For my primary research I played the game on a super Nintendo, the original console the game was created for, I did this too get a feel of what the game was like to play and too play through the story for myself.

• Asked others their opinion on the game

Aside from just playing the game myself I also asked a wide variety of people of different ages and interest levels in games what they thought of it and how they felt it had aged compared to its more modern equivalent.

I went online and read some reviews of the game from different websites and authors, I also watched people play and give their opinion on the game through YouTube by doing this I was able to gather information about what people thought of the game outside of the small group of people I surveyed.

Through YouTube and Twitch streaming I watched people play the Legend of Zelda a Link to the past and give their review of it.

• Read what people thought of the game from websites

Other than reviews, I searched forums and other game message boards to find out what others thought of the game, not just the journalists that write reviews for websites.

I used Quantitative research in my findings by using a website to create an online survey and then passing this survey to friends and family to complete, the questions were designed to get a wide range of answers about the game and gaming in general I then gathered these results and put them into my classic game report.

GRAND THEFT AUTO V

Primary Research

• Playing the game

As Grand Theft Auto V is one of my favourite game releases in recent memory I had already played and completed the story several times when I started my research document due to this I had an in-depth understanding of the story, gameplay and the games mechanics this first hand experience of the game was a vital part of writing my review and helped me to form my own opinion.

• Showing the game to other people

I also showed the game to my family members and asked what they thought of it, due to the game getting some bad press for being too violent, and asked them their opinions.

Secondary Research

• Reading reviews

Due to Grand Theft Autos huge following and the fact that it is a much newer game than Zelda, secondary research was easier for this game I read reviews of the game, positive and negative and looked at some of the problems people have with the game such as feeling that it is too violent.

• YouTube & Twitch

I also watched multiple people play this game and looked at how they went about choosing how to complete various missions, by doing this I gained a deeper understanding of different methods to do things in the game and different peoples opinions on the game.

As with Zelda I also completed a self-made survey and complied the results, which can be found on my Unit 2 review of Grand Theft Auto V

RESEARCH TECHNIQUES

Primary Research

• I Felt that primary research was the most helpful for reviewing the games because playing it for me is the best way to understand the game and know for yourself how it feels to play rather than just read about it, I think that primary research massively helped my reviews.

Secondary Research

• The use of secondary research in my reviews was helpful but not as much as my primary and quantitative research, this is because a lot of the information you find through secondary research cant be trusted due to it being wrote and researched by someone else.

Quantitative Research

Although I don’t think that my quantitative research added much to the actual review I think that it was interesting to see a wide range of peoples opinions on the games.
