Abstract Ethyl acetate, acetone, methanol and aqueous extracts of the bark Moringa oleifera were screened against the enteric pathogens isolates namely, Esherichia coli, Shigella sonnei

and Salmonella enteritis. All the extracts other than aqueous extract showed

antimicrobial activity with the methanol extract having the percentage of activity. Preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of and tannins in the

methanol extract.

Abstract The present study was undertaken to determine inhibitory activity of leaf and flower

extracts of Lablab purpureus against clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus. Agar

well diffusion assay was performed to determine antibacterial activity. Among extracts, the flower extract has shown marked inhibition of S. aureus isolates. It can be concluded

that the leaf and flower extracts possess inhibitory components. The bioactive components present in the plant are to be separated and subjected for antibacterial

activity.

Abstract A single T > C change at the 5’ promoter region of the CYP17 and CYP19 genes are reported to be associated with increased risk of breast cancer. This study evaluates the

influence of genetic polymorphism of CYP17 and CYP19 on breast cancer susceptibility.

Ten patients with histopathologically confirmed breast cancer and 30 age-matched controls were included in study. A polymerase chain reaction – single nucleotide

polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) method was used to detect the polymorphism.

Keywords: CYP17 and CYP 19 subunits of Cytochrome 450, SSCP single strand

conformational polymorphism

Pharmacology of Herbal Drugs: Ayurvedic Approach

Nishant Shukla* PAMCH, Morjand Khari, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, India

Abstract Herbal drugs are gaining acceptance globally. The present approach of studying them is

based on modern parameters. Most of these drugs are described in ancient Ayurvedic treatises and so Ayurvedic method of studying pharmacology is necessary. It is also nec-

essary to study pharmacokinetics as per Ayurveda only. The study of the herbs is to be done in following steps. The first step is to study fivefold properties of herb, i.e., Rasa

(taste), Guna (properties), Virya (potency), Vipak and Prabhava (specific action). The

second step is to know pharmacological effects as per time and route of administration. The third step is to know the role of vehicle and effect of combination of the drug. Details

will be presented in full paper.
