2011 MAPPING OUT THE STRATEGY FOR RESTORING ATLANTIC WHITE CEDAR BOG IN SANDHILLS REGION OF AIKEN, SC
Group 3 AssignmentBackground: this pond supported an Atlantic White Cedar Bog. The bog was timbered and the adjacent land mined for kaolin in the 1950s. The “reclamation” was to fill the pond initially with a rubble dam. No action was taken on stockpiled sandy clay and it has remained so since the 50’s. Heavily used for off-road vehicles. Exceptional bog below the pond.
