RESPIRATION
Respiration is defined as the transport of oxygen from the outside air to the cells within the body .
HUMAN BEINGS
Lungs are the respiratory organ of human beings.
Air enters through nostrils.
Alveoli is inside the lungs.
Alveoli increase the surface area of the lungs.
RESPIRATORY ORGANS IN ANIMALS
AMOEBA ( Cell membrane) EARTHWORM ( Skin) INSECTS ( Trachea) SPIDER ( Book lungs) FISH ( Gills) FROG (Moist skin, buccal-
cavity,lungs) HUMAN BEING (Lungs)
AMOEBA
Cell membrane act as the respiratory organ .
Oxygen enters and carbon dioxide leaves out through this membrane
EARTHWORM
Skin is the respiratory organ of earthworm.
Oxygen from the atmosphere diffuses into the blood.
Carbon dioxide from the blood diffuses out to the atmosphere through the moist skin.
INSECTS
Trachea is the respiratory organ of the insects.
It is open to the outside through opening called spiracles.
Air enters through this openings.
Oxygen diffuses directly into the tissue.
SPIDER
Book lungs are the respiratory organ of the spider .
They are seen towards the posterior end of the abdominal cavity.
Book lungs is filled with body fluid.
Oxygen dissolves into the body fluid.
Carbon dioxide is expelled from the body fluid.
FISH
Gills are the respiratory organ of the fish.
Oxygen from the water flows through gills.
Oxygen diffuses into the blood and carbon dioxide diffuses into the water through gills.
FROG
Frog can breathe both in air and water.
Moist skin, buccal cavity and lungs are the respiratory organs of frog.
Tadpoles, larvae of frog breathe through gills.
