The prolonged conflict with Hamas has created intense humanitarian needs in Israel. Through JUF’s Israel Emergency Campaign, here is how we are helping to address them: Respite for 40,000 Children Snapshot of Needs: More than 37,000 Israeli children who live within 25 miles of Gaza have spent their entire lives under fire. Now, tens of thousands more children must adjust to this reality. When a Hamas missile hit Haifa, it provided a stark reminder that virtually all Israelis are in rocket range. Our Impact: JUF’s partner agencies are providing at least one day of relief at safe summer camps and youth villages for children living under fire. Sample Costs: day of child’s respite programming in a secure location two-day child’s respite trip to Northern Israel week-long child’s respite camp in Northern Israel security guard for respite summer camp in a secure location academic enrichment class for children in a secure location Trauma Support for 12,000 Israelis Snapshot of Needs: What happens when you emerge from a community bomb shelter to find that your home is destroyed? Where do you stay that night? How do you begin rebuilding? For most people, the damage is not just physical. It is heartbreaking to consider the psychological impact on residents of Southern Israel, who have lived through 8,000 rocket attacks over the last 13 years. Now Israelis living in the center of the country also face this reality. Our Impact: JUF-funded programs provide trauma therapy to help Israelis cope with life under fire. Sample Costs: emergency grant for a family whose home was hit by rocket fire Hibuki Puppet Therapy Program for a kindergarten class trauma therapy for an individual with PTSD UPDATE $58 $135 $353 $441 $1,243 $1,200 $1,425 $1,540

Urgent Aid for 20,000 of Israel’s Most Vulnerable Snapshot of Needs:For many Israeli seniors and people with disabilities, the 15-second warning siren does not provide enough time to make it to a bomb shelter, so they must live in shelters 24/7. Others can no longer access the community and social service centers which ordinarily provide them food and comfort. For new immigrants, language barriers and adjusting to new surroundings make living through constant attacks even more traumatic.

Our Impact:JUF’s partners have deployed a host of caseworkers bringing food, medicine and comfort to the elderly and disabled in their homes, and offering specialized assistance for new Israelis.

Sample Costs: meal for a frail, shelter-bound senior care package of toys and supplies for a needy family activity kit for child or adult with disabilities portable toilet for a person with disabilities

Flexible Assistance for 10 Hardest-Hit CommunitiesSnapshot of Needs:Local Israeli municipalities are at the forefront of managing community services and responses to attacks. With this new outburst of violence, they are facing dramatically increased needs. Working together, we can strengthen their capacity to foster and enhance resilience within the communities most profoundly affected by the terror attacks.

Our Impact:JUF has a long history and deep connection with some of the communities and people who have borne the brunt of terror attacks through the Partnership Together program, which has paired Chicago with Kiryat Gat-Lachish-Shafir. JUF’s targeted local assistance helps bridge the gap between government aid and the intense needs, enhancing people’s resilience and quality of life.
