PROJECT WORK (PG INTERNSHIP FOR ONE YEAR) Title: Line Balancing on Drain Valve Assembly line and Setup time Reduction for Molding in Filtrum Tools and Components Pvt.Ltd

Problem Statement: Production was to be increased with proper labor management and at time demand was fluctuating and hence line had to be balanced with maximum efficiency. Due to addition of new fixtures and work station the existing layout had to be changed so as to reduce man and material flow with proper storage of raw material and finished goods. Non value added activities had to be reduced for capacity release.

Work Done: By using “SREEDIM” Approach and cycle time calculations bottleneck operation was determined and then by Debottlenecking and by Process modulations the production was increased on drain valve assembly line. Proposed layout options were worked on and the option which would fulfill the essential characteristics for smooth and efficient flow were implemented. For the capacity release the utilization on each machine was calculated with the downtime (planned/unplanned) for both the machine and mold which were rectified by spare parts inventory and continuous monitoring by Daily Management Checklists (DMC). Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) was implemented to reduce the mold changeover time.

Achievements: 1.A Research paper on “Multifarious Approach to Improve Productivity of Drain Valve Assembly line” is presented at International Conference on Science and Technology (ICST-2K14) and published in International Journal of Current Engineering & Technology (ISSN:2277-4106) in Vol.5 No.1 (Jan/Feb2015) at page no.189-194.2. A Research paper on “Line Balancing on Audi B8 Cable Assembly Line using MUDA: A Case Study” is presented at International Conference on Science and Technology (ICST-2K14) and published in International Journal of Advance Industrial Engineering E-ISSN 2320 –5539 in Vol.3 No.1 (March 2015) at page no.1-53. A Research paper on “Ergonomic Analysis to study the intensity of MSD’s among the practicing Indian Dentists” is presented at the 6th International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics (AHFE 2015) and the Affiliated Conferences, AHFE 2015, AHFE 2015 Procedia Manufacturing Vol. 3 (2015) at Page no. 5419-5426
