Review System Presented by

Background……..Background……..“The ICC is extremely grateful to both Sri Lanka and India for agreeing to take part in this trial. We want to see if we can enhance the game by reducing or removing the few clearly incorrect ones,” ICC’s acting chief executive officer David Richardson said in a statement. The trial will be reviewed after the three-Test series gets over in August to assess whether it was successful and worth persevering with.

The Review SystemThe Review SystemThe system will see the fielding and batting sides allowed three unsuccessful
appeals to the umpire per innings to change a decision if it is perceived to have been incorrect.
These appeals can be made only by the batsman in receipt of the umpire’s original decision or the captain of the fielding side, in both cases by the
player making a “T” sign with both forearms at shoulder height.
The on-field umpire will consult with the TV umpire, who will review available television coverage of the incident before relaying fact-based
information back to his colleague.
The on-field umpire will then deliver his decision either by raising his finger to indicate “out” or by crossing his hands in a horizontal position side to side
in front and above his waist three times – as per a “safe” decision by an official in baseball.

What is Review System? What is Review System?
Allows players to seek reviews, by the third umpire, of decisions by the on-field
umpires on whether or not a batsman has been dismissed.

When can it be requested? When can it be requested?
Player can request a review of any decision by the on-field officials concerning whether
or not a batsman is dismissed, with the exception of "timed out". No other umpiring decisions are eligible for review. Each team can make three unsuccessful requests per innings, which must be made within a few seconds of the ball becoming dead; once made, the requests cannot be withdrawn.

Who can request it?Who can request it?
Only the batsman involved in a dismissal can ask for a review of an "out" decision; in
a "not out", only the captain or acting captain of the fielding team. In both cases
players can consult on-field teammates but signals from off the field are not permitted.

How can it be requested? How can it be requested?Review request can be made by the player
with a 'T' sign; the umpire will consult the TV umpire, who will review TV coverage of the
incident before relaying back fact-based information. The field umpire can then either
reverse his decision or stand by it; he indicates "out" with a raised finger and "not out" by crossing his hands in a horizontal position side to side in front and above his
waist three times.
