Attendance and Participation One of the Key Competencies promoted and valued in all NZ Schools is one
called, “Participating and Contributing.” It is therefore important that all
students are at school and involved in as much as possible of what goes on at
school, including camps, trips, and extra-curricular activities like sport, the
performing arts, kapahaka, etc. These events are also great for self-esteem,
and for building relationships between teacher and students, and among the
students.
These events, however, place an additional burden on the family finances. To
support families, Wellsford School offers a ‘weekly instalment option’ which
invites parents to make smaller, regular, payments to a school bank account,
e.g. $10/week. Our accounting system can track each family’s payments
separately. Parents can contact Lizz to have this account used to pay any
school expenses – camps, trips, uniform upgrades, visiting shows, school
donation, activity fees, etc. At any time a family can request a printout of
money paid in (and out) of the account. At the end of the year, parents can opt
to have the balance returned to them, or carry forward into the new year.
Contact Lizz, 09 423 8042, if you’d like to set this up.

25 ways to ask
your child, “How
was school
today?” without
actually asking
them that.
#18. Who in your
class do you think
you could be
nicer to?
#19. Where do
you play the most
at recess?
The big events of this term include…. Team 3 Camp – 16-18
th February
(Week 3)
Team 2 Trip to Goat Island – 19th
February
Team 4 Camp near the end of the
term
Please start setting aside funds for these more
expensive school events, or consider making
weekly payments to the school in advance.
The credit you build up can be used for the
many and varied little school expenses that
crop up, or for the big ones that come along
occasionally. See Lizz Tupp about this if you
are interested.
In your tidy up at home over the
holidays, did you find anything
belonging to the school? Please return
any school books, text-books, readers,
etc, you may have found.
Please stay off our new BMX
track during school, after school,
and in the evenings and weekends.
It is not finished yet, and there are
safety measures which need to be
taught to the students before it is
used.
Help Needed Desperately We are needing a volunteer to sell school uniforms,
one morning a week from 8:30am till 9:00am. Please
ring Kathy (09 423 8042) to volunteer.
A HUGE thank you to Steph McPherson for her
commitment to this task for several years, and to Saren
Heywood, her short term replacement.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION Hi, my name is Maretta Hodgson, I am a Public Health Nurse based at the school 2-3 days a week. If you have any health concerns about your
child; for example an itchy bite that is not healing and looks like it may have become infected and you would like me to treat it. Some other
health issues I can treat are Asthma, Eczema and toileting issues. Parental consent must be given for me to treat. If you think this free service
would be of help to you and your family at any time please let the school or I know.
I can be contacted on 021 227 8680. Feel free to txt me if you prefer.
A reminder to all parents/caregivers –
please name all school jackets and uniform items.
A large amount of unnamed jackets and polo shirts have accumulated at
the office. These will be washed and sold as second hand items through
the Uniform Shop.
The Uniform Shop
is open at the school office
every Wednesday morning at
8.30am.
Please note change of day.
PIE HELPERS – FRIDAY MORNINGS
We need three to four people to help with pies. We have a co-ordinator who will put you on a roster. If we
do not have more helpers within the next few weeks then we will, unfortunately, need to stop selling pies.
This is a good fundraiser for the SST and is a nice treat for the children. It would be a shame to see pies
finish. Contact Alisja Skelling 027 627 0457 if you can help.
A reminder to parents and caregivers to follow Wellsford School on Twitter

results with classroom behaviour as a result of
attending. Please consider looking into this as it is not often
it is presented so close to Wellsford. For brochures or
enrolment information, please phone or see Kathy or Sharon
