The definition of the genre rap is that rap music is a style of popular music, it was developed by disc jockeys and urban black in the late 1970’s, in which an recurring beat pattern provides the background and rapid, slangy and often boastful rhyming by a vocalist.

For a rap magazine cover, the audience would expect to see a very well known rapper on the front cover, gold jewelry, cigarettes, stacks of money, designer clothes. The angle of the main image would either be close up or low angle shot to show that they are big, powerful and strong, have an angry facial expression to make them look intimidating and powerful. Artists will be in front of the magazine masthead to show that they are powerful and it makes them stand out. Sometimes feature females on front covers but mostly male, has a stereotypical view of women as being sex objects.

AUDIENCE AND STEREOTYPES

The convections of a rap magazine are that the model in the magazine is usually in front of the title of the magazine. This is showing that the model is more important and dominant than the magazine. Also, they usually use a plain background so you will focus more on the model as the main image. Because if there was a detailed background the readers attention may become more divided onto looking at the background more making the model look less powerful.

The layout of rap magazines are normally simple. With a title, cover lines, and a title. The main image is placed at the center of the magazine with the cover lines around the model.

CONVECTIONS

For my production to be successful I will have to include a big main image of a well known artist to attract more readers. Also, I will use a plain background so the model has more power. The model will be in front of the title of the magazine so the model is ‘seen’ as being more important than the title of the magazine.

I will use cover lines around the model and overall make the magazine look simple with just one main image.
