■ A Parish Council is the smallest and most localised tier of local government and is a properly constituted local authority.

■ The powers, duties and the manner in which a Parish Council operates are laid out in local government statute and regulations; Parish Councils operate at a level below district and borough councils.

■ Parish Councillors are elected every four years and are not paid to perform their duties. Parish Councillors have no powers to act alone, the decisions of a council are either made by the corporate body at a legally constituted meeting or delegated to an officer.

■ Parish Council’s can help on a number of local issues, like planning applications or running local sports grounds and community halls.

■ Kings Hill Parish Council is made up of 12 elected members and meets once a month in the Community Centre to discuss its operations and local issues. Councillors serve on a range of smaller committees which meet regularly to discuss issues in more detail and report back to the Full Council for ratification or final decision making.

■ Kings Hill Parish Council holds a long term lease with the developer Liberty Property Trust on both Kings Hill Sports Park and Kings Hill Community Centre. The Parish Council is responsible for the running of all operations and maintenance of the two facilities.

■ The Parish Council is also responsible for the running of the Allotments and the upkeep of the play area in Anson Avenue.

■ Kings Hill Parish Council is keen to develop the parish and is looking to residents for their views on how the Parish Council can work for them. This survey was instigated to canvas the opinion of residents and to help form the Parish Council’s strategy for the next five years and more.
