NEWSLETTER

Getting a phone call in the middle of the night is never a good thing.

I remember the second time my father had open-heart surgery. It was a long procedure and a difficult one, and after it was done the doctor called us to his office and said, “There’s

been some bleeding. We’ll let you know, but you should go home now and rest.” And so, going home that night, I listened for a phone call in the middle of the night and was awakened only to find out it was morning and it was birds singing, not the phone ringing. My father had made it through the night, and in fact he did recover from the surgery.

This is the joy we feel at Easter — but magnified. All of the hope that had been dashed on Good Friday, the terrible pressure of grief, the terrible pressure of knowing there was no future in the world, only on Sunday to be greeted not by the ringing of a telephone announcing death but the loud clear singing of alleluias.

This is the joy we have, and it’s a promise so strong that even when we do die, even when we do confront death, we have the hope and the assurance of eternal life. Easter makes it possible for us, even at the grave, to sing alleluia.

Christ is risen!

Alleluia!

Happy Easter, dear church!

Greetings from your Council. I hope that you are enjoying the wonderful change, from the snow and rain that inundated us throughout the winter, to this glorious sunshine. We need to thank God for the benefits that we receive from both the moisture and sun, and that we do witness four definite seasons.

As we lean into May, please take time to get involved with the upcoming budget review so that we can all be up to speed when our Annual Congregational Meeting comes in June.

We are scheduled to have our Informational congregation meeting May 5th in between the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. At this meeting we will be presenting the Preliminary budget for fiscal year 2019-2020, so everyone has an opportunity to share input. We would also very much appreciate a couple more people to accept nomination to our Council, for the ballot at the Annual Meeting.

We also have our Annual Congregational meeting scheduled for Sunday June 9, 2019 following the one Worship service at 9:30 a.m. If you have any questions or concerns please call me at (301-6301).

Lastly, please ponder seriously the amounts received each Sunday as compared to the amounts needed, as printed in the weekly bulletin, to keep St. Paul moving in a positive direction. We are so grateful for the incredible response in November and December to my request, but are worried about the tremendous decline, in general giving since January.

Peace!

Please join us as this will be a chance to come together for a very important involvement in community relations.

2019 Rummage Sale Wrap-Up

Since the newsletter is going to press before the rummage sale is in the history books, this is a bit premature. However, we want to thank all of you who volunteered to help with the setup of the sale, working from Monday through Friday to be sure we were ready. We want to thank everyone who work the sale on Saturday—many of the same people. It takes lots of people to make an event like this one a success. Thanks to all of you who were customers at the sale—we know you got some special bargains! Based on what we know now— with a week to go— we are expecting to have a terrific sale again this year. Watch your bulletins and the newsletter in June for a final $$$ amount. At the May meeting of WELCA, funds from the sale will be disbursed to many charitable organizations. If you want input on how those funds are spent, be sure to attend the May meeting!

The meeting will continue the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord during the Easter season. The luncheon hosts will be Marla Johnson and Nikki Rohr. The Easter meal menu will feature baked ham which will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a complementary passing dish: potatoes, vegetables, salads, breads, desserts, etc.
