At 3M we are full of bright ideas. Glass materials have been used

for decades to make traffic signs reflective. Scientists have found

another bright spot for them in the oil and gas industry. 3M scientists

sought out ways to modify the manufacturing process of these

glass materials and developed a uniform hollow glass sphere 25

times lower in weight than the original solid glass bead. Their light

weight and insulation properties are able to survive most harsh

environments and unforgiving conditions encountered in deepwater

operations – fulfilling an industry need to search for oil and gas

farther offshore and into deeper and more hostile environments. 3M

brings creativity and science together to link one idea to the next in

order to provide solutions to the toughest challenges.

It all began with a phone call for a very large order of electrical

tape…when it was discovered that the customer was using the tape

to wrap pipeline field joints. This idea set 3M on a journey to develop

a coating specifically made to protect pipes. We took our initial

knowledge of molding powders used in the electronics industry and

evolved it into a new idea, fusion bonded epoxy coating for pipelines.

Of course we did not stop there; our coating formulations have gone

through vast improvements and developments to tailor the products

to your needs.

3M™ Scotchkote™ Spray System HSS-450A system for applying liquid corrosion coatings designed to help

improve application efficiency, reduce waste and coat in the most

difficult areas. This system works especially well for coating

girthwelds, short segment repair and custom field applications. This

product is also used for rehabilitation of aging pipelines.

3M™ Scotchkote™ Internal Flow CoatingsDesigned to help protect the internal surfaces of (steel) pipe against

corrosion as well as help provide flow enhancement. In addition,

these coatings help provide excellent resistance to

CO2, H2S, CH4, petroleum distillates and brines

at elevated temperatures and pressures.

3M™ Scotchkote™ External CoatingsThe external surfaces of (steel) pipe can be protected from the harsh effects

of corrosion using 3M Scotchkote external pipe coatings. The product range

includes both liquid and powder coatings and a wide variety of other field

applications where corrosion protection of metal; including coating tanks,

valves, piping and special fabrications are needed.

3M™ Scotchkote™ PNC Field Joint CoatingsNovel one-part, heat curable, thermosetting polypropylene-

epoxy hybrid film coating. Designed to help provide superior

corrosion protection as a field joint coating for three-layer

polypropylene pipes.

3M™ Dynatel™ LocatorsThe full line of 3M Dynatel locators helps quickly and accurately identify the

path and estimated depth of underground utilities. 3M ID markers provide a

long-lasting method of marking underground assets and may be programmed to

include customer-specific information such as facility data, material type and size,

placement date and other important details for positive identification.

3M™ Welding3M™ Welding is a global leader in providing welding safety equipment. The

new 3M™ Speedglas™ 9100 FX combines ADF technology with an innovative

wide-view grinding visor that offers a greater field of view in all directions,

while a smooth flip up pivot mechanism assures effortless transition from

welding to grinding modes. The 9100 FX-Air readily connects to the 3M™

Adflo™ PAPR or the 3M™ Fresh-air III Supplied Air Respirators for an all-in-

one solution for more comfort, protection and flexibility.

3M™ Dyneon™ Seal & Gasket MaterialsExcellent resistance to heat and aggressive chemicals,

3M™ Scotchrap™ 50, 51 TapesScotchrap 50 and 51 Tapes are tough, polyvinyl chloride

based tapes with special high tack advesives formulated

to resist corrosion of metal piping systems above and

below ground, fittings and joints on all mill-coated pipe

and electrical conduit systems.

A simple question, “What if?” spurs curiosity to try new approaches.

Filtration technology began as respirators, worn to help protect

workers from airborne contaminants. Working with customers, we
