AMAZONAmazon, the Fortune 500 online retail company, is building a new million square foot warehouse center in the Port of Baltimore, opening in the fourth quarter of 2014. With it comes 1,000 full-time jobs that pay up to 30 percent more than traditional retail jobs, according to the employer. Baltimore is one of eight new locations where the company sees a large consumer base that allows Amazon the opportunity to offer one-day shipping.
This will also be a major boon to the area. The Amazon site is directly connected to Merritt Park, just two miles west via Holabird Avenue. The project is being built by Duke Realty and has funding from the State of Maryland.
