I was hired by Looking Los Angeles to photograph various locations and people in the areas that surround the corporate facility now named The Reserve. The inspiration was Google\\’s headquarters in Mountain View. This book is designed to show the versatility and beauty of this facility, progressive philosophy and it\\’s vital location.

Google commissioned HLW to design its new campus in venice, california. the campus is located steps from venice’s eclectic “ocean Front Walk”, with the famous Frank Gehry Binocular building at its heart. this landmark building ties into an immediately adjacent warehouse building with double-height space and a mezzanine. the third building in the campus layout is a two-story, 10,000 square foot red brick building full of character that was built in the 1920’s. HLW collaborated with Google to arrive at a design scheme that fit perfectly within the context of its surrounding beach community.

red Bull HeadquartersLocation: santa monicasize: 100,000 sF

the red Bull Headquarters is an extensive renovation of an existing 100,000 square foot industrial building. the project is organized around a major sculptural element, ‘the wave’. the Wave is an expression and synthesis of both the client’s corporate identity with southern california surf and skate culture. the Wave is a continuous form, 40’-0” wide by 420’-0” long which emerges at the entry courtyard and terminates at the other end of the building. the wave swells to create two sheltered zones of greater privacy and acoustic intimacy.

the last remanning wetland in Los Angeles county, the Ballona creek Wetland lies between marina del rey and the Westchester bluffs. this area, 800 to 1000 acres, currently known as playa vista, is made up of salt marsh, freshwater marsh and dunes. it is considered Los Angeles largest wetland ecosystem. Although degraded over the years, it still functions as a normal natural wetland - providing vital filtration of toxic wastes and pollutants from stormwater runoff before they reach the santa monica Bay.
