RESULTS BROCHURE AWARDING EXCELLENCE IN ASIAN BREWING

I’m delighted to announce the award winners of the 2021 Asia Beer Championship.

The annual competition is run by the Asia Brewers Network and celebrates

excellence in the rapidly developing Asian brewing scene.

This year ’s competition saw a good increase of 15% over 2020’s entry registrations.

It also saw 80 breweries from 15 countries compete across the increased

number of 28 beer and 4 cider style categories, very encouraging signs given the

difficulties many breweries have experienced over the past 18 months.

Congratulations to the winners from the Chairman’s Selections all the way to the

Champion Beer of Asia. Our team of judges confirmed once again the raising of the

quality bar with many of the Chairman’s Selection beers unlucky to miss out on

trophies – on any other day they could have been worthy medallists.

I don’t think anybody would deny that 2021 has been yet another unusual year. Like

everyone in the industry we have had to overcome challenges with the staging

of this year’s competition but we are immensely grateful for the support and

encouragement received from breweries around the region.

As countries now begin to open up their economies and relax restrictions on

social gatherings it ’s great to see breweries communicating their success in the

competition across their social media platforms. As business growth starts anew

it’s vital for breweries to be able to share their success and a recognized label of

quality with the beer drinking public.

Finally, on behalf of our organizing team I’d like to express

our gratitude for the support of the Singapore judges

who have helped keep the competition running these

past couple of years and our competition partners who

make the staging of the competition possible. We’re all

looking forward to welcoming international judges back

to Singapore next year and to being able to host a live,

in-person awards presentation at SEA Brew 2022.

is named after a mountain cat indigenous to Jordan and located in the scenic Fuhays Canyon outside the

capital Amman. The brewers pride themselves in not using chemical preservatives, additives or adjuncts in

their brews.

ARTMONSTER BREWERY (KOR)This multi-award winning independent brewery, founded in 2017, has their production facility on the outskirts

of Seoul and currently operates 9 taprooms around the South Korean capitol with concepts ranging from

Hong Kong Retro and US Art Deco to Korean Folk Home Pub and traditional British Tavern styles.

Currently under expansion, they aim to start exporting their beers in 2022.

ATON BREWERY (KOR)ATON Brewery was founded in mid 2019 and is located in the Hotel Mondrian Seoul Itaewon, South Korea.

They produce high quality, handcrafted beers from their 7 barrel brewhouse. The brewpub also features a

restaurant with gourmet foods set in a mid-century gothic interior.

DAEDO BREWING COMPANY (KOR)Daedo brewing company is a 1000 litre brewpub established in 2019 in Daegu, South Korea. The brewery is

located on the historical Kim Kwang Seok street in a building that used to produce traditional Korean rice

wine. Daedo are renowned for their wide variety of German, Belgian, and American style beers.

OPERA MASK, CHINA RESOURCES SNOW BEER (CHN)High-quality barley malt with a slow-roasted aroma process is used to give this beer a strong malt aroma

combined with a subtle, but long-lasting and pleasant Czech Saaz hop kick. The unique decoction mashing

gives the beer a rich and mellow body.

The judges verdict: “Drinks nicely – medium bodied, clean, rich and refreshing.”

FEARLESS TRADING CHAMPION PILSNER OF ASIA

BiA, HEART OF DARKNESS BREWERY (VIE)BiA was designed to be an accessible, affordable first step into the world of Craft. It ’s is a crisp clean

pilsner with a nice late addition twist of Citra to give little more character to this classic style.

The judges verdict: “A very nice beer, well balanced with a dry finish.”

The 2021 Asia Beer Championship was judged in Singapore on Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd October

2021 by a panel of professional brewers and BJCP certified beer judges. Results were announced at an

awards ceremony online on Thursday 28th October and streamed in taprooms, bars and front rooms

across Asia.

Beers were assessed according to the Beer Judge Certification Programme (BJCP) 2015 Beer Style

Guidelines & 2015 Cider Style Guidelines and Gold, Silver, Bronze and Chairman’s Choice accolades were

awarded by judges discussion.

The top 3 beers in each category were awarded Gold, Silver & Bronze certificates respectively.

The ‘Chairman’s Selection’ accolade was awarded to beers and ciders that reached a pre-determined

quality level, but were not awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze. Beers that received the Chairman’s Selection

award are assessed by the judges to be very good examples of their style, but not fortunate to be

selected for one of the 3 available awards (Gold, Silver & Bronze).

For the Champion Brewery of Asia competitions the highest placed 4 entries from each competing

brewery were considered, in order to enter breweries had to register at least 4 beers for the

competition. Breweries were categorized in accordance to the size of their main brew-vessel/Brewhouse:

Small: Less that 1000 litres • Medium: 1000 – 2900 litres • Large: 3000 litres or larger

The winners of the Champion Beers of Asia by beer category (ie. Champion Lager of Asia, Champion IPA

of Asia... etc...) entered a best of show taste-off to award the Champion Beer of Asia.

For the purpose of the Asia Beer Championship 2021, an Asian Brewery is defined as a brewery of any

size producing beer for commercial purposes (sale on site or for national/regional distribution) in the

following countries: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia,

China, Dubai, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan,

Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan,

Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor

Leste, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.

Beers brewed at rented brewing facilities (Gypsy/Contract Brew Beers/Collaborations) may also enter

the competition so long as the facilities used for production are within Asia.
