What have I learnt from my research into double page spreads? How will this effect my own double page spread?

• One thing I have learnt is that magazines use three similar colours on their double page spread text. In my research the most common three was red, white and black. This means that on my double page spread, my text colours will be red, white and black to make my double page spread seem more professional and more real.

• Another thing I have learnt is that there is a mix of shot types on double page spreads. These range from medium close up to long shot. This will effect my double page spread because when I am doing the photo shoot for my double page spread, I will take a range of shot lengths from long to medium close up to try and get the best and most professional photo.

• I have also learnt that magazines can advertise their other media products on the double page spread. For example ‘The Source’ advertised website, facebook and twitter. This means on my magazine that I should advertise other media forms to make my double page spread appear more real, more professional and more synergised.

What have I learnt from my research into double page spreads? How will this effect my own double page spread?

• I learnt that double page spreads have a variety of different layouts and structures, but all have slight things in common. For example, they each have their features and exclusives laid out into different sections. This means that in my double page spreads I should have all the articles laid out into sections so that my double page spread matches the conventions given here.

• Another thing that double page spreads have in common is that the text is laid out in columns. This means that in my double page spreads, I should lay my text out in columns around the photo’s there are on the double page spread to give the impression that my double page spread was professionally made and would look like a normal double page spread in a magazine.

• Things such as article names and page numbers are bolded so that they are instantly noticeable and stand out more. Also sometimes, the page number is a different colour so that it stands out even more. This means that I should make my page numbers and header titles bold, with page numbers a different colour so that they stand out more and are instantly recognised.

What have I learnt from my research into double page spreads? How will this effect my own double page spread?

• The text in double page spreads is usually in columns with paragraphs opening up with a bigger letter that is bold and instantly stands out. This means that my double page spread should use text in columns so that it’s easier to read with a big bold letter at the start of each paragraph to symbolise that it is a new paragraph.

• Usually one of the two pages in a double page spread is a big photograph of the artist that the article is about. This means that one of the sides in my double page spread should be a full page photo of the artist in question to make it seem more professional. The photo is usually a medium close up so I should do that shot type to make my magazine seem more real.

What have I learnt from my research into double page spreads? How will this effect my own double page spread?

• There is usually a quote or something that introduces the readers to the article that makes them want to read the article. I should do this because it will entice my audience to not only read the article but would also make my double page spread feel more like part of a real magazine and therefore seem more professional which is what I am aiming for in this coursework.

What have I learnt from my audience research and how will this affect my coursework.

• One thing I have learnt is that my audience are mostly willing to spend a minimum of £2 but a maximum of £3 on a music magazine. This means that the best price for my magazine would be £2.50 so that I can keep the majority of the potential audience happy and therefore would increase sales of the magazine.

What have I learnt from my audience research and how will this affect my coursework.

• Another thing I have learnt is that most of my audience want to read about Chart news, album reviews and backstage information. This means that articles in my magazine listed on the contents pages should cover these areas as this is what my potential audience wants to read about in the magazine.

What have I learnt from my audience research and how will this affect my coursework.

• Something else I have learnt about my audience is that they want to buy a magazine to mainly be entertained. This tells me that my magazine should be fun and entertain my audience because my audience wants to be entertained and since the magazine is aimed at them it should match their needs as an audience.
