I am excited to gain experience in the architecture and design field through hands-on participation in the design process, utilizing and improving my skills in design, drawing, craft, and construction. Education University of Minnesota - Twin Cities: College of Design. 2008 - 2012 - Major: Bachelors of Science in Architecture with Honors: summa cum laude - Minor: Landscape Design and Planning - GPA: 3.77 Dean’s List all semesters enrolled UMN CDes Study Abroad: Oaxaca, Mexico. Spring 2011 - I studied with MN and Mexican architects, focusing on local colonial architecture, courtyards, and public spaces. Work Experience Choice Wood Company: April 2015 - Present - Architectural Designer for a residential design/build firm. I assisted on all aspects of high-end projects from the initial client meeting through construction. I contributed to the design, assembled construction documents and permit drawings, as well as participated in construction oversight and administration. I have spent time in the field doing demolition work and framing. Silvercocoon Design: Dec 2012 - Dec 2014 - Contract drafter/designer for a small residential design office. I assisted in the production of construction documents, rendering, and model building. Additionally, I completed several small design/build projects that focused on artistic architectural installations. Salmela Architect: June - Nov 2014 - Contract field measuring. I documented site conditions and produced CAD drawings of existing structures for upcoming renovation projects. Feyereisen Studios, Inc: July - Dec 2012 - Model builder and laser cutting technician for an architectural model building studio. I participated in all aspects of constructing architectural models for Twin Cities architecture firms. Tasks included producing model scale drawings, laser cutting, woodworking, painting, sanding, and finishing. SALA Architects: May - July 2012 - Contract intern. I assisted with general office tasks and architectural support, such as oraganizing the material library, fielding calls, model building, and digital rendering. Sherman Construction: May - Sept 2009, 2010 - Laborer for custom home builder. During two summers home from college, I worked construction on a high-end residence; helping with foundation work, framing, painting, interior finishing, and landscaping. Awards + Recognition AIA Saint Paul Prize - 2013 Honorable Mention - The objective in the 2013 competition was to re-imagine the area around the Liftbridge in downtown Stillwater, MN as a bicycle and pedestrian promenade. Cabin Life Design Competition - 5th Place, Oct 2012 - Published in Cabin Life Magazine for my design of a cabin on Lake Vermillion, MN. Student Groups + Volunteer AIAS Freedom by Design: Sept 2011- May 2012 - Outreach coordinator for AIAS Freedom by Design UMN chapter, a community outreach student group that works to improve the living conditions of local residents through modest design/build solutions. One of our projects was renovating Running Wolf Community Center in S. Minneapolis. Strengths + Skills + Interests - I have spent considerable time with architectural and design software: Adobe and Microsoft products, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Revit, 3dsMax, Vray, etc. I have experience in the woodshop and on the construction site. I have a pretty serious photography habit. When I’m not at my desk or in the shop, you can find me cycling, skiing, camping, or enjoying other outdoor activities.
