Responsible Gold Mining CharterAsanko Gold is committed to mining responsibly and in a manner that leads to sustainable development and tangible benefits for all our stakeholders.

In practice, this means we are committed to ensuring our gold mining activities, from exploration, extraction, through to processing and waste management, are undertaken in conflict-free zones, do not involve any child labor or human rights abuses, respect the rights of our workforce, provide a safe working environment, minimize their impact on the environment and contribute to the economic and social development of our host countries and the project’s local communities.

Our Values, Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, Health and Safety and Environmental Charters guide our everyday actions and behavior, and we expect all our contractors to conduct their activities in a manner consistent with these principles and charters. We will not tolerate any unethical behavior by any stakeholder involved in our business.

We comply with host country laws and regulations in all aspects of our business and augment them, where necessary, with international guidelines and best practice management. In this regard, we draw on the following international standards to guide our management imperatives and approaches:

• Global Reporting Initiative

• Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)

• Equator Principles

• International Finance Corporate Performance Standards

• World Bank Environment, Health and Safety Guidelines

Our current gold mining operations are in Ghana, West Africa. Ghana is the oldest democracy in Sub-Saharan Africa and has a stable and functioning constitutional democracy and a free press. It is a respected mining jurisdiction. The mining tenure, royalty and tax laws are stable and well legislated. The country has a highly trained and skilled mining workforce at all levels of operation. Ghana has subscribed to both the EITI and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.

We actively support the Africa Mining Vision and have a policy of empowering Ghanaians through employment, procurement and investment in skills development. We report annually on our Corporate Social Responsibility activities, our environmental record, health and safety and our economic contribution to Ghana.
