INTRODUCTION WHS A management guide covers content for core competencies plus specifically selected electives for Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety and the Diploma of Work Health and Safety from the BSB07 (Business Services Training Package). The content of the textbook is designed to reflect the requirements of nationally accredited courses and industry and vocational requirements.

At the time of publication, WHS courses were being nationally updated to reflect national harmonisation of WHS laws. The text book, VET instructor manual and powerpoint presentations have been written to reflect the new legislative and soon to be endorsed national course changes.

Specifically, the new WHS courses (due for National endorsement in 2012) are as follows: Certificate III in Work Health and Safety Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety Diploma of Work Health and Safety

CERTIFICATE IV IN WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the skills necessary for a WHS officer who works under the supervision of a WHS Coordinator or WHS Manager. At this level, it is expected that the individual may have limited responsibility for the leadership and guidance of others in the performance of WHS functions. Entry requirements There are no entry requirements for this qualification Pathways Candidates may enter the qualification through a number of entry points including:

Completion of Certificate III in Work Health and Safety or other relevant Certificate III qualification

OR With extensive vocational experience in WHS roles.

Proposed Course Structure Packaging rules for the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. Total number of units = 10 5 core units + 3 Group A elective units + 2 Group A/B elective units The 2 Group A/B elective units may be selected from Group A or Group B units shown below, or any currently endorsed training package or accredited course at the same qualification level. DIPLOMA OF WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY This qualification reflects the role of individuals required to coordinate and maintain the WHS programs of an organisation. At this level, individuals would possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised technical or managerial competencies to plan, conduct and evaluate their own work and the work of others with WHS responsibilities. Entry requirements There are no entry requirements for this qualification. Pathways Completion of a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or other relevant qualification(s) OR With extensive experience in providing WHS guidance to others but without formal qualifications. Proposed Course Structure Packaging rules Total number of units = 9 5 core units +2 Group A elective units + 2 Group A/B elective units The two Group A/B elective units may be selected from the Group A or Group B units shown on the following page or any currently endorsed training package or accredited course at the same qualification level. DISCLAIMER

While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this information, at the time of writing this Instructor Manual, the new course structures for Certificate IV of Work Health and Safety and the Diploma of Work Health and Safety had yet to be endorsed. Endorsement of these courses is expected in early 2012. The Advanced Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety (BSB60607) from the BSB07 training package is currently under review.
