What is the Truth in 2 Peter 1:12?

Acts 4:12“There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

= Jesus Christ is the ONLY Savior

Acts 2:36“So let everyone… know for certain that God has made this Jesus… to be both Lord and Messiah.”

= Jesus Christ is our LORD

Why Peter is so eager to REMIND us?

• The word “remind” occurs 5x in 2 Peter

• 2 Peter 3:1,2 shows the intention of his letters:

“This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory. I want you to remember…” (2 Peter 3:1,2)

• Moses called the Israelites to REMEMBER 16x in Deuteronomy• David called Asaph and his

fellow Levites to REMEMBER (1 Chronicles 16:12,15)

• Nehemiah called the nobles, officials, and the laborers to REMEMBER (Nehemiah 4:14)

• Hebrews 6 calls us to REMEMBER

• James 1 calls us to REMEMBER

• Revelation 2 calls us to REMEMBER

We see this Reality in the disciples of Jesus:

In Matthew 14 – Jesus fed 5,000 men

But in Matthew 15… The disciples FORGET that!

Matthew 16:9“…Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of leftovers you picked up?”

“If you have once accepted Christianity, then some of its main [teachings must] be

deliberately held before your mind for some time every day. We have to be continually reminded of

what we believe. [No belief] will automatically remain alive in the mind.

It must be fed.”

We knew this is what Peter had in mind becausethe 2nd chapter of 2 Peter goes like this:

“But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them… Many will follow their evil teaching… And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered.” (2 Peter 2:1,2)

We are consistently warned of:• False Messiahs (Matthew
