• A macular hole is a disorder in which the center portion of the retina, which is called the macula, develops a hole.

• The macula is the portion of the retina that is responsible for your ability to see small fine print, to read, and to do detail work.

Retinal Vein Occlusion Retinal vein occlusion occurs when one of the tiny retinal

veins becomes blocked by a blood clot. Risk factors, apart from advanced age and genetic factors, are smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol levels

Causes and Risk Factors A retinal detachment is also more likely to occur in

people who:• Are extremely nearsighted• Have had a retinal detachment in the

other eye• Have a family history of retinal detachment• Have had cataract surgery• Have other eye diseases or disorders, such as

retinoschisis, uveitis, degenerative myopia, or lattice degeneration• Have had an eye injury
