Researching genre

Genre A genre is a kind of category, or sort, esp of literary or artistic work. Genres are formed by conventions that change over time as new genres are invented and the use of old ones are discontinued. A music genre is a conventional category that identifies pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. Music can be divided into different genres in many different ways. The artistic nature of music means that these classifications are often subjective and controversial, and some genres may overlap. Some examples of popular music genres are; Blues, country, folk, hip hop, jazz, pop, rock, SKA and indie.

Chosen genre

The genre I have chosen to focus my music magazine cover and contents page on is Britpop/alternative rock. Britpop is a subset of Alternative Rock that developed in the United Kingdom during the first years of the 1990s. The genre was characterised by bands influenced by British guitar pop music of the 1960s and 1970s and indie rock from the 1980s, notably The Smiths.

Red, black and white colour scheme

RepertoireThe colour scheme for this genre consists of dark colours and shades like black and grey and also some lighter colours, such as; red and white.
