There’s been no shortage of advice and opinion on the subject and no shortage of prescriptions for redressing the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles. Mentoring to support those on the way up; coaching to overcome the

unconscious biases held by men (and women) that impede the progress of women; consciousness raising events and Lean In Circles; targets and quotas. There’s even been talk of revolution.

The Athena Doctrine

The Athena Doctrine, put forward by John Gerzema and Michael D’Antonio, and based on a survey of 64,000 people around the world, suggests that there has already been a sufficient cultural change for many of the attributes traditionally associated with women to be viewed as more important in leaders than the more traditional male traits.

Aspiring women should start preparing to ride the wave of change that is working in their favour anyway.
