How To Calculate a GPAYour grade point average (GPA) is calculated by dividing the total amount of quality points earned by the number

of quality hours earned.

This is how to figure your GPA:Use the online GPA Calculator found at www.atu.edu/advising/gpa_calculator.htm or follow the steps below and refer to the table.

1. Grades have the following point value:

A = 4 quality points B = 3 quality points C = 2 quality points D = 1 quality point F = 0 quality points

2. Courses are assigned a specific number of credit hours (indicated by the last digit in the course number):

SPH 2003 = 3 credit hours PE 1121 = 1 credit hour BIOL 3054 = 4 credit hours

3. Multiply the point value of the grade you earn by the number of credit hours of the course. The answer will give you the total number of quality points.

4. Divide the total number of quality points by the total quality hours earned to obtain your GPA.

Tech ID ExplainedYour Tech ID is a resource used by campus personnel to verify your information, and may also act as a campus debit card. Your Tech ID is essential to your success here at Tech. Use your Tech ID for:

Arkansas Course Transfer System

Act 472 NotificationThe Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) contains information about the transferability of courses within Arkansas public colleges and universities. Students are guaranteed the transfer of applicable credits and equitable treatment in the application of credits for admissions and degree requirements.

Students may complete specified General Education courses anywhere in the public system as well as many courses in the degree/major that have been pre-identified for transfer. This system is designed to assist in planning from the high school level through the adult workforce.

OneTech EmailAs an Arkansas Tech student, your OneTech account is now your ultimate connection to your academic and social life. Through OneTech, you will access your Tech email account, class schedule, Blackboard account, transcript, billing invoice, campus event announcements, and much more. For security reasons, once you are enrolled in classes, faculty and staff may only respond to emails sent from your Tech email. Please begin checking your OneTech regularly.

Please keep/use these instructions to log into your OneTech account to view important email messages:

1. From any browser, go to onetech.atu.edu. Enter your OneTech ID in the User Name box. (Your OneTech ID is usually your first initial and last name, sometimes followed by a number. It is not your T#. Example: jsmith25.) In the Password box, enter your birthday followed by Atu. (The format of your birthday is mmddyy. Example: 071594Atu.) Click Login. Your OneTech ID and Password are printed in your admission acceptance and registration invitation letters. Your password expires every 90 days. If you do not know your OneTech ID or Password, contact the Campus Support Center at (479) 968-0646.

2. Once you successfully log-in, you will be directed to the Welcome Page. The Welcome Page is where you check your email, look up faculty, staff, or departments in the directory, or see campus announcements.

3. Now click the Student tab. After your registration appointment, you will be able to view your schedule by clicking Student Detail Schedule in the "Registration Tools" box on the right.

4. Select the appropriate term, then click the Submit button.

5. You can now print the schedule from your browser.

6. A drop-down menu will provide a link to all the other features of your Student tab, including your transcript, Week at a Glance, and much more.

Blackboard EnrollmentBlackboard+learn is Tech’s e-learning platform. Most web (online) courses are conducted through Blackboard, and many on-campus classes will also utilize Blackboard. Instructors use Blackboard to post and distribute course content such as syllabuses and handouts, to communicate with students via announcements and email messages, to assess student learning through quizzes and online assignments, and much more.

Links to Blackboard are found on the Tech website homepage at www.atu.edu or under the Student Tab of your OneTech account, and at bblearn.atu.edu.

Log into Blackboard using the same username and password assigned to you for your OneTech account. Classes utilizing Blackboard will automatically appear in your Blackboard account on the first day of each semester. Your Blackboard account also provides helpful how-to instructions and tutorials you may want to review before classes begin at http://tinyurl.com/lzvmbed.

Start your college career with GO BOLD New Student Orientation. There are two sessions for you to attend on either Monday, January 12 or Tuesday, January 13 for an informative lunch to help ease your transition into college. Your academic advisor will help you choose the best session to attend based on your schedule.

Lunch will be provided as you learn valuable information about available resources on campus, such as dining options, academic aids, and involvement opportunities, as well as the chance to connect with other incoming students. You will also be able to get some useful tips from our Orientation Leaders who will be there to talk about their college experiences and answer any questions. We hope to see you at GO BOLD New Student Orientation!

On-Campus Residency RequirementsSingle students between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty-one (21), and with fewer than sixty (60) earned credit hours of college work, are required to live on campus, as space permits, in University owned housing facilities. These students are required to purchase a meal plan unless living in the University Commons Apartments or Vista Place. Exemptions to the on-campus residency requirement include: students living with immediate family (mother, father, sister, or brother) within a thirty (30) mile radius of the Russellville, Arkansas campus, married students, or students with dependent children. Students under the age of eighteen (18) from August 23, 2014 and January 1, 2015 must sign the Arkansas Tech University Waiver and Release of Liability for a Minor Living on Campus prior to being allowed to sign a housing contract and live in on-campus housing. The Arkansas Tech University Waiver and Release of Liability for a Minor Living on Campus is available through the Office of Residence Life at www.atu.edu/reslife/. Students seventeen (17) or under on January 1, 2015 are not permitted to live in University owned housing facilities.

On-Campus EligibilityTo be eligible to be a resident in a University Residence Hall, a person must purchase a meal plan (for residents of Vista Place and University Commons Apartments, a meal plan is optional) and be enrolled at the University campus in a minimum of nine (9) undergraduate semester hours each semester or a minimum of six (6) graduate hours each semester. The University reserves the right not to contract with persons who are currently violating or have previously violated the terms and conditions of a housing contract or other University rules or regulations, or who have a past due balance with the University.

To be eligible to be a Resident in the University Commons Apartments, a person must be enrolled at the University campus in a minimum of nine (9) undergraduate semester hours each semester or a minimum of six (6) graduate hours each semester. Initial preference for apartment assignments will be given to those students who have earned a minimum of thirty (30) credit hours of college work and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average. The University reserves the right not to contract with persons who are currently violating or have previously violated the terms and conditions of a housing contract or other University rules or regulations, or who have a past due balance with the University. The maximum number of persons occupying an apartment shall be no more than four (4) persons in a four-bedroom apartment, and no more than two (2) persons in a two-bedroom apartment. No other occupants are permitted.

Housing ApplicationTo begin the housing process, you must first apply for housing. Please visit www.atu.edu/reslife/ and click “Apply For Housing.”

A $25.00 non-refundable application fee is required to complete the housing application. Once the application fee is paid, you will be permitted to select your residence hall room and sign your housing contract online.

Housing ContractOnce you have completed your housing application and paid your $25.00 application fee, you are eligible to sign your housing contract. The Housing Contract explains the policies and expectations of living on campus at Arkansas Tech University. Please be sure to thoroughly read through this contract because it is legally binding for the entire 2014-2015 academic year. You will receive an email from housing@atu.edu explaining how and when you can log-in and sign your housing contract, pay your $50.00 pre-payment, choose your room, and select your meal plan. The $50.00 pre-payment will be paid online with a credit or debit card. This pre-payment will be applied to your housing charges for the spring 2015 semester. We feel that all of our housing options offer great opportunities for our students. However, please be aware that the housing preferences you listed on your application do not guarantee you a room in one of those facilities.

CEON Campus Emergency and OutreachNotification System The Campus Emergency and Outreach Notification System (CEON) provides efficient and timely notifications to the campus community.

Emergency notification is a critical security component for Tech students, faculty, and staff. Adding your notification number and/or cell (SMS) number allows campus officials to effectively notify you in case of an emergency.

The notification number you provide will also be used to contact you with important campus or school related information such as campus closings, special events, and other important communications. You choose the preferred method of outreach communication, ranging from email, phone voice notification, or text messaging.

The Blackboard Course Management System is an additional feature that allows text or voice notification related to specific communication regarding your academic courses.

Students register for CEON by providing a text enabled cell phone number via the OneTech Portal. From the Student tab, find the Personal Information menu and click on Campus Emergency and Outreach Notification Numbers. Update your notification number if needed and click Outreach. Select textable to receive text message notifications, or text the word “TECH” to 50618. Leave the subject line blank. After the text message is sent, you will receive a confirmation message.

Emergency Procedure GuideWhat is an emergency? An emergency is any immediate threat to life and/or property that requires response from police, fire, or emergency medical services. What should you do in the event of an emergency? To answer this question, Arkansas Tech University has created and distributed an Emergency Procedure Guide that is available to all faculty, staff, and students. A copy of the guide is provided in every classroom, residence hall room, departmental office, and meeting space on campus. This guide is designed to be easy to follow with special tabs

for quick access to information needed in emergency situations. In addition to finding the guide throughout campus, it is available online at www.atu.edu/emergency/index.php.

Emergency Call Stations Call stations are located throughout campus. The red call stations with blue lights that illuminate at night are easily located and accessible campus-wide. Call stations provide instant communication with emergency services personnel.

Public Safety WebsitePlease visit the Department of Public Safety website at www.atu.edu/psafe to locate valuable safety information, the Annual School Report, information on emergency preparedness, and services provided to our campus community.

ParkingTo park a vehicle on the Arkansas Tech University campus, you are required to have a parking permit. Parking permits, which are $30, may now be purchased online through your OneTech account and will be mailed to the address of your choice.

To purchase a 2014-15 Tech parking permit for the main campus, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your OneTech account at onetech.atu.edu

2. Go to the “Personal Information” channel located on the Welcome page.

3. Click on the link “Purchase Parking Permit,” and follow the instructions to purchase a permit.

You will need to know the make and model of your vehicle, as well as license plate number, in order to complete the process. Students may purchase permits with a credit card, debit card, or post the charge to their student account. Once the parking permit is purchased, click on “Parking Home” to print a temporary parking permit to be displayed on your vehicle dashboard until the permanent permit arrives in 7-10 business days. TextbooksFind Your BooksLog-in to your OneTech account and click on the Student Tab at the top of the page. In the Registration Tools menu, click on Look Up Classes. Select the desired term (example: Fall 2014). Select the Subject of your first course (example: Speech). Select the Course Number (example: SPH 2003, Public Speaking). Find the Section Number of your course (example: SPH 2003 007), then click on the CRN Number of your course (example: 70112). Next, click on "View Textbook Information." Repeat to look up your remaining courses. As you look at the listings, notice whether the textbook is a "Required" or "Optional" text. All "Required" books should be purchased as soon as possible.

Doc Bryan Tutoring CenterLet the specialized tutors at the Doc Bryan Tutoring Center help raise your grades free of charge - that’s what they’re trained to do. In Doc Bryan 247, you can find tutors for almost any subject, especially for those courses that might challenge you the most, like College Algebra, English Composition, and American History.

The Tutoring Center accepts walk-in appointments from 5pm-9pm, Monday - Thursday during the fall and spring semesters.

Tutors from various departments also meet in Doc Bryan 247 throughout the week. You may find the updated schedule by clicking “Tutoring Services” in the Tech A-Z online, by stopping by Student Services in Doc Bryan 233, or by contacting Elishia Heiden, Assistant Dean for Student Success, at eheiden@atu.edu or (479) 968-0249.
