Our materials are sourced from all over the world, allowing us to provide you with materials of the highest
quality.
The timbers we use for our products are extremely durable and able to resist the most inclement weather.
They are therefore ideally suited to garden furniture.
Due to the weathering process and timber being a natural material, joints will become slightly offset and
surface cracks will appear, particularly on the end grain and to a lesser extent on the surface within a few
weeks. As with other hardwoods such as our FSC® 100% Teak or FSC® 100% Roble, this is the normal behaviour
of timber, our furniture is designed with this in mind and its strength and durability will remain unaffected.
Our wooden products are a natural living timber, just like nature itself wood varies in shape and colour. Timber,
even from the same tree, will vary in many aspects. The variation in colour is just one distinguishing feature of
a product, as well as interlocking grain on our FSC® 100% Roble and knots on the softwood FSC® 100% Pine
range.
Stains such as spillages, bird droppings and mildew can be removed using Alexander Rose cleaner.
Alternatively sand down using medium grit sand paper.
Lifting grain or cracks can be glued using a waterproof adhesive suitable for timber. Clamping may be
necessary with excess glue being removed using a damp cloth. This area should be sanded once the glue is
dried.
Black spotting can occur through tannic acid in the wood or airbourne spores. It is a natural process and is
to be expected, it will not affect the quality or durability of the wood. To remove the black spotting use an
antifungal cleaner e.g. Dettol, using a thin bristle brush until black spots have gone.
Do not use soapy water to clean black spotting.

Timber Treatments Treatment Results
Product Description
Timber CleanerFor the restoration of discoloured timber. Apply to wet furniture, for the removal of
atmospheric dirt, recommended for use on all timbers.
Timber Protector
Designed to nourish and give a more uniformed appearance of the timber. Lasts up
to twice as long as Tmber Treatment. It is environmentally friendly and is water based,
recommended for use on Teak and Roble.
Timber Treatment
A multi purpose Timber Treatment, specially formulated to enhance, help protect and
preserve the natural beauty of all types of hardwood furniture, oil based, recommended
for use on Teak, Mahogany and Roble.
Timber Sealer
A protective coating designed to allow the wood to breathe, whilst reducing the amount
of weathering, dirt and moisture absorption. It can be used in conjunction with Timber
Treatment which seals in the treatment to make it last longer; can be used on Teak,
Roble, Mahogany and Pine.
Cornis OilFor use on Cornis products. This product can be used once the furniture has weathered
to restore the wood to the original state when first purchased.
Treatment is not required with most Alexander Rose hardwood furniture. Most timbers such as Teak, Roble
and Mahogany have a natural high oil content which acts as a natural preservative, all timber will mellow to a
silvery grey colour in about 3-6 months.
If your customer wants to keep the original colour of the wood when they first purchased it, then we
recommend they should treat it as soon as possible after purchase. If they decide to treat it after a few
months of being outside, cleaning will be required before treatment.
Treatment for Pine softwood is recommended. Untreated Pine will have an expected durability of up to 5
years. The treatment recommendation for Pine is an annual coat of either Ronseal or Cuprinol Softwood
Preservative, this will increase the durability up to 10 years.
In cold and dry periods, wood contracts which may lead to small cracks in the furniture. The reverse happens
in warm and humid periods where the wood expands and may result in slight unevenness.
Please see below our recommendations of treatment on our timber products:

New England MaintenanceAlexander Rose New England furniture is produced in a matt white finish, this is the result of two coats of
polyurethane paint to the Acacia timber. After time there may be hairline cracks in the finish, this is due to
the timber moving. Expansion and contraction of timber is normal and is caused by climatic variation, this
becomes noticable around the joints.
The New England benches are designed to be used outside, we recommend regular maintenance to retain its
original condition, this can be done by sanding the effected area down to the natural timber, a yellow colour,
then re-apply evenly a white matt polyurethane paint to the area. Polyurethane paint can be purchased from
any DIY or Hardware store, if you are unsure about what paint to use please contact Alexander Rose.

Material Information
Material Description
Roble
Roble comes from Chiquitania dry forest in South East Bolivia, as opposed to a wet forest. The dry forests are ideal for
harvesting strong and long lasting wood; therefore it is a very strong hardwood which is light yellow in colour. It has a
smooth lustre and texture with a closely interlocked grain, Roble has excellent machining and turning qualities, finishes
and polishes well. It has a durability of up to 25 years. Its strength is similar to Teak and Oak. Roble timber is slow grown,
and is harvested after 80 - 100 years. If left untreated Roble will mellow down to a silver grey appearance. Our Roble is
FSC® 100% and is sourced from Bolivia. Our water-based protector and/or Timber Treatment is recommended to treat
Roble furniture.
Teak
A strong hardwood that varies from golden brown to dark brown. Variation across slats is normal. It has a durability of
up to 25 years. If left untreated, Teak will turn silvery/grey over a period of 3-6 months. It can be treated with Timber
Treatment, Timber Sealer or Protector. Our FSC® 100% Teak furntiure is made using only premium grade timber from
Brazil.
Mahogany
A strong hardwood with an expected durability of up to 10 years. The heartwood is pinkish when freshly cut and darkens
to the typical Mahogany reddish brown. Our FSC® MIX Mahogany timber comes from the Congo in Central Africa. It will
turn to a silvery grey colour over a period of 3-6 months. It can be treated with Timber Treatment and Timber Sealer, the
latter of which is optional. We do not recommend use of Protector on Mahogany as the colours are not compatible.
Cornis
Dense close grained strong hardwood with a durability of up to 10 years. It is reddish brown and each piece of furniture
has an oiled finish giving it a smooth lustre. Our FSC® MIX Cornis timber comes from eucalyptus trees in South America.
If left untreated it will go darker first then mellow to silver/grey over a period of 5-6 months. Our Cornis has been pre-
oiled at the factory to give the furniture a more uniform colour. We recommend the use of Cornis oil.
New England
Made from Acacia timber, the timber is FSC® 100% sourced from Vietnam. It has a durability of up to 10 years. The white
finish is the result of two coats of polyurethane paint which has a matt finish. It can be cleaned using warm soapy water
and a sponge. Avoid using sharp edged objects to clean the bench as this will scratch and remove the paint. Should
consumers wish to renovate their white bench back to its original condition they can apply a polyurethane paint with a
matt white finish.
Material Description
Pine
A softwood timber that varies from pale yellow to green. It has a durability of up to 10 years if treated annually. We
recommend treating it with a preserver such as Cuprinol or Ronseal. Do not use Timber Treatment or Protector, only
Timber Sealer. Our FSC® 100% Pine models have been dipped treated to Category 3.
Rose Fibres
Used in our San Marino, Ocean, Hyacinth, Havana, Hi-Rise, Cabana, HEX Lounge, Madison Lounge. Synthetic Rose Fibre
is a superior quality high density polyethylene (HDPE). The characteristics of this fibre are marked by tensile strength,
durability as well as UV and weather resistance. Our extrusion process creates a synthetic fibre which is completely
coloured throughout, smudge proof, resistant to extreme temperatures, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, 100%
recyclable, washable and fungus free. It has a 10 year material warranty. The weave cleans easily with warm soapy water.
Monte Carlo
Synthetic rattan is a highly flexible, tensile-strength polyethylene fibre used for weaving furniture. The fibres are made of
high density polyethylene – HDPE, a 100% recyclable non-toxic material. It is perfect for outdoor or indoor use and has
unique properties that render it insensitive to UV rays and extreme weather conditions. The fibres are UV and weather
tested and is guaranteed for up to 3 years, free from defects such as cracking, peeling or breaking. The weave cleans
easily with warm soapy water. The glass used on the woven tables are tempered safety glass and will not deteriorate.
Mild Steel
Portofino is produced using a fine powder coated tubular steel and wire mesh. It requires minimal maintenance although
we recommend cleaning annually. Use a damp cloth and mild detergent – do not use bleach or abrasive cleaners.
Portofino has a durability of up to 5 years.
Portofino Lite
Aluminium
Woven frames and the Portofino Lite is produced using powder coated aluminium extruded tubes to achieve a high
strength to weight ratio, with the result being a very strong and lightweight frame. The aluminium is resistant to corrosion
which makes it ideal for outdoor use.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel contains chromium to form a passive film of chromium oxide which prevents surface corrosion. We
use grade 304 tubular sections which are chemically pickled and naturally passivated after fabrication to improve its
resistance to tarnishing. All grades of stainless steel will stain and discolour over time, due to surface deposits, and is
never completely maintenance free. Therefore, some routine cleaning is required to keep all stainless steel products
in good condition so that the aesthetic appearance is not compromised. In order to maintain the original high quality
finish, polishing and light cleaning is advisable; we recommend our 2 in 1 Stainless Steel Cleaner & Protective Polisher.
Rose Sling
Manufactured in Indonesia. Vietnam and USA, a tough synthetic fabric made of PVC coated polyester. It has specially
formulated yarns developed to withstand UV fading, mildew and the most severe weather conditions. The fabric is fully
water resistant and can be cleaned using soapy water.
Stone Effect TopsUsed in our Portofino and Portofino Lite ranges. The stone tops are made from compact fibreglass cement, finished with
a highly resilient granite effect coating. It is UV and weather resistant, and requires minimal maintenance.
Slate Effect Tops Used in our Avant Classic and Avant ranges. It is constructed in Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC)
HPL Used in our Avant range. HPL (High Pressure Laminate) is produced by combining thermosetting resin with kraft paper
under high temperatures. The result is an extremely tough and weather resistant material with a durable finish.
GlassIs a material produced from a combination of quartz sand – silica, soda and lime. As well as being 100% recyclable it will
not deteriorate. The glass we use is tempered safety glass complying to BS EN 12150.

BasesWe suggest using our GB11 base for smaller parasols such as the 2.5m and 2.7m or if using it through a
table. Our GB20 and GB30 are suggested for use with our larger 3.0m and 2.0 x 3.0m Parasols.
We recommend our parasols are not left up in windy conditions.
The UHGB40 base is designed to be used with the UHP range of cantilever parasols. It has convenient small
wheels, allowing the base to be moved along a flat surface easily.
The UHGB90 base has been designed to be used with the UH35 cantilever parasol, the UHGBY is for use
with the UHY and UHP. It has locking wheels to secure the parasol and prevent any movement.

GazebosUG17 (3.0m x 3.0m), UG18 (4.0m x 3.0m)
Our two Gazebos use 250gsm polyester fabric for the roof and 180gsm polyester fabric for the curtains, both
pieces of fabric are Ecru coloured. The frame is constructed in alumium and is powder coated to prevent
corrosion, which makes it perfect for outdoor use.

EngravingsAlexander Rose offers an engraving service with three options, brass plaque, stainless steel plaque and
direct engravings.
Our brass plaque offers a more traditional look for your inscription, stainless steel plaques provide a more
contemporary look with a silver shine, they will not rust.
If you are looking for something unique we offer a direct engraving service carved directly into the timber by
a computer aided engraving machine. A direct engraving will mellow down along with the bench to a silver
grey finish if left untreated, you will find treatment recommendations on page 6.
Furniture AnchorsWe have designed two types of anchors for different surfaces, the most common being lawns. Using an
Alexander Rose soft ground anchor kit avoids the need for concrete, installation is quick and easy without
any mess.
Our soft ground anchors come with solid brass plates that screw onto the outside legs, these have sleeves
to allow the anchors to pass through and penetrate the surface. When an anchor approaches its maximum
depth (500mm) a curved fluke is released to grip the bench further into the surface, adding more security.
Our hardground anchors
are designed to be used
with concrete, they have a
maximum depth of 110mm
and requires a 20mm
masonary drill bit.

FAQs
Wood FAQs
My furniture is going/ has gone black. What can I do? What has caused this?
Black spotting can occur through tannic acid in the wood or airbourne spores. It is a natural process and is
to be expected, it will not affect the quality or durability of the wood. To remove the black spotting use an
antifungal cleaner e.g. Dettol, using a thin bristle brush until black spots have gone.
Do not use soapy water to clean black spotting.
My furniture has cracks on the ends/ is cracking?
All hardwoods lose their minerals/salts and as they evaporate cracks will appear on the end grain (tops of
chairs/end of tables/end of arms). This is normal. Sometimes the crack will open quite wide, especially in hot
weather. They will close when it rains or is cooler. This cracking will not affect the stability of the furniture and
in most cases occurs within the first few months and gets no worse. Treatment can help reduce cracking as
the Teak Oil replaces some of the natural oil that is lost through evaporation.
My table has a warped slat on the top?
This can usually be repaired at our workshop. We would require proof of purchase and photographs from
your customer. Depending on the age of the furniture, there may be an uplift and return fee and in some
cases a repair charge. Please contact our sales office who will be happy to assist you.
(Note: Uneven surfaces (floor/patio) cause warping)
What is FSC®, does my Teak, Roble, Cornis, Pine or Mahogany come from sustainable sources?
FSC® means Forestry Stewardship Council which is a body that oversees the wood resources of countries
all across the world. It is an organisation and it issues certificates to those countries whose wood is from a
sustainable source. We are proud that all our timbers are all now FSC® certified.
My table appears to have an uneven end or slats appear to have moved out?
All our products have joints which have built in tolerances for “movement” as wood is a natural product
that expands and contracts with change of temperature and humidity. This will not affect the strength or
durability of the product.
What paint do you use for the New England Range?
Wickes Exterior Satin for wood - Brilliant white.

Weave FAQs
Can I use a Jet wash to clean my Woven Furniture?
A Jet spray on a low wide spray setting is acceptable to use on woven chairs at a distance of approx one
metre. The tables should be cleaned carefully with a sponge and luke warm water.
What is the frame under the weave made from?
The structure of all woven furniture is made from fully welded, powder-coated aluminium frames. The
aluminium tubes we use have a thickness of 1.5mm to provide maximum strength and lightweight frame.
Avant Classic and Avant FAQs
How do I Clean the Stainless Steel on my Avant?
Stainless Steel does require maintenance to keep it looking as new, treatment can be applied yearly or every
few months to keep in top condition. Stainless steel is resistant to corrosion, but in some cases the surface
may develop small brown spots – these spots are commonly caused by effects of salt water and airborne
chemicals, this process is likely to be accelerated in coastal areas. The spots in no way affect the strength
and integrity of your furniture, they are simply superficial discolorations that requires cleaning with our
stainless cleaner and polish.
My Avant Table does not have a parasol hole, how do I protect myself from the sun?
Some of our tables are purposely designed without a parasol. If you do require a parasol we have 3 different
types of cantilever parasol which are free standing which means you can position your furniture underneath,
rather than around the central pole as with conventional designs. The crank mechanism makes it effortless
to use.
Portofino FAQs
What should I use to clean my Portofino?
You should use a damp cloth and a mild detergent, do not use bleach or an abrasive cleaner.
Will my Portofino Rust?
The range has been made using a grey powder coated mild steel. The frames begin with a cleaning and
phosphate treatment, this provides effective rust protection. Next is a cathodic dip coating where a layer of
primer is evenly applied via an electrochemical process, this is the perfect bonding agent for the powder
coating treatment. The combined coating thickness is 0.25mm in comparison to an industry standard
powder coating, which has a thickness of only 0.08mm - 0.12mm. Powder coating the frame results in a
smooth finish and provides an effective layer of protective skin, once dry they receive another coating.

How do I get rid of scratches and scuffs from the Portofino frames?
Use an abrasive hand pad for metal e.g. Scotch Sprite and gently rub over the damaged area until repaired.
This will not work on deep scratches.
Accessories FAQs
Can I leave my cushions out all night, are they waterproof?
Alexander Rose cushions are made using water resistant fabrics so our cushions may be left out during a
shower or overnight without worry. Our cushions are not totally waterproof so long term exposure to water
is not recommended and anything which is wet for a prolonged period of time will eventually go mouldy
which is virtually impossible to remove. In this case we recommend using our cushion bags which are
available in 3 sizes.
Why does my furniture appear wet when I have applied its weather cover?
Our covers are not 100% waterproof. The covers are designed to be breathable, to allow air to circulate
underneath your furniture. If the covers were not breathable, the condensation would build up below the
cover creating mildew covering the furniture.
We would suggest placing an empty pot, or leaving the bottom pole in the table to create a tent effect to
allow the rain water to run off and prevent water sitting in dips in the cover.
Can the canopy on my Parasol be cleaned?
To clean your parasol we advise that the fabric is kept attached to the frame, use a soft brush or broom and
warm soapy water. For more stubborn stains the canopy can be removed and washed at 30c. Once washed,
it is important to put the canopy back on the frame to dry.
The colour of my canopy on my swing seat doesn’t match my parasol/cushions.
The Swing Seat canopies (560 & 560PINE) for our wooden swing seats are made from 290gsm acrylic fabric.
Our cushion fabrics are made from either Polyester, Olefin or Acrylic.
Our Parasols are either made from 270gsm Spun Poly or Olefin.
Whilst we make every attempt to make sure the colours match, because of the different fabric used, there
can sometimes be a slight variation of colour.
