terms of market and personal money transactions. The prime focus of retail banking

is individual customers where I enable products specific to his individual needs. When

I talk about Architecture of a Bank following are common known terms

• Front Office

• Middle Office

• Back Office

From an Enterprise perspective Front is where customer knock’s bank’s door. Middle

is where customer’s needs are planned and how he will be served. Back office is

support to his day to day activities during his stay with the bank. In today’s scenario

there is another need to serve customer in digital world so I plan about

• Serving customers via multiple channels

• Improving process lifecycle and customer experiences via those channels

• Single customer view via various channels

• Understanding customer behavior via social media and improve banking

capabilities

• Tools to analyze savings and investments online etc.

Now how enterprise architecture can help in facilitating retail banking needs is more

about comprehensive analysis of structures of processes and data of retail banking

and align it to latest customer demands

Retail banking comparison with a Service Apartment Retail banking comparison with a Service Apartment Retail banking comparison with a Service Apartment Retail banking comparison with a Service Apartment

A guest in a service apartment is similar to a customer for a retail bank. A guest in a

service apartment can execute following processes

• Check-in

• Plans for check-out

• His food arrangements

• Amenities and arrangement for his room

• His recreational needs etc.

Enterprise Architecture of a service apartment is giving a holistic view to the customer

so that he knows each corner and facility of the service apartment and accordingly

utilizes that as per his needs. Enterprise Architecture is more on top to bottom, left to

right view with end to end processes and amenities required, say each floor connects

the units of the respective floor, bedrooms are placed at the corner sides for attaining

the cross ventilation, stairs in the front to get outside view, gym and gaming halls with

connectivity to dining area. Now if I compare recent demands of customer and

compare it with digital transformation in business world it is more on transforming

anything into anything say a multi-storey car parking with automated control from

basement. Wi-fi access with a video-conferencing facility to know what any part of

apartment say a customized training from a gym instructor via video-conferencing. So

an Enterprise Architecture is accommodating change in demands to rationalization

and optimization of structure of processes and structure of data.

EA for a retail bank is to understand processes entities, data entities and Service

entities at core, enabling and supporting level and then do a comprehensive ER

analysis as per retail banking needs say sales, customer volumetric at core level,

modernization of banking products at enabling level and compliance with master

data management at supporting level. I am providing a multi-storey car parking

means customer can deposit his money via ATM’s, Branches as well as by digital

cheques in terms of parking his money. When I talk about video-conferencing it is

access to various products and services via branches, online, via mobile channels

etc. Enterprise Architecture is providing a holistic view for understanding entities

of a bank providing retail banking services, how an entity collaborates with other

banking entity for a customized service to a consumer, are my processes have

been transformed and now are customer centric and last but not the least

information entities linked to solutions at core, enabling and supporting level of

bank enabling an E2E retail banking transaction. So Enterprise Architecture aligns

customer investment in bank for his retail banking transactions to bank’s

investment in rationalization and optimization of structure of process and

structure of information as per demands of customer with certain goals like single

customer view, digital and direct banking, personal financial management,

configuring banking services on customer’s most personal device and last but not

the least synchronization between banking channels for retail banking needs.
