982 from St. Francis Hospital School of Radiology In Waterloo. She worked at the Franklin General Hospital at Hampton as an X-Ray technician before she married Jeff and came back to Sumner.

Jeff had also been away for four years. In August, 1977, he enlisted In the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base inS an Anto­nio, Texas; Shepard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls Texas; Mountain Home Air Force Base in Mountai~ Base, Idaho; two years In Lakenheath, England; and the last year in Plattsburg, New York. He was an air· craft maintenance specialist and was a sergeant when he was discharged.
