Lynx Attract

I took part in the shooting of three adverts, that included zombies, western scenes and lots of different shots. The first advertisement for Lynx Attract was a advert containing a western showdown, between the lynx product and another similar product. Ending in the Lynx brand winning. For the second and third advert we came up with a zombie theme to follow the conventions of the horror genre.

We were able to edit one of the adverts that we shot, I decided to go along with the first advertisement that we shot, mainly Because their was more of a variety for that advert, I also likedThe western idea and felt that a lot of techniques could be usedwithin the editing process.

Within the shooting of the Lynx Attract advert I played the role of on of the “bad guys” who held the other branded product. I also helped along with the rest of the group to position the shots so that we had a variety of shots to play with and so that each shot followed the Conventions of the western genre. During the editing process of the assignment layered overlays and filters to the different shots to recreate a sense of a western feel, the graininess and saturation of the advert give the advert that desert/old like style. I used fast paced, quick snappy shots during the showdown to create the action element and finished the advert of with a pact shot that included the colours of blue and pink toestablish the fact that the product is for both sexes.

During the production process I learnt many different techniques that came useful to filming the advertisement and editing it, and making the overall product look better.

I learnt how to position the camera so that each shot fit the conventions of the genre I was aiming for, also to get a variety of different shots (e.g. panning shots, long shots, close ups) so that there is a lot more to play with during the editing process at the end of the production. I learnt how to work as a team, and managed to work together and compromise with people over how we were going to film the shots.

During the editing process I learnt how to add a lot of different effects to make the footage look as realistic as I could, using overlays and filters to make the advert look more western and using a lot of images and editing effects to make the pan shot look appealing and relatable to the product.

During the production process we found it a problem shooting the third advert as the make up artists turned up late, so most of the day consisted of waiting around for make up to be done to create the zombie characters.

I feel that the advert that I chose ran the most smoothly but had to remember and work things out so that we followed the continuity convention, and that the 180 degree rule wasn’t broken in any of the footage we shot. We had to make sure that other people around the location did not get in the way of the shot and that the shots were clear on what we were trying to show.

I feel that the production of the advert I decided to go along with went extremely well considering the busy location and was the advert in which everyone in the group was involved and worked together the best. Although we had a laugh during the filming we also worked hard to create the best footage that we could.

During editing I feel I did a good job of capturing the western element and made the advert look as professional as I could with the footage available. We followed the 180 degree rule and the continuity convention well.

What Would I Do If I Could Start Again?

If I could the start the the whole project again I would try to shot a better variety of shots so that it was easier to edit after filming. I would try to make the edit flow more smoothly and maybe make the characters dress up in western clothing to capture the western element better and make the advert over all more effective.

If I were to start again I would probably choose the same advert again and work with the same people as I feel we did a decent job of filming and working together, as it was our first time at using the camera’s. In the editing I feel I would use the same effects, overlays and filters, as I think they worked well and effectively.
