Same park but new day! The PGE Retirees’ Annual Picnic will be held at Tualatin Community Park on Wednesday, July 12. The park is located on the Tualatin River at 8515 SW Tualatin Road. We’ll look for you at the North Main #75 covered shelter. New retirees and those who haven’t joined us in the past are especially invited!

About Tualatin’s Community Park: The park is 29.11 acres, with three sports fields, tennis and basketball courts, a great playground, an award-winning skate park for skate boarding and in-line skating, a dog park and five picnic shelters. A boat ramp allows access to the Tualatin River. Check out their website at https://www.tualatinoregon.gov/recreation/tualatin-community-park.

What to bring• Potluck contribution: Bring a hot dish, salad, dessert or whatever you like to

have at a potluck! Chicken, coffee, tea, lemonade, cups, plates, napkins and eating utensils will be provided. Helpful Hint: Put your name on your dish and serving utensils and bring serving utensils if your dish needs them.

• Comfy chairs: There are picnic tables, but you are welcome to bring more comfortable things to sit on.

• Sun protection: Bring your hat, sunglasses and sunscreen!

How to helpIt takes many hands to set up and tear down, make coffee and lemonade, and whatever else is needed! If you can help, contact the co-chairs below.

How to get thereFrom I-5 take Exit 289 Nyberg St./Tualatin Sherwood. From the north, turn right onto Nyberg Rd/Tualatin Sherwood Rd (from the south, turn left). When the road splits, stay to your right, then turn right onto SW Martinazzi Avenue. At the traffic signal, turn left onto SW Boones Ferry Road, then right on Tualatin Road. Take the next right to the park entrance at the “Juanita Pohl Center” sign. Turn left and park anywhere along the street by the tennis courts.

The tour is FREE and is limited to 25 people, so pre-register now! If more people register, we may be able to schedule another tour.

Tours take about 30 to 45 minutes. It’s a walking tour, but the entire facility is accessible for wheelchairs and walkers.

One of the great things about this tour is that they will be making products during the tour. You will get to see them as they are making pies, moving pallets and doing what they do! But that comes with safety and cleanliness concerns. They love showing off who they are and what they do, but they take their food defense and safety very seriously. Therefore, it is mandatory that the following rules are respected and followed:

• No pictures are allowed inside the facility except for designated areas.

• Wear the complimentary hair and beard nets that will be given out (they’re quite fashionable) throughout the tour.

• Tuck all necklaces and earrings into clothing and/or under hair nets.

• Remove all exposed jewelry before entering the warehouse.

• Leave all bags and purses inside your vehicles.• Don’t wear open-toed or open-heeled shoes. They

are prohibited inside the production facility.

Note: If you use Google maps or your GPS, be sure you put in the Silverton address at 1651 Eska Way where the production plant and tour is located. Do not use the Salem address at 2994 NE 82nd Avenue. That is the location of the store and restaurant. However, after the tour you are welcome to go to the store and the restaurant!

The Spring Luncheon was a success!250 retirees and guests attended the Spring Luncheon on May 19. It was wonderful to see lots of familiar faces — and several new ones! Many thanks to Russ Bailey, Phyllis and Ed Miska and the rest of their hard working luncheon committee and to the Monarch Hotel for welcoming us all these years.

Mark your calendars now for the Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 7, also at the Monarch Hotel this year (not the Airport Holiday Inn).

World of Speed Museum toured by speed-loving retirees!In March, 17 PGE retirees had a fantastic time touring the World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville. The museum has Indy cars, stock cars, drag cars, home-built cars, older racing cars, motor cycles, a hydro plane and lots of manikins dressed in different eras of racing. It also tells the history of the changes in size, design, weight, safety, and imagination that has changed racing and racing vehicles from the late 1800s to the present.

Note from the editorAnother year half over! I had a great and warm time in Arizona and thought of you folks back home. I missed Oregon but didn’t miss the cold, wet weather. A big Thank You to Bonnie Oshiro for the use of her condo. I thought I was going to have all this free time, but every minute was packed full. Those folks know how to enjoy life. Between the time I left home on Dec. 28 and returned on April 29, I put 7,127 miles on my car! A couple of trips to visit my grandchildren and great-grandchildren, went to a baby shower for my second granddaughter got to see my newest great-granddaughter on my way home.

When I drove to Yuma to visit my friend JoAnn, I surprised myself by buying a one-bedroom, single wide mobile home! I got a wonderful deal so now I

can fulfill my late husband and my dream of becoming “Snowbirds.” I also have a hide-a-bed for special friends and relatives who would like to visit.

Also, I want to extend a personal invitation to all of the new retirees to come and join us. We are a busy group as you can see from our list of trips planned. Dad use to tell me, “Sis, stay busy and you’ll stay young.” It worked for him and his family living alone until their deaths in their middle and late 90s.
