CLUB EVENTS Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat - Thursday May 25 2017

Our group arrived at the Crossroads Restaurant at 11:45am and we were shown to a private room to enjoy our meal. As in the past, the food selection was plentiful at the buffet. We made our food choices with a number of us eat-ing quickly so we would have time to browse in the gift shop. The musical production itself was well acted and the sing-ers very good. A few of us shared that we had seen this play when Donny Osmond performed the part of Joseph. I believe this young cast gave a performance as good as those in the Toronto production of the 1990’s.

Lunneburg - Thursday August 17, 2017 On Thursday morning 39 club members and guests started out on a new adventure. Heading west on the Queen Eliza-beth Way we were delayed by a traffic jam for about 20 minutes. Once passed, we were on our way to lunch at the White Oaks Resort. The service and meal were excellent and many mentioned that it was the best they’ve had!! On to the play – we found Lunenburg to be a very funny play about a USA wife who inherits a home in Lunenburg Nova Scotia from her deceased spouse. What she found is that he was leading two lives with a wife in Lunenburg who had died

with him. Her friend tries to start up a romance with the neighbor, but it really never gets off the ground. A tired but happy group headed for home.

Puddicombe Farms – Thursday June 22, 2017

On June 22nd we were up with the birds and on our way to Pud-dicombe Farms in Grimsby. They have been on this farm since 1787. While there, we tasted the red, white, and fruit wines that they make. Then we were treated to a fun trolley ride as we toured the property, Back on the bus we experienced a short mystery tour enroute to the Casablanca Winery Inn for a great buffet lunch, which includ-

ed a scrumptious dessert table. Unfortunately, our trip to Hamilton Harbor was cancelled due to mechanical issues. However, on the bus ride home, a raffle was held and several lucky people won a gift card or a bottle of Puddicombe Wine.

term partner the Oakville TELCO Board passed a motion at the June Board Meeting to

define Partner as follows:

A Partner will fall under one of the following two

definitions. (1) "partner is a person who is married to a club

member in good standing". (2) "partner is a person living in a common law

BOLIVIA 2017 MISSION PROJECT

For more than fifty years Doug and Aletha Kirkwood have volunteered in charitable and hu-

manitarian projects. This has been through numerous agencies and associations such as the

Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, Samaritan’s Purse, to name a few.

While most deployments have been in Canada, the Unit-

ed States, Central America and the Caribbean, they have

been as far away as Bangladesh where they spent three

months on a hospital project.

Through the Oakridge Bible Chapel they have been on

fifteen projects in Mexico, Belize and Nicaragua. This

past February it was Bolivia in South America. Volun-

teers pay their own airfare and accommodation expenses.

This year the team consisted of 17 members, young and

old.

Building houses, medical clinics, food warehouses, electri-

cal, sanitation, water purification, refurbishing buildings,

teaching in classrooms, providing school uniforms and

playground equipment are some of the activities per-

formed.

The Bolivia project was in the southern town of Camiri

providing assistance to a Christian school that was receiving less and less government fi-

nancial aid.

The most labour intense job was preparing and pouring a new concrete floor for a large out-

door courtyard. Painting murals on a large wall and in a number of classrooms was another

job. This was particularly difficult on the old adobe walls that seemed to disintegrate during

preparation.

While one team worked on new classroom desks and chairs painting them a brilliant orange

which complemented the new vibrant colours in the classrooms, another team was replacing

overloaded, fragile and potentially dangerous electrical wiring. Conduit and North American

regulation wiring was installed to replace questionable wiring that hung down everywhere.

Additional lighting was added to some classrooms that had only two fixtures for illumination.

Other odd jobs were repairing doors, locks, windows, etc. The team had a large First Aid kit

for emergencies, large and small, which was later donated to the school. It was heartening to

see the participation of our youthful team members, some volunteering for the first time on a

foreign adventure.

The Bolivians were most hospitable and friendly even though few spoke English and even less

of us spoke Spanish. The team experienced the local food and had the opportunity to visit an

indigenous community. After every project one comes home with a feeling of accomplishment

and a better appreciation of our own land – Canada!

TELCO Volunteers in Action

Lorna Maj (right) recently presented a "Bell Canada Helping Hands" cheque for $250.00 to Rachel of the Volunteer Services at the Oak-ville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. This amazing record of service is Lorna's six-teenth year of volunteer service at the hospital. Her selfless dedication has culminated in a total of $6,750.00 of financial assistance to the hospi-tal. (courtesy of TELCO Web Site)
