Luk 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures,

Understanding is the critical thing

Parables were given so that some could understand and others NOT understand

Eyes that see are in the Light

Eyes that do not see are in the Dark

Understanding is equated to two key analogies

Eyes and Ears, Seeing and Hearing

Why Dreams and Visions?

Dan 1:17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

Dreams & Visions are about Understanding………….

Dan 1:20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

Dan 2:27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, show unto the king;

Dan 4:7 Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

Dan 5:8 Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.

Dan 9:22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding. Dan 9:23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to show thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

Dreams & Visions are about Understanding……or NOT…….

Dan 10:1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

Dan 12:8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? ……… the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Dan 12:10 ……….and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

Dan 10:14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.

Why Dreams and Visions?

There is nothing “Mystical” about visions and dreams in the Bible

Dreams and Visions are a wonderful device that allows several key things:

a) They can be understood or NOT understood

b) They create a need for an Interpreter and Revealer

c) They facilitate highly complex symbolic spiritual constructions

d) They allow a thematic emphasis on Hearing and Seeing

e) They provide (In Daniel) a Thematic link to symbolic deathand a revealing out of sleep and darkness
