To the community of Sacred Heart Catholic Church: Greetings! It is with joy and humility that I join the community of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. I am Fr. Altaire Fernandez, your new associate pastor. I graduated from Divine Word Seminary run by the SVD in Tagaytay City, Philippines and was ordained a catholic priest on May 23, 2000. I have been blessed to be assigned in wonderful parishes here in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, such as Our Lady of the Rosary in Paramount, St. Charles Borromeo in North Hollywood, and St. John Baptist De La Salle in Granada Hills. Before I came to the United States of America, I was a diocesan priest in the Diocese of San Pablo, Laguna, in the Philippines. Prior to my becoming a priest, I obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked for a few years in the secular world. But God works in mysterious ways. I believe that if we let His will be done in our life, we become who He wants us to be, and places us where it is best for us to serve Him. And it has been 18 years that I am serving the Lord, our God and his people. As a member of the community, I hope to contribute to our church’s mission to offer every person a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ. I look forward to knowing and serving you. A la comunidad de la Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón: ¡Saludos! Es con alegría y humildad que me uno a la comunidad de la Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón. Yo soy FR. Altaire Fernandez, su nuevo pastor asociado. Me gradué del Seminario de Palabra Divina administrado por la SVD en la ciudad de Tagaytay, Filipinas y fui ordenado sacerdote católico el 23 de mayo de 2000. He sido bendecido para ser asignado en maravillosas parroquias aquí en la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles, como Nuestra Señora de el Rosario en Paramount, San Carlos Borromeo en North Hollywood y San Juan Bautista de La Salle en Granada Hills. Antes de llegar a los Estados Unidos de América, era sacerdote diocesano en la Diócesis de San Pablo, Laguna, en Filipinas. Antes de convertirme en sacerdote, obtuve un título en Ingeniería Eléctrica y trabajé durante algunos años en el mundo secular. Pero Dios obra de maneras misteriosas. Creo que si permitimos que se haga su voluntad en nuestra vida, nos convertimos en lo que Él quiere que seamos, y nos coloca donde es mejor para nosotros servirle. Y han pasado 18 años sirviendo al Señor, a nuestro Dios y a su pueblo. Please leave your name, phone, child’s name, date of birth, grade and school. First communion preparation begins as early as 1st grade. This past week I was coming home from the Long Beach Aquarium and I decided to stop by Disneyland for a while to avoid traffic, because traffic is so bad that time of day, my Waze app took me entirely through side streets and crazy routes to get me to Disneyland. As I was driving through these streets I had noticed for several miles that every establishment had a rainbow flag hanging. My first thought was that its pride month and these businesses are showing their support, but I started to notice some of the names of these businesses and realized that this is day to day life in that part of town. The thing that really caught me by surprise was that every school and church, no matter what denomination, had a rainbow flag or something written in rainbow showing support, openness, and most of all that all are welcome. I was very moved by seeing this especially because I have friends and family members who are homosexual who do not feel welcomed in the church or in a lot of places. Christ didn’t give us stipulations about who to love and show compassion towards, he told us to love everyone no matter what! We should be living our life with the concept that all are welcome and all belong! How have you shown Christs love in your life lately? Upcoming: July 11-Youth Group July 25-Youth Group

Seeking Union with God O Seekers, remember, all distances are traversed by those who yearn to be near the Source of their being! Mysticism is all about Experience, the Experience of Union with God. It means to “Open one’s mind, and to enter into the Mystery which is God. The creation tradition understands Mysticism primarily as our entering the fullness of the mystery of our existence, the gift and blessing of creation itself. The mysterious universe we enter includes the universe of our minds and imaginations, memories and bodies as well as the mysteries of the cosmos itself. but given the wounds of the human condition, to enter these mysteries as fully as possible some letting go is needed, some returning to a space of emptiness and openness and primal ability to wonder. Thomas Merton believed that Mysticism is simply Union with God, and that the path to this Union is opened primarily by Grace and Prayer. We will use Contemplative Dialogue for our sharing, and always have a set time for Contemplation; helping us to become more mindful and prayerful.
