‘We are coming to the end of this age, and the beginning of the One to come!
This Prayer Manual is specifically put together to help you pray scripture over
your nation, regardless of which nation that might be. It was written to help
South Africans pray for their nation in difficult and uncertain times, but is not
limited to South Africa only.
This manual is meant to serve as a point of departure to discover God's heart
for nations. Please add to it as the Holy Spirit guides you when you pray for
your nation.
Our heart's desire is to always first and foremost strive for intimacy with God
and to live obedient lives as Citizens of Zion. In this endeavour however, we
cannot sit passively as the Kingdom of Darkness tries to destroy the Kingdom
of Light and its citizens. We believe that the Bride of Christ should take up
her authority in Christ Jesus and stand against the work of the enemy. We are
victorious in Christ Jesus and through Christ who gives us strength. May we
pray from a place of authority when we pray for our respective nations.
Lets pray from the Spirit and not from our flesh, we are seated with Him in
heavenly places! Understand your authority and walk in it!
We hope that this manual will bless you and enrich your prayers for your
country.
Acts 17:26 (ESV)
And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having
determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,
Psalm 33:12 (ESV)
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!

Positioning yourself for war
It is important to state beforehand that our fight is not against any earthly person or being,
but against Satan and all his children in whatever form, and their plans for our nation
(Ephesians 6:12, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5). We therefore structure our prayers to take on the
enemy's forces at work in our nation. Dealing with sin and evil in what any form or kind! We
are Citizens of Zion; Citizens of the Kingdom of Light. In this authority we take on the forces
from the Kingdom of Darkness. 1John 3:8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the
devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God
appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. And now we received a commission to
wage war on the earth for the souls of man! That’s why we pray/war! It’s for souls!
Romans 10:13-15 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How
then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in
him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone
preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How
beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Luke 10:2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few.
Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.

Some thoughts
We are at war – whether we want to acknowledge it or not. Ephesians 6:11-17
We have enemies that has one goal in mind, and that is to destroy all created
in the Image of God also the body – The Church- 1Peter 5:8-9 Be sober-
minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring
lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that
the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood
throughout the world.
Sin (not obeying God) kills us. Romans 6:23, Romans 7:5
Our protection is to put on Christ and take refuge in Him. Psalm 5:11, 2
Samuel 22:3-4, Ephesians 6:13
We do not play or joke around with the enemy. We function with and in the
Lord. Jude 1:9
We learn how to warfare through studying the Word of God! 2 Corinthians
10:4-5
The Holy Spirit will guide us in all truth. John 16:13
God has given us authority to overcome all the power of the enemy. Luke
10:19
If we do not pray, we cannot expect change in our country!
We must always function in His Love, the most powerful weapon we own!
2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves
and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
5
We have authority
God gave man authority to rule and reign on the earth (Genesis 1:26-28 26 Then God
said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the
livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the
earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created
him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to
them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion
over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living
thing that moves on the earth.”).
The devil has no power over you, your family, your church, your city, your province,
your country, the world, plus everyone and everything in it, unless it is given to him.
Remember that, as the ruling authority on this earth, by doing nothing you also allow
him do his work through all his agents; whether spirit or human. Mankind are the
ones issuing the authority on the earth – either to God or the Devil. You choose! God
has given us that authority! Which tree will you eat from? God wants us to defeat the
devil through His Spirit in us!
Do you understand that all authority has been given to us who have been filled with
His powerful Holy Spirit! Those of us who are part of the Body of Christ (who were
made alive again by the breath of life, see Genesis 2:7, 16-17, John 20:22) has been
given the highest authority by and through Jesus Christ: Luke 10:19 Behold, I have
given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of
the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. (This is a promise.)
We are seated in Christ in Heavenly places and the Name of Jesus Christ is above
every name that is named (Ephesians 2:6, Philippians 2:9).
Although we have been given the authority on the earth, it's important to let God be
God in the world, through us! 2 Corinthians 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for
Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be
reconciled to God.
Whenever we are confronted with Satan or his evil colleagues it is best to remember
this simple rule: It is not you, but God in you, which Satan is scared of. Let's listen to
what James tells us: James 4:7-8 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil,
and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse
your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
This passage demonstrates how to resist the devil. Firstly, we submit ourselves to
God. In doing so you will automatically live in His will and His ways and the Devil will
not be able to touch you. If he touches you then he has to face consequences from
6
God! You see, all our hope is in Him. Therefore, draw close to God, remain in His
presence and obey His Word!
Luke 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and
scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt
you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but
rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Matthew 10:1 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority
over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every
affliction.
Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You
received without paying; give without pay.
Matthew 28:18-19A -Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven
and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go…..
……As the father has sent me so I am sending you….Joh20:21
In His protection
Now that we have established that we are indeed in a war and that we have authority
over the evil powers in this war, it is extremely important to remain in Christ and in
His protection, and be trained for warfare. God promises in His Word that He will
never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6) and Jesus again says that He is
with us to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20). We do not fight this war from our
own strength but from a place of faith in submission to God (Mark 11: 22-23, James
4:7).
Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil"
I Peter 5:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like
a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith,
knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
Be mindful of what you say
Since we are given authority and dominion on the earth, our words carries a lot of
weight (James 3:5) and we should guard over what we say (Psalm 141:3).
7
Although the enemy may not know what we are thinking, he can hear what we say
and observe what we read, write and do. Our negative words and actions give the
devil a legal standing in the court of heaven to use our own words and actions
against us. Consequently we should choose our words carefully. We should live as
children of light and not give any place to the devil (Ephesians 5:8, Ephesians 4:27).
From Scripture we see that Satan has access to God in heaven. We see a glimpse of
their interaction in following excerpt from the first chapter of the book of Job:
Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves
before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the Lord said to Satan,
“From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to
and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
The enemy tempts us, entices us, lures us, waiting and watching for us to go for the
bait. When we do, he goes before God and accuses us day and night (Revelation
12:10) in an attempt to gain permission to inflict misery upon us and sift us (Luke
22:31-32).
Zechariah 3:1-2 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the
angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the
LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, O Satan! The LORD who has chosen
Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?”
Can you see from this scripture how relentless Satan and his demons are in their zeal
to attack us and bring us down? They consider everything we say and do, hoping to
find evidence against us.
This is definitely a supernatural problem. And supernatural problems require
supernatural solutions. We cannot combat Satan and his demons on our own. We
need God’s supernatural help. It’s up to us to choose to partner with God. We have
to equip ourselves with the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God and follow His
guidance. He will teach us His ways (Isaiah 2:3, Micah 4:2, Isaiah 54:13). His ways are
higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9).
These verses demonstrate the power of our words:
James 3:7-12 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be
tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue.
It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and
with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth
come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a
spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree,
8
my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield
fresh water.
Psalm 34:12-15 What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he
may see good? Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Turn
away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are
toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry.
Declarations
Throughout scripture we find situations in which God commanded the people to
prophecy, declare or even command certain things (see for example what God told
Moses or the prophets). Let us look at such an example from Ezekiel.
Ezekiel 37:3-14 And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I
answered, “O Lord God, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones,
and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to
these bones: Behold, I will cause breath[b] to enter you, and you shall live. And I will
lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin,
and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and
behold, a rattling,[c] and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked,
and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin
had covered them. But there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy
to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God:
Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may
live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and
they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold,
they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut
off.’ Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will
open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you
into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your
graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within
you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know
that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”
From this well-known passage we see how God commanded Ezekiel to prophecy
over the dry bones and speak to them. Often times we pray and plead for things but
instead we should be prophesying and declaring God's word over that situation.
9
This is a powerful tool to keep in mind when praying for your country. We do not
declare or prophesy our own words but only that which God Himself is saying over
the country. When we are unsure of what God is saying over a country, the best is to
keep to scripture and declare that over the nation.
The Power of prayer
Prayer is often times neglected by Christians but it is such a powerful weapon. The
Bible teaches us that whenever we pray anything according to the will of God He
hears us and answers our prayers (1 John 5:14-15). We should be faithful in praying
(Romans 12:12, Colossians 4:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:17) and never give up (Luke 18:1).
Be mindful to pray with pure motives (James 4:3); our God is the one who searches
hearts (Jeremiah 17:10, Romans 8:27) and we know that the prayer of an upright
person accomplishes much (James 5:16).
Thank you Lord that I know when I pray according to Your will, you hear my
prayer and that my prayer is a powerful weapon.
Have confidence in your prayer, pray with faith in Him!
Some scriptures to build you up in prayer.
1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask
anything according to his will he hears us.
1 Chronicles 16:11 Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!
2 Chronicles 6:21 And listen to the pleas of your servant and of your people Israel,
when they pray toward this place. And listen from heaven your dwelling place, and
when you hear, forgive.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and
pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven
and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Ephesians 6:18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To
that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
Jeremiah 29:12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will
hear you.
10
Job 22:27 You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you, and you will pay
your vows.
James 5:13-18 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful?
Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the
church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the
Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise
him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your
sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer
of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a
nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years
and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave
rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

our land!

authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the
spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
3 Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in
the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
16
Lord we prophecy against the veil of blindness on the minds of all our
people in Jesus Name!
2 Corinthians 4:4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the
unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ,
who is the image of God.
Lord we pray for Spirit filled leaders in your body in our country! (also
see Hosea 4:1-11)
Mat 23:16 “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is
nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’
Let all the idolaters in our nation be confounded, and let all the gods
worship the Lord.

name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Prayers for Mercy and Restoration

Isaiah 52:10 The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and
all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
The kingdom is the Lord’s, and He is the governor of my nation.
Psalm 22:28 For kingship belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations.
Let His government and peace (shalom) continually increase in my
nation.
Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on
the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice
and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD
of hosts will do this.
I will confess You, Lord, among my people and sing unto Your name.
Psalm 22:22 I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation
I will praise you:
I pray for the healing waters to flow into my nation.
Ezekiel 47:9 And wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live,
and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea
may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes.
Prayers for righteousness
We declare that righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit will
increase in my nation.
Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of
righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
I pray for righteousness to come to my nation, and that my nation would
be exalted.
Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.
Let His justice and judgement increase in my nation.

Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on
the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice
and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD
of hosts will do this.
Lord bring righteousness and justice to our nation.
Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul
delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations.
Lord I pray that my country will pursue righteousness and kindness.
Proverbs 21:21 Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life,
righteousness, and honour.
Prayers for Unity
Lord we declare that unity will be established in the body of Christ, in our
government and amongst all peoples of our nation (read through these
Prayerfully)
1 Peter 3:8-11 Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a
tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but
on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. For
“Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him
seek peace and pursue it.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for
their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when
he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep
warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against
one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Psalm 133:1-3 A Song of Ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on
the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like
the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has
commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Prayers for love
Lord I pray that you will restore love in our hearts. We pray that our
country will know you because you are love!
1 John 3:16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to
lay down our lives for the brothers.
1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves
has been born of God and knows God.
John 15:12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved
you.
Worship as a weapon
Get some music going and praise the Lord, be conscious of releasing Gods living water into
the nation while worshipping Him!
Lord I pray that our worship will be a powerful weapon.
Hebrews 13:15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to
God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
1 Chronicles 16:23-31 Sing to the LORD, all the earth! Tell of his salvation from day
to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous works among all the
peoples! For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared
above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD
made the heavens. Splendour and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in
his place. Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory
and strength! Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and
come before him! Worship the LORD in the splendour of holiness; tremble before
him, all the earth; yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Let the
heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, “The
LORD reigns!”

Declarations
Each Bible verse is followed by an explanation and a declaration that can be made over your
nation.
Love:
1 Corinthians 13:1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
If we do not love this nation and the people in South Africa, everything will be from
the flesh and not from God’s heart. We will and can achieve nothing!
Lord we ask first and foremost that You will give us a love for this nation. Lord
You birth nations and on that basis we ask that Your love for this nation of
South Africa will grow in us. Lord give us a love for our neighbours, our fellow
citizens our friends and family. Let us love them the way You love them.
Intimacy:
James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you
sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Being in Gods presence and seeking His face is our starting point, we need to draw
close to Him having a hunger for the things of God. Without knowing Him it’s a
suicide mission!
Lord we want to be close to You. We want to know You and know Your heart
for South Africa. Lord once again draw near to us as we draw near to You. Lord
we pray for the restoration of intimacy between us and You, not just
individually but as a nation also. May South Africa once again draw near to You
and seek You and Your righteousness first.
Hope:
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for
welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
South Africans have lost their hope. The situation often seems hopeless, almost
paralysing us. But with God there is always hope! It isn’t over until God says so!!
Lord we ask for restoration of hope to the South African people. Lord give us
21
Your vision for this nation. Lord our hope is in You. You alone can deliver us
from the plans of the enemy, Lord we declare your plans over South Africa. We
declare that Your hand will once again move powerfully over this nation and we
declare that our hope will hope be firmly based in who You are! Not in our
minute idea of You, but in fullness of Who You are – GOD of the universe! Our
hope is in You, no one else.
